  1. When I was originally trying to book, I thought that the SDP was like the UBP - for the entire length of the cruise! It wasn't until after I booked that I realized it was only for 3 days. They don't advertise it and I couldn't find it in the terms and conditions. Did I miss it? It would be kind of nice to know before choosing your perks bc it could influence the decision.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Same here! The only reason I realized it was 3 days was because I made reservations online and it wanted to charge me. Ended up calling customer service to figure out why.

We lucked out and got the SDP and the UBP for free when we booked, so I couldn't be too upset about only 3 nights in a specialty restaurant

  2. You set up login details and buy a package. The package applies to that account and can be used on multiple devices (and therefore by multiple people), but only one login at a time. It can therefore be shared around your cabin, or even with people in other cabins.

When you logout you can see how much has been used to date.

So if my friend and I went in on the unlimited package, we can both use it, just not at the same time?

I just want to make sure I'm understanding it correctly.

  3. Quick question about internet packages.

I was not going to purchase one as part of the reason I cruise is to get away, however some things have come up that I'll need one for my next cruise.

Are the packages sold per cabin or per person? Do they give you a specific password when you check in for the wifi? Is there a way to check how much time you have available?

    Thanks in advance!

  4. So this is my first cruise with NCL, and I'm super excited! Online Check In seems to be missing something though.

The other line that I've cruised has you enter a credit card number at online Check In for your onboard spending, but I didn't see it when I completed Check In for this cruise. When do I give them my card for on board spending?

    Thanks in advance!

  5. Good morning!

Looking for a little bit of information. My friend and I are sailing on the Dawn in June, and we got the Ultimate Dining Package for free because of a promotion when we booked.

My question is, it looks like you need reservations for many of them. Should we have our reservations all set before we sail? Book them all once we board? Or can we decide that morning where we want to eat that night and make a reservation.

Just a little confused as to how this all works.

    Thanks!

  6. Make sure you do research on the public transportation in Bermuda. There are 1,2,and 3 day passes you can buy at the Dockyard and it cuts your transportation costs way down from buying the $4 tokens. If you buy the passes, you have to pay with cash. They don't accept credit or debit cards. If you pay in cash on the bus, it is coins only, no paper money. There are just a few of the must knows before you use the public transportation but it really the best way to get around Bermuda.

Can you tell me how much those passes were, and if they take American cash?

  7. The beaches never close, they're open 24 hours a day, every day, except during hurricanes when, of course, they are closed. But then you're not likely to be here on a cruise ship during a hurricane so the beaches are all yours whenever you want.

Horseshoe beach is the favourite and there's extra buses to there from Dockyard, although it's easy enough to get there on the number 7 bus.

So we can get to Horseshoe Bay by taking the 7 bus from the backyard? How often does the bus run and how much does it cost?

Glad I checked out this thread since this is what I came for!

  8. I'm torn on this issue, and admittedly haven't read the whole thread.

DH is a smoker and I'm not. I'll still got out on our balcony with him and it doesn't bother me unless I'm standing on the railing with him, and I'm down wind. So I can see how your neighbors are affected by it.

But walking by the casino now bothers me now. Not through it, just by it. The amount of people smoking in the casino now is going to increase, making it even worse. I'm not happy about that because I like walking the promenade and that's where pictures are done. It's an unavoidable area.

We won't be sailing on Carnival again unless they open up one side to smokers and one to non, or until DH quits. It's a shame because I really like Carnival, but this rule change will have a negative affect on both of us, as a smoker and a non-smoker.

Next up we're trying NCL, and though they may go the way of banning smoking on balconies at some point, they don't right now.

  9. We dropped the luggage off to a porter, before heading for the park garage, $112 for the week, so much better than paying for parking in NYC.

All in all - a great cruise vacation. I'm open for questions if you have any.

    deb:D

Was this port parking or at a different parking lot? Was it difficult navigate? DH and I have only ever sailed out of Miami and I'm glad I've never had to drive through it because embarkation day is crazy! How would Boston compare?

  10. I will say that price drops are common on Carnival, and they even have a specific page on their website to just pull up pricing information. But I'm not sure about Princess or Disney.

With that being said, and given some of the responses on this thread, is price drop OBC not given on NCL? I never book with the intentions of getting any, but it's nice to have a little cushion for on board spending.

  11. Like the OP we have only cruise Carnival and have had zero issues. Personally I really like Carnival, but we wanted to try NCL so we could leave from Boston which means we can drive to port instead of having to fly.

I've heard that CCL and NCL have more similarities than differences, but the on board entertainment does look a bit better. I'm also looking forward to trying the Freestyle cruising. We'll probably still dress up, but it will be nice not to have to adhere to a "schedule" on vacation.

  12. OCD is not really healthy. Not something I would want to get involved with. I book a cruise. Book my excursions and extras, then enjoy the cruise. The point is to get away and relax, not to be stressed out and obsessive about the vacation.

But those of us that are like that really don't stress over it, we really get just as much enjoyment from planning as we do the cruise!

The cruise I just booked is slightly less than a year away, the shortest wait time we've had, so I'm in total planning mode. I've got my binder all done up, our itinerary printed, driving instructions to the port (first time driving, not flights or hotels for us!), excursion ideas, packing lists, planned outfits to wear, and sample restaurant menus. I've read reviews of the ship, seen countless pictures, and learned deck plans. Like a PP said, I get a little bummed when everything is all planned!

Luckily DH is happy to just sit back and let me obsess, as long as I don't give him too much information, he likes the surprise!

  13. Hello!

DH and I are looking at booking our first NCL cruise, and on Carnival we really liked the aft facing balcony, mostly because they are much deeper and better for lounging. I'm trying to figure out on NCL's website if the balconies on the Dawn are the same way, but I'm having a hard time finding the information. Also tried looking on a website that people post cabin pictures and couldn't find anything there.

Can anyone help me with this? Pictures would be great too :p

    Thanks!

  14. I love the blue/green water

After Sail Away we spent some time lounging on our balcony, and then decided to get some pictures taken. We honestly don't buy many, but enjoy having them taken, and find it a good way to kill so time before dinner since we do late seating.

We took our fill of pictures so we decided to head to the Platinum Dining Room and wait for the doors to open.

When the doors opened and we were brought to a table for six I was excited. I wanted to sit at a table with a lot of people because I'm better in group settings and our last cruise we sat with one other couple. It was a bit awkward for me. Alas, this evening, we ended up dining alone, but more on that later.

Now, the Glory has the new American Table menus. I was pretty bummed about that initially because I hadn't read very good things about it on this site. But, I hadn't read good things about the old menu prior to our first cruise either, and the food was great. So, I went in with an open mind, and was pleasantly surprised.

The food was good. Yes, the menu was lacking some of my favorite items, but I didn't have an entrée I didn't like (which I did on our last cruise), the portions were smaller which was great because we never left hungry or stuffed to the gills. Menu was a tad confusing because there was a list of sides to order and some of the meals came with sides and some didn't. Our waiter suggested ordering sides just to be on the safe side, so we did for each meal. I didn't mind the lack of tablecloths (but they were there on Elegant Evening), and I really liked having a carafe of water and the bread basket on the table. I think it lighten the load for the servers, and I drink a lot of water but my glass never went empty.

The food was good enough that we forgot to take pictures of everything because we dove right in!

And now it's time for me to make dinner here, so I'll pick this back up soon!

  15. We decided to get our lunch before the lines got too long, and since we're not huge fans of the buffet (except for the salad bar!), we opted for Guy's Burgers for me and Blue Iguana for Jeff.

Cheeseburger with bacon, mushrooms, carmelized onion, shaved lettuce, pickles, ketchup, and mayo! Makes my mouth water!

I think Jeff got a chicken and pork taco. I didn't have any tacos or burritos on this trip but I did on our last and they were good!

Since we were officially on vacation and we like to eat, we decided to get a couple slices of pizza after our "first lunch". Sorry, no picture :(

I can't speak of the "old pizza" because I never had it, but I really like Pizza Pirate. It's thin, crispy crust, just the right amount of grease, and fresh. Pepperoni is the best if you ask me.

After pizza we headed back to our cabin to see if our luggage was there to unpack. Since it was, Jeff sat out on our balcony while I played the part of Unpacking Extraordinaire! This is one of the other reasons I love FTTF. We took pictures of the ship, got lunch, got our luggage unpacked, and had time for a nap before muster.

We were dreading muster because we our last drill was not so pleasant. It was hot, humid, we were stuck in the back, lots of crying children, and it took forever! This time, not so bad. This time it was pretty quick and painless, no one cried, and it was pretty cool where we were standing. I was already thrilled to be cruising in the spring instead of the fall. The humidity really got to Jeff and I last time, April was much more comfortable.

After muster we headed to our balcony for Sail Away, which was nice because being aft facing, we got to see both sides of the port, and it was quite peaceful. Just us and our neighbors.

*Note: If you cruise in an aft facing balcony, you will get to know your neighbors because the dividers are slanted and you see them a lot.

Lots of people on the beach

  16. We didn't really see many more people while we were exploring the ship, and truth be told that's one of my favorite things about FTTF. Since we'd had breakfast at our hotel and weren't terribly hungry yet, we like to roam he ship while everyone else is on Lido.

After spending a fair amount of time checking out our new home, we decided to head up to Lido and grab a bite to eat after taking some more pictures.
