  1. We're the "slightly less older" couple ( everyone is sat opposite their partner)

PS the youngster at the bottom had pushed his chair back from the table opposite to be included. An early example of photo bombing.

That's sooo funny! When we had our picture taken there was a guest that stood up and did the bunny ears, or peace sign in the background! None of us noticed it till we got our printed picture and we were like, "who is that guy?" [emoji19]

  2. I have a friend who does 3 or 4 cruises a year often invited to share the captains table. The selection process varies from ship to ship.

He recounted a story where he and his wife were having a coffee on the promenade when a young lady officer stopped to inquire about their cruise. They talked for awhile and she asked if they had every had dinner at the captains table. They admitted that they had done so fairly frequently. The officer explained that one of her duties was to locate passengers to join the captain. She was looking for well dressed passengers who communicated well and who would have proper manners.

He also mentioned that he suspected there might be an exchange of information on passengers to select (or not select) that was shared with other ships.

Personally, we would decline an invitation. We're just not into that sort of thing.

Nice! That kinda sounds like what happened to us. I apparently caught the eye of the officer and we chatted with him a bit in the windjammer where the captain was having breakfast. He then invited us over to meet the Captain. a few days later we got the invite hand delivered to our room.

It may not be your thing but my husband and I enjoyed it and I got to sit right next to the Captain! :D would LOVE to do it again! IT's a very elegant and fancy dinner. And the Captain and officers were very nice and had interesting conversations.

  3. Yes they do occasionally have dinner by special invite with an officer or two and sometimes the captain. The invite rules are not too clear. Sometimes Diamond, Diamond+ or Pinnacle. Sometimes premium suite guests. Sometimes random passengers. When we have been invited it has been that combination of guests.

Good to know! When we were invited it was mainly from an officer of the ship.

  4. Hi y'all!

Back in 2014 my husband and I were invited to have dinner with the Captain of the ship. IT was a wonderful experience and was the highlight of our cruise that year! I was just wondering, while packing for our next adventure, do they do that anymore? We haven't been going to the dining room much so we haven't seen the table set up at all since that one year. I thought someone would know here.

    Thanks! :D

  5. We will be on the 8-night sailing of FOS beginning this Saturday. However, we have a quick question. Not a deal breaker or major issue one way or another, but just curious.

A few weeks ago we booked the VOOM Surf & Stream package with a 30% discount. However, we have been hearing of an additional Diamond discount (1-day/24 hours?) that may be available onboard. Does any one have any first hand experience with having the Diamond discount applied to the prepurchased package? Is it allowed? My assumption is Guest Services should be able to take care of this once we are onboard?

    Hi Sue!

I'm in the same boat as you and was wondering this as well. Looking at the date here I see that y'all have already cruised. What did you end up doing? I am looking for and can't seem to find is how much is the Voom plus streaming sold for on board?

  6. I agree with the poster above. Make sure you tell them in the MDR you are gluten free and usually the head waiter comes and talks to you. I would be handed the next days dinner menu to order ahead of time so that they can prepare my meal special.

Also, I got to order GF pancakes or the GF french toast (my fave) for breakfast the next morning. Aaaaaand I would always order a GF pizza for lunch right there to enjoy in the windjammer on the next sea day. It has been a hit or miss. A couple of times is was amazing and one time not so much. But YES you can order your very own GF pizza how you want it but a message needs to be sent so they are aware and prepared for you. It's the head waiter that will notify them. IT does take some waiting but definitely worth it!

Also, you can ask for gf cookies in the promenade caffe.

Didn't know about the flourless cake but I will definitely be ordering that in about a week! ;-)

Royal is very good about taking care of my Gluten allergy and will go above and beyond so that I can enjoy my cruise.

No worries and enjoy your cruise!

  7. Payment is taken immediately (or as fast as they can possibly get it) after you book.

    LOL Bob! That is true!

@kimmy_bos, We have ordered the packages before and had to tell the server about our package then they would put on the sticker. It's never been on our sea pass at check in. :( Maybe it's because we were Gold? ha

  8. Hi all! We just got back from our cruise and noticed this time they did a one sheet print out of the old coupon booklet. I was happy about it being as the cruise before it was only "connected" on our sea pass and we didn't know what discounts we got.

Our upcoming cruise we will be Platinum members so I was wondering if anyone has a list of all the C&A discounts for their room. One member told me that there was one for the drink packages and was wondering how much the discount was.

We did the premium package and loved it. We would like to purchase it again for the next cruise.

    Thanks for any info!

  9. That is so funny that you said that! I just booked that room for our cruise in April 2015! There are lots of posts about that one room on this forum. It's a prime room from what Ive read. Would love to read your review when you're done with your cruise. When are ya going?
