  1. How was the glow party?   It is good to see that they moved it from the H2O area to the pool.   Is the smokestack soot still a problem in the H2O area?

Great posts, by the way.  They are getting me excited for my summer cruise to Alaska.   I, being originally from California, am a warm weather guy.   However, I'm running out of Mexican and Caribbean places to cruise to.

  2. We will be at the CasaBlanca hotel in old San Juan.  Is it walkable from old San Juan to the cruise port?   I remember in New Orleans we took a cab for what turned out to be a 3 block ride.  From the map it looks walkable, but sometimes cities are not pedestrian friendly.

Just a quick note / FYI - for a good laugh - on NCL's not so wonderful customer service and call center agent giving inaccurate information, on buying their own ETPP this week.

One of our BIL/SIL+1 sailing later this month to Bermuda, as usual - they prefer to have inexpensive & basic, minimal travel coverage - against unexpected medical, not trip interruption. Thus, the cheapest ETPP of $25 p/p ($75 for 3) sold by NCL is a good match for them. Insure My Trip has better coverage and prices, lowest offered are $165, $174 and $204.

Long story short, this was offered to them last October and they purchased it as add-on, long after final payment but before they sailed. Email pushed out to them again last week, inside the 30 days mark to call, buy & add.

He called and the call center agent said, SORRY, you can only buy that within 24 hours of final payment and it can no longer be added, etc. etc. Well, not satisfied with the answer & I looked up/reviewed the fine prints ... nothing in writing about it in the PDF, quite to the contrary. What B.S.

I called and got (probably, for sure) a different agent who apparently knew what he was talking about, and said - yes, it is available, looking at the reservation record, etc. Fifteen minutes, credit card charged and bargain plan added, confirmation emailed and also listed under their Reservation Summary-At-A-Glance ... in the Payment section.

In short, don't like their answer(s) or disagree with their scripted response, hang up, wait and do a quick fact-checking yourself, call again and there is a good chance for getting a different response. This seemed to be fairly consistent and inline with some of the other feedbacks lately of NCL customer services being all over the place.

(And, you have to wonder, is anybody really monitoring and listening in over their call centers at the supervisory level to assure quality & customer satisfaction ... I am afraid to guess the possibility, feel free to debate.)

I work with computers and this is the same with any call center.   If you get a less than helpful person, hang up and try again.

  4. I have to wonder why you brought up this 11 year old thread on the Carnival forum to direct people to your review about things being loud on your NCL cruise earlier this year.

I did a search on "Loud Music" and it came up with this thread. I did not notice the date though. Also my post of the link to my review was in response to the post asking if anyone else felt the music was too loud.

I did indeed post my review, and thoughts, in the NCL section. Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks the music on cruises is too loud, no matter the cruise line. On NCL, even the movies were way too loud in the atrium.

  5. I took my first cruise solo on the Norwegian Epic solely because they had solo cabins. I'm taking my fifth cruise with Norwegian next month. There are usually two places to dance on Norwegian's larger ships, and I do a MUCH better job of socializing when a dance floor is involved. I'm mid 50's, but I got the youngsters (mid 20's) involved in circle dances, dance challenges (think dance offs) , etc, etc. I suppose to be fair, it should be noted I will get on an empty dance floor by myself if I like the music (Brick House, Motown Philly,Uptown Funk, most stuff by Pit Bull).

If you are a solo traveler, don't be shy, get out there. Remember, you will probably never see these people again!

  6. Great thread! I've spent entirely too much time reading this and there are so many things I definitely wouldn't have thought of before. DH and I just booked our first cruise for our 10th anniversary and I am so excited. Only now I have to wait 9 months. :P

You mean after you deliver? ;-)

  7. Here is my top five list (OK plus a couple of extras). Some are repeats of what others have said, but I think they are worth emphasizing:

    • Arrive at your departure port one day early to avoid stress.

I'm taking the red eye flight and will arrive at the miami airport at 5:40 a.M. !#$%!

I think 5 -6 hours should be enough. I'll find out.

    Scott
