    Ship Time = Local Time

Don't go to anywhere except your printed eDocs.

    Book your excursions accordingly.

That’s the problem. I booked according to what the edocs say. One activity on our tour requires us to be there before 11am. I emailed the tour operator to make sure it could happen and he told me it will really be 9am local time when we port.

I took this cruise a couple of months ago, and the line to get off the ship went the length of the ship, but once they opened the departing area, it moved really fast.

Thanks!  Do you have any suggestion of when to get in line if we need to be off by 10:15am?

Assuming that you do not have to tender, getting off in  Roatan is easy as can be. Without rushing being off within 15 minutes of being told the  gangways are open is the norm. Just don't stop for the photographers, walk around  them and anyone who stops for them.

Thank you!  I read a review that said getting off was a nightmare, but hopefully that is because it was a tender.

Breakaway and July means crowds for sure. I would wait an hour or so before trying to exit the ship. If you have a tour planned make sure you don't book it early and leave plenty of time to get back to the ship. We love Roatan, some fun things to do with kids and snorkeling is awesome.

Thank you! But I  just now read that we have to be at the place to see sloths (my daughter’s dream) before 11am! So now i guess that means we have to line up early instead of later.

  5. I am sailing on the Breakway in July and the time in port for Roatan starts at 10am.  Is it likely to be a big backup getting off the ship? Any tips on getting off the ship without a long wait time as we will have young children with us?  Do we wait until later?  How much later?  Or is it not that bad? We have a private tour and can start any time we want.  Thanks!

Haven’t really been looking for the less crowded spots, but Bliss lounge hasn’t been very busy when we’ve walked by. Also, the casino bar seems like a good drive - by to get a drink. Wouldn’t want to sit there in the smoke however.

I recommend finding Milan in Shakers.

    Thanks for the info!

  7. Great reviews and thanks for this thread!  It is fun to follow along and appreciate all the information.

Any favorite spots for drinks in the evenings that are less crowded?

Also, I know you aren't traveling with little kids but have been trying to find out of the kids club reaches capacity often during school break sailings and have to turn kids away.  If you hear any rumblings about this from fellow passengers I would love to know.

    Have a great trip!

  8. We are planning to take the NCL Breakaway from Miami the week of July 4th for a 7 night Caribbean itinerary.  I have read some reviews of holiday sailings at Thanksgiving that said Splash Academy was at capacity every night and kids could not get in.

My kids love Splash Academy and I am wondering if this might be a problem on our cruise since it is a holiday week?  We have been on the Getaway at full capacity, but it was a Baltic cruise so fewer kids.  Should I be worried this time of year?  Or is this an issue that has been fixed on NCL ships?

    Any advice is appreciated!

I did the Getaway last year same itinerary.  Only bad part was getting off ship at ports because 4000 people out one door.  Funny enough I am doing the Breakaway this year for 4th of July.  It was a fun cruise.

Thanks so much! Maybe I’ll see you onboard!  Any sense of if it was full capacity and/or info on whether kids club turned kids away?

  10. We are considering sailing on the Breakaway the week of July 4th from Miami to the Western Caribbean.

Has anyone been on a July 4th sailing? Is this a week that the ship is likely to be at capacity like ships can be over Christmas or Thanksgiving or Spring Break?  Might we expect the Splash Academy to be at capacity and kids turned away at times?  I am nervous it will be unbearably crowded to cruise that week.

I realize it is a holiday week, but also have heard people stick to local beaches at that time of year.  We were on the Getaway a couple of years ago in the summer for a Baltic cruise and loved it, but I imagine that cruise had far fewer children so even though it was close to full it was a different experience.

    Thanks!

  11. We will be sailing this year with our 8 year old daughter and soon to be 12 year old tween son.  On NCL, our son would be in the Dolphins ages 10-12, but on RCI and Carnival he would be in the 12-14 teen program.  We'd prefer to sail on NCL, but I am considering that he might be happier being in the teen program on RCI or Carnival, as opposed to the 10-12 year olds on NCL and that could make a difference for our trip since my husband and I would love to have a few nights to ourselves and have the kids have fun.  Does anyone have any input as to sailing at this in-between age with NCL Dolphins vs. the other teen programs?  Thank you!

  12. Just off the Getaway and there was not a shuttle. We walked into town which took 15-20 minutes by my memory. We took an Uber from the upper town back to the ship because my children were tired and it only cost 3.50 euros so if walking is an issue try uber

  13. I went into both the Aspire and Aviator lounges. Both had limited food selections of breads, cold cuts, fruit, and cheese. The Aviator lounge was much more crowded so we settled in at the Aspire lounge which was quiet and a nice place the spend the 1.5 hours we had to kill.
