I'm disagreeing with you.... (My previous post)
All of those critical of the captain, it looks it was predicted to have wind speeds of 75. Anthem could have easily handled that, the TA had a good few days of 80ish winds and swells of up to 18. The movement was noticeable but in no way dangerous. The ship operated as normal - venues open, indoor pools open, people out and about. If this is what was expected the captain knew the ship be fine.

First of all, prayers go out to everyone on board. Their safety is obviously what is important right now.
However those that say that RC had no clue of the capability of this storm are misinformed. As others have stated, weather models picked up on this storm well in advance. I have attached a graphic from the GFS weather model that came out around 11am on Saturday 2/6. The graphic (valid for Sunday evening 2/7, which would have given more than 24 hours notice) shows guidance that suggest winds up to 80 knots associated with this low pressure system. Unsafe sea conditions were being advertised.
I am not a meteorologist, I just follow the weather as a hobby. This particular weather model is free to access to the general public, I can only assume that RC would have access too? Not saying it was the captain's fault, but it seems somebody at RC made reckless or misinformed decision.
Your weather model shows speeds of up to 90....
Where anthem is when the storm hit shows speeds of 30.

Let me just fill you in, I'm loyal to RC also (Diamond Plus and been sailing with them since 1987) but here's the facts: My 89 year old aunt's closet door flew off the hinges and was sliding across the cabin floor, she uses a walker and was afraid to try to get out of bed, she had the only key to her cabin with her as RC only gave her one (only one passenger in the cabin so one key), she pushed the medical alert button in her cabin, someone called her to ask what the problem was but after 2 hours no one showed up to help so I went out looking for a security person who could open her door. That is when I saw the ceiling and also encountered three crew members who when I told them no one responded the told me about the 2 heart attacks and that they were responding to the most severe emergencies first. So as other have said, if you don't know all the facts you shouldn't comment!
Not trying to be critical but although some internal damage to the cabin is potentially scary in not sure it is a medical emergency.
I'm sure the medical teams were dealing with medical issues and perhaps that's why they have not came.

If you don't mind changing you could just buy a return to/from London Heathrow.
Then buy a separate flight from BCN to LHR.

I am glad that your first cruising experience was a pleasant one. With having been on cruise ships for 60+ years, I have found too many issues with the Quantum class ships that could have been either avoided or tended to in a more expedient manner.
I believe that once you have been aboard a few more ships and have a basis for comparison, you as well will have developed certain expectations for the dollars you spend to cruise and find certain inconveniences more than petty. Did they ruin my cruise - no.
Am I willing to pay for those same services again - obviously not, since I cancelled my 3 cruises on Anthem for a B2B2B on Vision.
Perhaps their in lies the problem! If you want a premium service go on a premium cruise line, RC may have been when you started cruising but they are not now! They are mass mid market!
-
Seeing as you seemingly did not like a single thing about this ship (unless you simply neglected to mention a single thing that you did like), I would suggest switching your March cruise to a different ship. It certainly seems that you will be happier that way.
Exactly! Some people just love lo complain!
At least when he goes in March he will have something to complain about for the proceeding few months!
-
In reality:
~125,000 people have been on anthem now.
~250 people have complained about anthem on cruise critic. Everyone who has complained has been very vocal.
0.002% of people have thought that the service was that bad they had to complain about it!
-
I think anyone considering an anthem cruise should bear in mind...

Put in in reality - don't let it put you off your holiday.

Seems like you lot are talking about a completely different ship! I would sail on anthem Tomo if I could get the time off!
-
Unfortunately RC made a terrible mistake and pulled DD from harmony so we all have to suffer traditional dining on this ship :(
-
Drinks package or speciality restaurants!
-
That is the best part of west bound! East bound, loosing those hours each night really add up on the body by the end of the crossing!
We are doing our first TA on anthem this year - how do they accommodate the time difference between Southampton and New York?
Do they change time every night?
-
Hi we booked on board for the first time on our cruise in April, we are also UK based.
We were able to take advantage of USA offers on board, as well as the on board credit deal.
We ended up booking a royal family suite for five which worked out at LESS per person than 2x inside cabins at the UK prices at the same time!
Not sure if it was a price discrepancy for that particular sailing but to get a 13 night cruise in a suite for sub £1000 each is fantastic!
-
Stitchman By the looks of it they actually want Dynamic Dining Choice... Stop trying to flog a dead horse! :)
On our recent Anthem cruise we had no problem just turning up on a few nights because our reservation time didn't suit. We were seated within minutes.
-
I think if you were to cancel the cruise's you would owe the remainder of the deposit... So another £200 pp

People can be registered Disabled for many reasons, many that you can't see. They may have been having some sort of medical emergency. An overflowing stoma for instance.
Calling someone Handicapped is considered quite rude in the UK.
I agree with what you said but I don't think the OP is from the UK.
-
Was it perhaps a Gold Seapass Card? As part of the suite program suite guests have priority tender?
-
I really don't know what to make of all this.
8no pages of Royal Caribbean brochure and website scans advertising Dreamworks and the official line from UK Managing Director Mr Levens office is that they never advertised Dreamworks
Whatever has happened my son has been told, his upset will pass and as a family we still enjoy and are looking forward to the product that RCI provides (I do appreciate for others its non inclusion is more significant). Its all a bit of a sorry affair and not what I have come to expect from Royal but we are where we are.
However, it is one thing for UK RCI to be swerving this issue on a forum with a largely partisan pro Royal crowd and fending off a few emails. It might be a different scenario altogether come Southampton in the summer when 1000+ children are on board and staff members are dealing with the fall out face to face.
I dread to think of how many people for whom Dreamworks is important not being aware that it is now not included :(
.
It was still being advertised on Anthems maiden voyage at the next cruise desk - in the brochure, which I have at home!

Those "Royal Nights" and "Dress your Best" are on Anthem currently sailing from Southampton, England where cruisers typically prefer a dressier atmosphere. Doubt it goes much beyond that.
BTW, what is "Dress Your Best"? If I wear my best shorts does that qualify?
Yes!
-
I had that impression, but if you have to book, that changes the rules slightly :)
You don't have to book! You can just turn up but may have to wait for a table (just like any restaurant!)
-
From the email I got Royal Nights are the same as formal nights...???
No... As the only area of the ship with a formal dress code is The Grande.
-
As RCI will be improving suite amenities The Viking Crown lounge would seem to me to be the easiest way to put a 'suite class' restaurant on freedom and voyager class ships.
It would therefore make sense to swap the diamond and concierge lounges around to keep all suite amenities in the VCL
Just a thought?

You obviously didn't go to the Music Hall? Wild Boys were fabulous, they had a singer with them who was on The Voice (apparently) called Vanessa Hunt. She and the lead singer of WB are now an item and make a great performance. After their set finishes then Dragan, the DJ from the Bionic Bar plays until the small hours......
On the maiden they were trying out a number of locations as the nightclub... 270, boleros, bionic bar and the final night was the music hall! None of them seemed to 'work' and on the last night there was a handful of people in the music hall!
If they have settled on music hall as their club venue then that's probably the best they could have chosen!
'Golden Suites' RCCL China
in Royal Caribbean International

Does anybody know how the 'Golden Suites' program in China differs from the Suite Life programme everywhere else on a voyager class ship?
