  1. Hi britv,

I hope your trip went well - welcome back.

Did you choose the park4less ?

Yes..I did choose park4less and would definitely recommend them.

It was pouring with rain when we arrived and the shuttle followed us to our parking spot and helped with luggage so we didn't get soaked. We were at the airport in around 10 mins.. quickest we have ever been.

We didn't use the shuttle coming back as we flew into the Billy Bishop airport so got Uber from Union station direct to park4less

They are definitely the cheapest out there and I have no hesitation to recommend them! :)

  2. I think the credit showed up on our account as soon as we purchased it. We bought 10 $100 credit certificates, they were in our room waiting for us but we just took our sail and sign card down to casino cashier following day to see if we needed to bring certificates but they just took it right off our s&s card minus 3%. We took $600 first day and $400 a few days later

  3. When you go to the casino you give them your sail and sign card and that is how you withdraw funds. The OBC you purchased is all on your sail and sign card. The only money you can not withdraw from the casino is the money you get from your TA or a credit from the cruise line itself. We have done this many times. Being Canadian this is how we get our spending money, buying OBC before we go at a cheaper rate than the bank. Luckily we purchased our cruise a long time ago so we got it for 1.11. Even at the rates they are giving today through NCL, it may seem a lot but it's still better than you would get at the bank.

Just got back from the Escape and had no problem getting cash from our onboard credit. Thanks for all the advice!

  4. I phoned NCL yesterday and spoke with someone at Casino reservations and they said you could cash out OBC for a 3% fee..great..what I wanted to hear!

Today I phoned back as I wanted to purchase $150 OBC for a gift for someone else. I asked to confirm exchange rate and it would have cost me $55 more then buying online because they booked later at a different exchange rate.

So I asked if I could buy it for myself online and then cash it out at casino. I was told no, you cant do this. I said they wanted the money for casino (it was a birthday gift) He said if you have any money on your sail and sign card they will take it from that not give you cash.

So confused TA said no..NCL said no but Casino said yes!

    Has anyone done this recently?

  5. I am having a heck of a time getting my money back from NCL! Its not a huge amount, but the amount of time I have spent trying to get it is incredible! I am currently on hold for the 3 time with their post-cruise relations (and have been in the queue now for 45 mins). I have also written 4 emails to NCL (I have case numbers), but they have never responded.

I had a $70 or so balance left on the OBC I had bought in advance when disembarking. They told me that it would be refunded to the CC after the cruise. It was not, so I called customer relations (the 1st time) they said it would provided in 4 weeks. Then I waited 4 weeks and called/emailed again. They said in 6 weeks. It has now been 8 weeks since we arrived back and I have tried getting in touch with them many times (my TC tried as well, but since I purchased it myself on the NCL website they would not provide her with any info).

So - I would suggest you insist on any refunds before leaving the ship. I am really really disappointed with their post-cruise service (especially since we have 2 future cruises already booked)!!!

Thanks for the info. Do you know if you could have cashed it out at the Casino? I am hearing so many conflicting reports on this and would like to hear first hand if this is still an option!

  6. Thanks for all your replies.

I have the Capitol One Costco CC but didn't know they didn't charge the currency exchange fee. I read everything when I got the card and this wasn't listed so I assumed as it would be a feature to advertise they didn't have that feature. I will call them to make doubly sure, thanks for that info. I do have another cc that doesn't charge the exchange fee so I have options.

The whole reason for the post is wanting to save in the current exchange rates.

Right now we can buy obc paying $222.22 CDN for $200 USD. If we exchange at the bank it will cost us $281.95 CDN for $200 USD. Even with the 3% Casino fee that's a big saving. I just want to make sure we can cash this out so we have cash for off ship on port days.

  7. I was intrigued by the discussion on minimizing my foreign exchange costs on my December cruise on the Escape and called the TA I booked through at Expedia. I asked him to buy $500 per room.

He called me back and said he had good news and bad news.

Bad news - he was told I could only buy the credit in the room that has 2 adults (I have 2 rooms, non connecting, side by side with my kids in the 2nd room). The reason being something related to the casino and minors.

Good news was the exchange rate was par as I booked the cruise 9 months ago. I got a copy of the amenity sheet. It says I have the beverage package for 2, prepaid service charges and a $500 credit (does not note the currency) that will be in cabin day 1 and that my Canadian credit card had been charged $500.

He told me I could add more credit to the adult room if I wanted but I don't see needing it. I have the drink package, prepaid my service charges in Canadian dollars at the old rate plus my kids room came with $250 in credits.

My question is this sounds too good to be true but time will tell. If I buy another $500 but do not need it, can I get the cash on board or will the money just be refunded to my credit card. I have read about people cashing out at the casino. I have never played in the casino before. Do I just go to the cage and ask for the cash? I understand there is a 3% fee but if this is all true I am looking at 1.03 vs. what I think will be 1.38 to 1.43 by December.

    Any thoughts or comments.

    Thanks

This thread has been very intriguing, I will be on the Escape in 17 days and wondering about buying OBC instead of changing money at the bank (CDN to US$) before we go. Exchange rates are horrendous right now. If I buy OBC can I exchange it for cash at the casino before our first port stop. I would like to have cash for cruise ports to do our own excursions. Thanks!
