  1. Good afternoon all,

I will be sailing into Cozumel at the end of this month and Celebrity offers an excursion for a clear kayak/snorkel adventure at Playa Uvas beach. My 7 year old really wants to do this and thinks it would be wonderful to go in a clear kayak. I can't find too much information on these boards about this tour or about Playa Uvas beach. Can anyone advise me about this tour? Is it age appropriate for a 7 year old. I don't think that he would do the snorkeling, he would be happy staying either in the kayak or on the beach/playing in the shallow water at shore. How about the beach? Will it be open by the end of this month? My 7 year old's second choice for a tour is the San Gervasio/Playa Mia beach excursion. Would this tour be more age appropriate for him?

Any info would be much appreciated. Thank you! :)

    Erin

I don´t want to be accussed of monolizing this question but I am going to answer it anyway!

Erin, I called the manager of this tour and asked if it would be up and running for next week. He said yes it would and that it would be in the same location out at Uvas (it is the beach club that is located just north of Chankanaab). I would think that this would be a great tour for a 7 year old...adventure, nature and water. They brought in sand to fill in the beach. I have recommended Uvas beach club as a nice alternative for those looking for a smaller, more quiet spot...very chic and hip. There is a small pool and cool loungers. It is not the wild, party atmosphere. The food is fabulous!

The San Gervasio and Playa Mia tour would be good if he is more into history...the ruins are pretty neat and small enough not to tax the attention span of kids.

  2. Travel time isn´t worth it in my opinion...takes approx. 40 minutes on the tender to get to Playa, then another hour 15 minutes to Cancun, then another 25 minutes to get to Isla on another tender. It is just a small island. More and better in Cozumel.

  3. Oh please do not rent a scooter here! Yes, you can rent them all over the place here. Yes, they look fun. Yes, you see lots of people doing it. But I am tired of sugar coating warnings about why not to rent scooters here...maybe I should just scan the local daily papers that shows the graphic pictures of accident scenes (yes, they publish photos of dead people in the paper here, not of the victims from far away and covered up but close ups). I can seriously say that not a day or two goes by that I don't see an accident involving a tourist on a scooter (one day I saw 4 accidents in less than an hour). I've seen accidents where arms and legs are going directions that they shouldn't, tourists laying in the street covered in blood, tourists being taken to jail for scooter accidents like hitting people crossing the street. I also knew someone's girlfriend who was basically decapitated about 3 years ago on a scooter here. Even if you are an experienced moto rider, it's not the same here. Our roads are terrible with potholes, speedbumps, one way streets, crazy speeding taxi drivers, stop signs that are just suggestions, missing stop signs, gravel, and whoa...if it rains, watch out! I'll step off my soapbox now. Renting a scooter here just isn't worth the risk.
