  1. Thanks for the replies received for this post. The flights into LAX are normally around $250pp; however, becuase it will be spring break in our area flights are averaging $660 pp from Dallas Forth Worth into LAX. Flying into ONT was cheaper but is still costly with transportion to the port.

  2. Has anyone ever flown into Los Angeles Ontario airport for a cruise? I am doing pricing for airfare and would like to include this airport as a option, if we can secure easy transporation to the port of Long Beach. It doesn't appear Carnival offer shuttle service from the ONT. I was able locate one company that offers transporation but have not seen any mention of this company anywhere the cruise sites.

  3. However, it's not the number of non-stop carriers that matters. FWIW, there is only one non-stop per day from DTW to either city and that's to Rome. So I guess "more" is accurate in talking about 1 versus 0. It's a function of supply and demand between the city pairs considering multiple routings, including nonstops and connections.

You have some significant price pressure on fares into BCN delivered by TAP and Icelandair. However, much depends on market conditions closer in to your trip - you won't find schedules out for June 2018 until July of this year.

Personally, I'd pick the cruise that is more appealing to me and accept any air price differentials as the incidental cost of getting the trip I want. My cynical side says that if a couple hundred in air pricing is going to significantly change my opinion of a European cruise, I probably shouldn't be taking that trip in the first place. Go where you want to.

It's the same cruise, we just have an option to board in Barcelona or Rome. Wouldn't mind departing from Rome this time but not if air fare is much higher.

  4. Cute thread.

I used to be a lot more relaxed and laid back on cruises...but now that I'm a mom I'm back to being anxiety mcworrywart while on vacay.

We'll have to sprinkle in some child-free cruises so I can have a week to just chill.

    This is so me!

  5. I see you're going on the Magic, so if it's a cove balcony, I would definitely take it! They are amazing, and the only balcony we'll pay extra for. A cove should be on every cruiser's bucket list! Lol

I haven't been to AC, but San Juan and St Thomas are both good places for excursions. SJ is rich in history, so there are a lot of tours around the forts and things. We went to a resort. In ST, we took the sky ride up to Paradise Point. The view is breathtaking, but don't eat at the restaurant up there. High priced and mediocre food. We also went to Magen's Bay. It was pretty, but overrated and very, very crowded. No chairs to be had. And be prepared that if you do go there, they drive CRAZY in ST, so the ride up the mountain can be a little scary. Lol In Grand Turk, there's a beach right there when you get off the ship. You will love the Magic, she's our favorite! And you're going to some great ports. The water in GT is gorgeous, and the beach we were at in SJ is one of the most beautiful we've ever seen.

Watermelonqueen99, please tell me what's so exciting about the cove balconies? I'm really curious. We always book a regular balcony cabin when we cruise, so I'm wondering what we're missing out on.

I've just started reading your review. Loving it so far :)

My sister n law and her husband plan on joining us on this cruise. This will be the first cruise they've ever been on. I'm thinking if we got a balcony, they'd definitely sit out with us but I noticed that the balcony only as 2 chairs. Plus my knowing both of their personalities, they love to dance, gamble, etc so I couldn't see them staying in the cabin for too long. They'd definitely utilize it simply to sleep, get dressed and whatever else grown folks do in a room..lol.

My husband is Puerto Rican, so he is very excited about visiting San Juan. I'm super excited about visiting St Thomas. I know we will be cruising during hurricane season, so one never knows about visiting a port.

  6. This question is about the most subjective I've seen on here. It is 100% dependent on timing and where you're coming from.

Take a look at Google flights and can get a good idea.

You are absolutely correct. It was more curiosity of what rates everyone is finding. It's good to know deals are still out there and we don't have to break the bank to get back to BCN.

  7. I have tried fare alerts and have kept my eyes open to fly into BCN from Sac. Needless to say the prices from the west coast are outrageous. We are over two hours from San Francisco which we left out of for one cruise. We will not do that one again. We also took SWA to San Francisco and transferred for another vacation. It was not fun and based on those two experiences we decided to bite the bullet and keep our eyes open.

How close to your cruise did you find your better prices?

We found our airfare 8 months out on our last cruise out of BCN. Once I booked the cruise, I immediately started watching airfare and purchased when I felt it was a good deal.

  8. Air prices are all over the place. Are you asking just for conversation, or trying to find a good deal?

Even if only one way, buying a RT might be a good deal. We have done coach in the $600 range. Recently did Biz RT from Nashville for $1500

Days of week, month, season all have major impacts.

I'm not trying to find a deal yet. I'm not looking to cruise until 2018 but was mainly trying to get a feel for average air fares. Never too early to research.

  9. We are flying out of DFW into BCN for our March Spirit cruise. I caught a sale on Delta for $445 roundtrip. I set up several fare alerts on sites and haven't seen that low a price very often from any of the TX airports I was checking (AUS,DFW,IAH).

Great deal. It's good to read that deals are still possible out of DFW. We snagged one on our last trip to BCN but that was 4 years ago.

  10. Round trip or one way? We are doing a Transatlantic in October so only one way, flying San Francisco to BCN on Norwegian air, assigned seating, one meal and one snack, one checked bag for $309

Round trip. It's been a few years since we've flown to Barcelona and was trying to get an idea of what most people are paying. We will be flying from Dallas-Fort Worth airport, once we plan our cruise.

  11. here is from their FAQ on carnivals website

Bringing Liquor and Beverages Onboard - Embarkation

    • Guests are prohibited from bringing water, sodas and other non-alcoholic beverages onboard that are packaged in bottles.
    • A small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages (i.e., sparkling water, sodas, juice, and milk) packaged in cans or cartons may be brought onboard on embarkation day and must be in the guest's carry-on luggage. A small quantity is considered a maximum of 12 sealed, unopened cans/cartons of 12 ounces each or less per person.

You are awesome, thanks a bunch.
