  1. ,,,I just stumbled upon this thread today. We are planning to cruise on the Anthem this March.

Last year DH and I were on the infamous Feb 6 sailing that ran into the storm. Our vacation was cut short (disappointment) but RCL reimbursed us for the cruise and expenses. We thought that was fair.

About a week later, my husband was contacted by AMEX about an attempted fraudulent charge in NYC (we live in NJ).

Since we never went to a port during the cruise and we had no need to use our AMEX on the ship itself, we assumed my husband's AMEX was "copied" by one of those credit card reading machines when we were embarking/disembarking at the Cape Liberty Cruise Port.

We have an ID monitoring system on ourselves and purchased some RFID protective sleeves for the documentation we use on vacation.

After reading this thread, I'm wondering if there is chicanery on the Anthem and it's touted "advanced technology". Could it be their original "advanced technology" crashed and burned so badly in the beginning it exposed a weakness in their system?

Perhaps RCL doesn't have an effective "firewall" to protect its systems.

The unscrupulous find ways to work the system to their advantage.

  2. Today, Feb 18, DH received a text from Citi Bank stating that he had just withdrawn $330 at a NYC location. Fortunately, he read the text and immediately contacted the bank to cancel any transactions.

Unknowingly, my husband's Wells Fargo debit card was "skimmed" at Cape Liberty sometime between Feb 6 and Feb 10 2016.

Wells Fargo has contacted our other credit cards to warn them of possible unauthorized activity. According to Wells Fargo this has occurred several times at Cape Liberty.

I'm sure that Cape Liberty is not the only public space that has this kind of illegal activity.

Just a word to the wise, secure your personal information and electronic cards.

The above link is from NJ.com containing a "terrifying" time lapse video of the Feb 6 sail. Fair warning there is an ad. Just about 50 seconds into the video, the person in that cabin steps onto the balcony with a cigarette. That person must have been "terrified".

  4. If someone were to use your card, you would find out quick as it wouldn't be there when you arrived at your cabin. Ship security could easily track down the thief as there are cameras everywhere and every transaction is time and date stamped. Just pull the video from that venue and QUANTUM probably has facial recognition software that the photo shop uses. I think these instances will be very rare.

I'm pretty certain any card can be inserted into the slot in the cabin. Generally the card is just pushing a switch at the bottom of the slot to activate the electricity.

Forgive me for being the skeptic. "...Seapass will be waiting me OUTSIDE my cabin" just waiting for me? Yes, there are (probable) security systems in place, but there is always that "one" instance to mess things up. Since this is so high tech why do I have to actually print my boarding pass? What's wrong with my smart phone?

  5. Wishing everyone a safe journey home. When you have the opportunity, check all the posts full of conjecture on other threads.

We will be on the EOS in about 2 weeks. Hopefully, it will be an enjoyable vacation. But life is full of surprises.

    For all the curmudgeons:

A journey is like marriage. the certain way to be wrong is to think you control it (Thanks John Steinbeck).
