I hope you have more luck than I did as that area of the ship is very lovely.  Will certainly mention the volume of the music in my Celebrity survey!  Maybe it was just me - I was shocked at how packed the pool area was as I found the volume particularly bothersome in that area (not saying music isn't appropriate in that space as it should have a party atmosphere but for me the volume was uncomfortable).   Apparently though hundreds of people disagreed!

I definitely agree. It would be nice if they were quieter areas but this is a great reminder that noise canceling headphones are awesome and I will definitely pack them for my upcoming trip on beyond so thanks for posting this point.

Is it worse to put bare feet up on a chair rather than shoed feet? I don't see the difference.

Well, this might sound crazy but what if you just put your feet up on a lounge chair on the deck? Or on your own bed? What if we didn’t put our feet on the chairs at all? I literally cannot believe I’m writing this. I can’t believe I’m sucked into this silly conversation! Now I think about it all day. Ha ha ha.

They’re for all the pages I rip out of magazines.  🙂

It is a lot easier to carry one iPad instead of 10 magazines.  But you don’t need to recharge paper.

I also think it’s good to have one or two magazines because if I’m reading on deck and it’s really sunny, sometimes the iPad is trouble. I do have a Kindle but I really  like that zoom instead of using reading glasses lol.

our  7 yr old grandson, who is tech saavy, loves all the print fan mags for Pokemon.. .nice posters!

He will also learn script..So sad to see grown ups sign  papers in print!

Travel mags and natl geographic are nicer in print

Reading is fun on a tablet/ kindle but some books are worth putting on our book shelves!

Kids are still learning cursive in school. They are also learning how to develop apps and studying the cultures of countries I didn’t hear of until I was in my 20s. They are studying amazing things in science and being challenged in math.

if someone prefers to print instead of writing in cursive, I don’t think it’s sad. I think it’s just their preference these new generations know more by the time they’re 10 then I did when I was 20.

but I agree with you on the magazines lol I read almost everything on my iPad but when I’m in an airport, it feels luxurious to grab a handful and think of my old days of hanging out in a bookstore.

  5. We just got off a cruise on brilliance of the seas that had a similar lack of staff around the pool. Obviously, I have no idea if this is factual, but I did hear from a number of people that cruise lines are having the same labor issues. Many businesses in the US are having, and it wasn’t a question of the cruise line hiring few were just fewer people willing to work the cruise.

  6. It seems you have your answer to the question I just wanted to mention that when traveling with my older relatives we rent a scooter and it makes all the difference in their ability to cruise. Ships are big and if you have balance issues it can be a safety concern.

um…. how come you 2 are 10,000% more interesting and interesting looking than anyone I have ever been on a cruise with? I love it 100%. I know that math doesn’t math I’m just saying I’m loving reading this blog.

  8. Getting coverage the same reason a plane crash does more than car accidents because it’s a lot of people in one place. And they can count them, the cases that is. A few years ago there was a measles outbreak tied to Disneyland and there was certainly plenty of talk about Disneyland then. So far there hasn’t been another place where so many cases happened in the same location is on a cruise ship. Also I booked one last week for April so I’m putting it in perspective!

    2) Magnetic hooks. We find them very useful for a wide variety of things around the cabin. We currently use https://amzn.to/38rwwD7 with 80 pound pull strength. We started with a set of 22 pound strength and they weren't strong enough for a lot that we tried to use them for.

Out of curiosity what kind of things do you use these hooks for?

Another vote for Hotel Smeraldo and if you are not an intrepid walker, this Golf Cart tour is fabulous.

https://mybesttour.com   Gets you up close and personal to everything and avoids bust congested main roads.

Thanks for the suggestion I’m going to be traveling with someone who is not a very good worker and I think that this will be a great solution

Why would HAL inject such a radical political figure into the joys and pleasure of cruising. We cruise to avoid such posturing. In addition, cruising is the last place I want to go to be subjected to Weight Watchers propaganda... Doesn't look like it is working for her...

My goodness how can you be so hateful on a Sunday morning! I have to say if you're somebody who can get so worked up about a stranger that you resort to body shaming I hope we do not cross paths on any ship.

  12. Thanks to the folks here on CC, I have booked a Retreat Cabana for my upcoming spring break cruise on the NA. Does anyone know when the cabanas are first available to use? Can I go there upon embarkation, after lunch, after muster, at sailaway? Just trying to get a feeling for the timing as this is a surprise for my Mom.

Thank you so much for your help!

Can I ask how much it cost and how long your cruise is?

  13. I've done this in the Southern Caribbean, it was a great way for a small group to enjoy time together....the part of the island we wanted to see was across the island from the ship, and one member of the party was sun-sensitive. So we were able to tour together and eat lunch. Then I went to the pool, my friend went to the beach and my mom went to the room to relax. We were all able to shower and change and then enjoy some shopping near the pier when we weren't covered in sand or wearing a wet suit under a cover up.

I think this would be a great idea for families as well if there are little ones that need a nap and older ones that want to play on the beach. You could also use a hotel to get a spa treatment for half the price of the ship, noting that you don't need to be a guest to do that, it is just another idea.

If having a home base is great for you, go for it! It only cost us a little more than it would have to get umbrellas, chairs etc. on the beach.
