  1. Thanks. Last year on Glory we were asked one or the other, no option for both so we chose evening. But, having cruised carnival before we may use of the cruising/snoozing sign and our steward stopped us one day to say "cruising" means service please, and that we'd only asked him for evening, so why were we putting the sign up during the day.

  2. I asked John Heald about this today. Here's his response:

"Yes, the work will be completed during the forthcoming drydock the ship will receive the wonderful and exciting waterworks. These three slides will add huge excitement and fun to the ship. Construction has already started which means unfortunately the current waterslide and forward pool are out of commission. However all the other pools , food services, Guys etc and all of the hotel services and entertainment and deck parties are in full operation and I'm sure you will continue to have a brilliant time. Thank you for your understanding and please let me know if you have any further questions."

Note: He didn't answer my question as to why the Carnival website says it will be completed after dry dock.

Got off the boat today. In addition to the slide being disassembled while we were cruising, 2 of the 6 main hot tubs were broken and the steam room in the fitness center broke at some point on day 5.

I wish we'd been notified about the slide, I could have altered excursion plans to get some slides in.

  3. Totally. Anyone have any good ideas or tips on what to do with your bag when you have a late flight and want to hangout one last day?

Considering changing my flight now, just need to weigh the pros and cons of a change fee!

I guess this is what happens when you only cruiser once a year... we'll have to go more often :)

  4. i've tried to book my steakhouse reservation twice for an upcoming splendor sailing and have yet to receive a reply confirming or denying me. there's a new form in the manage my cruise section, in the past i've just emailed the steakhouse and received a reply within about 24 hours.

anyone have luck booking the steakhouse in advance on splendor recently?

  5. First: No time to do beaches, alas.

*The nearest-nicest: The Lifestyle Beach Resort, which is where we stayed but I'll be damned if I got to spend any time on the beach (!), is upscale, a sort-of Miami Beach-esque kind of club scenario. There's white sand, lounge chairs, beds, and a bar and restaurant, and the fee is inclusive, around $59 per person. Includes transportation to the resort (and back), and it's genuinely lovely (we had dinner there but it was dark and aside from a gorgeous full moon, hard to see much!).

I'm seeing 2 different Lifestyle Beach Resorts listed on excursions with a $10/pp price difference

Lifestyle Holidays Vacation Resort and Lifestyle Serenity VIP Private Beach. Do you recall which one you visited?

  6. I am not 100% on how long they last/expire. It seems to me CCL is focused on your last cruise mainly. However, I cannot see them only basing offers on that since people may have a "down" cruise or something. Best bet is to just email and ask what, if anything, you can get.....

    Here's what they told me:

I specifically asked if points expire and what the timeline is and they did not answer that but said:

"In order to pre-qualify for an On Us drinks card you must have accumulated at least 5000 points on your last cruise."

    They also said:

"If you do not pre-qualify you can also qualify onboard where you will need to accumulate 1500 points."

I am assuming we need to get all 1500 in the upcoming sailing, not in total.

We're not big spenders, so I'm positive neither of us have 5k (or else we would have had free drinks last time).

Though it will be GREAT if they come back to me and say "oh you have 1400 so you only have 100 to go!" (fingers crossed!

  7. Did you email one of the executive hosts? Whenever I go on the short ones, I email them first to see if I had enough points on my last cruise to pre-qualify for the drink card. Usually it is 5,000 points on a 7 day cruise.......hope this helps....

how long are previous points good for? we were just shy of the total needed last time around in february 2014, and are cruising again in april. would love to sit down on night 1 and end up "ahead" of my bar tab.

  8. What's funny about your post is that you implied you spend $50.00 so you don't need to carry your soda with you.....Remember, you room will be available, and you bags will be delivered without paying for it.

Actually, you missed my last line, which, granted, I did minimize since it's not something the majority of people deal with but again, I'm physically unable to stand in a long line.

On trips when FTTF wasn't available, I chose to board as late as possible to skip the line. Per the OPs question: It's worth the $50 to start my vacation a few hours earlier, to not do something that causes me a great deal of pain, and there is an added convenience of having my room available immediately.

I hope my choice to buy FTTF doesn't ruin your vacation!

  9. We're going on the exact same itinerary as we did last year because the price and dates were right and I'm super excited to stay onboard during at least one port. We did book one excursion in the middle of our trip, but if our first time staying onboard is fun, I'm definitely open to doing it again at the 3rd stop.

The thing I love about cruising is that there is always something to do, and therefore you're never missing out by choosing to do nothing.

  10. You really do breeze through security and the biggest benefit is that your room is promised to be ready upon boarding, so no carrying your back pack around or a case of soda if you chose to carry that on too.

Is $50 worth ~1 hr of your time and convenience? For us it is.

I also enjoyed getting access to the "special" line at guest services when I needed help. You also get priority tendering access if you have ports that tender, but I can't comment on that because I took an early excursion and there was no line when we returned.

Is it necessary? Heck no. But I have bad feet, so not waiting in a line truly is worth it for me.
