First time cruising with family. Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas allows us off the boat (in Nassau) after showing our SeaPass card but didn’t mention (as we exited or on the literature) that we would need our passports or photo ID to get OUT of the port shopping area. As a result, my husband and son were separated from me and my daughter because they didn’t have photo ID with them (my daughter and I happened to have our drivers licenses with us). There was no explanation as to where they were being taken. Our son was very anxious and scared. He is afraid to get off the ship in Haiti, the next port, where we have a planned excursion. This situation did not have to happen if we had been notified PRIOR to leaving the ship that we needed anything more than our SeaPass card. Very disappointed with Royal Caribbean’s handling of this.

Who would ever get off a ship in a foreign port without proper photo identification? ....and explain to me how this is RCCL's fault?

Our Freedom of the Seas Oct 28 cruise cancelled Bonaire too.   We were booked on the Woodwind in Bonaire and was super excited to go.   We just booked Blue Safari half day trip in St Kitts .   You might look at that tour.

Did you see that as an option on your Cruise Planner?  They haven't posted anything but I figure it might be to close to our sailing and we'll have to do it on the ship.  I am just looking to see if anyone knows whether RCCL will offer excursions or do we have to get one on our own.

  3. Yeah no big deal but we were looking forward to a snorkeling trip we had booked.

RCCL replaced it with St. Kitts and hasn't posted any excursions for that stop.  Anyone know if they will?  If they do will we have to book it on the ship? (4 days to go!)  If no excursions via RCCL anyone know of a great/good snorkeling trip on St. Kitts or a great/good Resort for a day type of thing? Not worried about cost.

    Thanks.

  4. Don't hold me to it, but the typical on that type of run is Day 2/Day 6 formal nights.

The show times depend on your all-aboard times at some of these ports. It's not a straight ALL SHOWS ARE AT _____ TIME! There is always an early and a late show.

Most shows do the 6:30/8:30 or the 7:00/9:00 or the 8:00/10:00 format. The point being there is typically an early show and a late show for everything. Some ice shows have 3 times if I'm remembering correctly.

There are some shows that only have 1 showing, but these aren't typically the big ones.

It is important for you to know that typical seating and formal nights are getting smaller and smaller each year. You should know that before you go because since it has been many years, you may not see nearly as many participating as in years past. I understand your comment about not wanting it to turn into an argument and that's not where I'm going with this.

It is simply a fact that participation is declining on many (but certainly not all) routes and lines. It may not be the way your remember it, but I truly hope you enjoy vacationing the way you love to vacation!

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer, it is truly appreciated. Yes I am sure we will love it regardless of the participation.

  5. We are booked on Freedom of the Seas October 20 sailing out of San Juan.

One of the reasons why we are coming back to RCCL is my wife likes the traditional dining at 8:30pm, having the same waiter etc. Question: Back in the day if you had the late seating you went to the early show, early seating you went to the late show. Is this still the case on RCCL/FOS? Do they two shows every night based on the 6 / 8:30 seatings?

One more.... how do we find out what nights are formal nights on our cruise? (We still like them so please don't hijack the thread with Formal Night / No Formal night discussions.)

    Thanks in advance.

  6. My wife and I have cruised on many occasions with both Celebrity, and most recently, Princess. While we have enjoyed both cruise lines, we've decided to try NCL for a change. It will be nice to be on a ship that offers different dining and entertainment options where we don't know precisely where everything is located!

We have booked a 14 day West to East Panama Canal cruise on the Jewel for February 2017. We like the size of the ship (not too big), cabin selection (Aft/Mini Suite), and the itinerary. The booking incentives offered were another inducement. We both chose the beverage package - from what I've read, this is the choice of most passengers. Herein lies my concern.

I have been reading many complaints from passengers about overly crowded bars and lengthy waits for service. Some passengers have detailed their problems on consumer awareness websites. Many of the complaints originate from Norwegian ships departing from Florida ports.

Offering an unlimited beverage package incentive is obviously going to increase "bar business". Has Norwegian failed to make provisions to deal with the additional workload, or is the scope of the problem being overstated?

My wife and I just came off a 4 day cruise on the Pearl. No problems at all getting a drink at anytime at any bar.

I will say getting a drink in the MDR was slow, but that was solved by the second night by bringing a drink with us.

  7. I'm on this cruise also and planned to stay on board at GSC. I found a music charter review last year with a lot of pictures of the pool area. The small pool forward of the main pool was open with people using it. I suspect the hot tub closest to the stage and covered pool will also be closed, but hopefully the two hot tubs behind the main pool will be available. If not, I may end up buying a spa pass. See you on board.

The sun and the pool deck is the main reason why we are getting away so I hope this isn't the case. If it is, I would feel this is a little bit of false advertising on NCL's part. Something closed for maintenance? No problem. Something closed to prepare for a future cruise? B.S.

    Thanks for the info.

  8. That might be the case, our last cruise on Pearl was just before a music charter and they started stage construction already on last day before our disembarkation so doing that over and over again wouldn't give that much time to use the pool deck as large portion of it was roped off because of the space needed for the construction.

Thanks for the response. While we are at GSC on the last day we tend to stay on the ship so I hope that is not the case.

  9. I am looking at going on a cruise in the beginning of November.

During my research I noticed that the Pearl is not available from Oct 29 - November 3rd and then again from November 7th to the November 19th.

Anyone know why? Charter? Dry dock?

    Just curious.

    Thanks,

  10. We will be taking our first cruise on the Getaway next month and are casino addicts! But the photos that I have seen make it appear as though this casino is spread out into hallways, etc...so I am worried that it will not have the same "feel" as other NCL ship casinos....

I would appreciate anyone with experience to chime in.....as we tend to spend 5-6 hours per night in the casino and it is one of the most important aspects of our enjoyment.

    Thanks!

I was on the Getaway this time last year and I definitely agree it did not have the same feel as the other NCL ships. I am not sure how to describe it other than to say it felt like a lot of little casinos instead of one big one. Of course that didn't stop me from making a "contribution". :)

  11. If this has ever happened, it was probably on one condition: that the person never ever talk about it anywhere on the Internet… There must be dozens of people at the start of every cruise who are just one or two points away from the next tier. They will all get there soon enough.

Appreciate you taking the time out of your life to make a snarky condescending comment. I hope I didn't take you away from something important.
