  1. We’re sailing on this Oasis TA 14 nights to Barcelona in Royal Star Class Suite this April.  We need n appreciate any suggestions or feed back from those who had stayed in a Royal Star Class Suites.  ?? How much tip we should give to our Genie for the 14 nights cruise?  There’s 5 adults sharing this 2 bedroom Star Class Suite.

We stayed in a Star Class Suite also last Jan 2017 on the Harmony on same suite & there were 4 adults but for 7 nights only and we gave him $600. It does not specify anywhere that we need to tip our Genie or how much to tip our Genie. Any suggestions we will greatly appreciate. BTW....

....we are not rich just retirees on limited income.

Thank you & Happy New Lunar 2019!

  2. We’re sailing with you, Psycho, our first time on to see the ABCs and will stay on for 14 nights TA as well. Looking forward to this Southern Caribbean itinerary since I’m celebrating my birthday big O on this sailing. My daughter & friends are joining us on our Transatlantic crossing.

Kinda cool I think to read your blog same time we’re sailing on the same cruise.

    Looking forward to meeting you,

  3. So is it true that Royal is taking away the 2 free Heini's and bottle of wine? That kinda sucks.

No Magicat, what I meant by “no more wine or alcohol for us” is that we can’t have too much alcohol, doc’s orders, other than perhaps a couple of lemon drop martinis & non-alcoholic beer for DH during [emoji3]hour.

Most of the Gift amenities are wine & alcoholic beverages & not a whole lot of other choices.

I think it’s just a rumor or else other RC loyalist will go looking elsewhere...could be blessing though, think about it!!

  4. I got lucky & was able to log in with no problem. I usually had problem in the past every time I log into my account. Had to just log in reservation # on your future cruises except the most current cruise. It shows all past your cruises as well. Pretty neat, hope it stays this way. But I have yet to check out where the gift preferences are. Perhaps I’ll just wait n see what you guys find out first...thanks !

  5. I don’t think the quality will ever improve which is blessing for me or else I would really gain so much weigh if it’s as good as Princess. I actually gain a few lbs when we cruise with Princess. My plate is always cleaned up bc I just love n finish everything on my plate. But that’s the only thing I love about Princess. My DH finds Princess boring unlike RC. Can’t have the best of both worlds. We are Royal loyalists, we love their promenade ships and of course the perks that comes with the ‘Suite Life’..just saying[emoji8]

  6. Yes it happened to us as well! Caught it by accident paid for extra leg room and few days before our flight our seats were all over plane, my husband's seat was moved at the very back of the plane and my seat was not next to my husband n my daughters were all moved all over the plane! Received no advance notifications at all!!

  7. We're always spending 2-3 nights in Heathrow airport after our cruises, always trying to figure out where we should go in London by train from our Heathrow Marriott Hotel although we've stayed in London 3X before. We never know which is the best places to see at our age 70+ and not get lost n not be able to get back to hotel before it gets real "Dark/ Very late"! [emoji33]

So this is a good thing please keep it coming! Thanks for all the tips everyone[emoji3]

  8. I love jewelries, my bling bling are my price possessions which are mostly costume gemstones. I stop bringing real expensive diamonds jewelries when we travel after we were pulled aside twice years ago at the airport and 2 women started opening my tote bag n starting going my jewelry box with my diamonds in it while the other woman was frisking my body with her wand doing a thorough search on me. I shouted at the other woman who was going thru my jewelries that she cannot do that while I was being frisked n search by another person. Years ago a NY immigration officer insisted that my husbands old gold clad sterling silver ring was new and was purchased in Italy while we had already claimed the max allowed on our immigration form. He made us pay $180 for that ring old tarnished ring now!

But my problem is how to minimize my jewelries I bring. My carry on had to be inspected on our recent cruise last Jan. due to all my bling bling I brought...they could not see thru xrays with all the jewels pack together. The officer claims I just brought too much bling bling but I told him we were just on a 35 nights cruise. On one occasion right before embarkation, the inspection officer also had to search mybag due to bling bling inside my carry on. I asked him what was wrong and what is he looking for. He jokingly said I just brought way too much, way too much bling bling! We're going on another 32 nights cruise next month. I have to put each of my bling bling in separate jewelry plastic bags and not conceal completely with black jewelry bags so I don't have to be stop by TSA but if it happens again...no problem.

  9. Great pics and report! Brings back memories of our 19 nights on her week after the inaugural in UK. Love the DD, the layout of the entire ship but the only thing we really did not enjoy are the shows, compared to the production shows on the Oasis class ships. We would love to try her one more time if only RC would bring her to FLL instead of NJ. Thanks again for posting and btw, love your barong. I had to show it to my DH? Did you buy it in Manila or here?

  10. Thanks for ideas on keeping a journal. I'm seriously planning on bring one this time from now on all our cruises. I'm in my late 70s now in fact turning 80 God willing next year but I don't look my age at all, no work done on me or we can't afford to cruise. Well anyway I find myself now forgetting where the places we have traveled n cruise ports n gourmet eateries, unforgettable friends we've met along the way. The journal will be a valuable to my sanity in case I start losing my memory..[emoji120][emoji568]

  11. I've read every post on here about how to pack for an Alaskan cruise. I've watched DOZENS of YouTube videos on packing for an Alaskan cruise. You'd think I'd know how to pack wouldn't you?

Well....most, if not all of those posts or videos are for those cruising in June or July. These people are suggesting that we bring along shorts and capris, short sleeves, etc... But Aug (certainly the end of the month which is when our cruise is ...) is very different from June/July. I'm doubting if shorts/capris are really the things we need...but I don't know.....

Does anyone have any suggestions...or links to a YouTube video that by some strange chance I haven't found.... with suggestions for how to pack for Alaska in Aug./Sept. (Yes, we're disembarking in Sept....

    Thanks!

We're also going at the same time, end of Aug and spend couple days post cruise in Seattle since it's a 3-day weekend. This is our 3rd Alaska cruise but it's been awhile since our last one. Great packing tips here for us as well since we always overpack. Thanks for starting this thread.

  12. We were on the Harmony Xmas Holiday with our immediate family and then returned on Jan 7 sailing, this time with my bro n his wife.

We did not feel pressured or bothered at all, we just let them know (with a smile) we have a Royal Star Class stateroom.

I think they do get a commission on the # of reservations they are able to sell...they're probably just trying to increase their income along with their minimal tips they earn. Minor things such as this does not bother us at all especially being in a cruise when you keep saying to yourself " This is the Suite Life" plus count your blessings and be grateful that you're able to afford n healthy to go on a cruise.

    ....just saying[emoji847]
