Given all the discussion about COVID, cruise cancellations and excursion cancellations, I'm not sure whether there's much interest in discussing actual cruise ship amenities but I'll ask anyway in case someone knows the answer.  We'll be on the Viking Sky departing August 28th.  Apparently the main swimming pool becomes an indoor swimming pool when covered by the retractable roof.  Does anyone know whether either the hot tubs or main swimming pool were available for use during the July or August sailings?

Both the indoor and the outdoor hot tubs and swimming pools were available on our Aug 7 cruise.  The hot tubs were max capacity 2 and the pools 4 people.

For those on current cruises that require the Viking "bubble" and return to Reykjavik early due to missed ports, are they letting you off the ship? Our July 17 cruise missed Heimeay so we arrived back early but Viking ran a shuttle bus until midnight that Friday for us. We did not have the "bubble" requirement.

We were on the Sky Aug 7 and had to skip Heimeay due to rough waters.  When we arrived in Reykjavik an announcement was made that a night time bus excursion to see the city was being offered but otherwise we were not allowed off the ship.

Captain just made an announcement that the Coastguard requires us to return directly to Reykjavik. He said shore excursions would be refunded and Viking was determining how to compensate us for the disruption. He stopped abruptly and said thank you. And there was not a follow on by Jenna. It ran through my head that he stopped so quickly as the phone rang with either Mr Hagen or the Iceland government with more information.   Stay tuned.

You are a rock star, Clay Clayton.  I really appreciate all of  your sensible and fact-filled posts.  I would like to meet you IRL and buy you a drink someday!

  4. SHIP: Silhouette

    CABIN #: 8340

    DECK #: 8

    CLASS: Sky Suite

    AREA: Aft, starboard corner

    BED NEAR: balcony

QUIET?: Yes, with the exception of occasional window washing scaffold squeak

BALCONY VIEW: Wide open view aft, slight obstruction from window washing platform, but easy to see around.

BALCONY SIZE: Huge! two lounge chairs with foot rests and a table.

    WIND A PROBLEM?: No

    SOOT A PROBLEM?: No

PROBLEMS/COMMENTS: It's a long walk back to this cabin, but well worth it! There are no neighbor noises, very private, tons of storage space (made me wish I had packed more!) and the afternoon tea was a real treat. If I ever get the chance, I'll book this cabin again!
