  1. None of ours was, we walked on with it and stored it in our stateroom.

We could have drank it but just saved it for home.

Same here. We took our alcohol right to the stateroom. That may have been because it was an all-inclusive cruise.

  2. That is a matter of opinion. The 7 year old Havana Club is a decent rum for sipping. I have seen it rated above the Maestro in some instances. The 3 year old blanco belongs in a glass with Coca-Cola.

The 7-year-old Havana Club is fantastic. Best I’ve ever had.

  3. We just returned today and brought back several bottles of Havana Club rum (one bottle per person). We kept it with us when we brought it back on the ship, no questions. Then, going through US customs they simply asked "did you make any purchases?". We said ,"some rum" and the agent gave us our passports back and said "have a nice day". Easy peasy [emoji846]

I brought back 3 bottles of Havana Club. Customs agent didn’t even ask any questions. Just looked at my passport and said welcome home.

  4. That's exactly what we want to do. Thanks for your information. Was that 22 CUC each way or round trip?

It was 22 CUC for the whole deal. Lots of negotiating. At one point the driver and guide said that wasn’t enough and we kept on walking. Moments later, the guide motioned to us to come on. It was a 1948 pink DeSoto and we had a blast.

  5. I don't see any recent thread regarding time to complete Cuba immigration and exchanging money.

I'm envisioning 1000 people getting off the cruise ship at the same time. I'm sure they've gotten efficient at doing it quickly, but can anyone give me an idea of how long this takes?

Our cruise ship gets in at 8AM. If we get off pretty quickly, should we be ready to tour by 10AM?

It doesn’t take that long. We arrived on the Norwegian Sun in May and were on the streets of Havana by 8:30. Took very little time to get through immigration and customs.

  6. Got premium seats through Tropicana’s web site. We took a taxi from the Hotel Nacional to the Tropicana. Took a taxi from Tropicana back to the cruise terminal. They are readily available.

  7. I guess it depends on what you prefer. We enjoyed the Tropicana. The dancers were phenomenal. They gave us 2 bottles of rum and some champagne. Definitely book it on your own and not through the ship.

  8. Once you clear customs and immigration, leave the terminal, hang a right, start walking and start negotiating. My girlfriend and I got a convertible taxi for 22 CUC. Took us to Fusterlandia, waited while we visited and then dropped us off at the Hotel Nacional.

  9. I'm trying to book a private tour, and the response I got from the tour company says: "We have had reports that it can take a number of hours to clear customs on arrival in Cuba and disembark the ship. You should take this into consideration when booking a tour with us."

I arrive in Havana via Royal Caribbean at 8am. Tour starts at 9am. Is this feasible? Does it really take hours to get off the ship?

We were on the Sun last week. Didn’t book any excursions through the ship and were on the streets of Havana by 8:30.

  10. Pre-arranged with OldCarTours is better because they have English speaking guides (yes, an added cost to the tour, but WORTH it). The cars outside the terminal (and people on CC have stated likewise) is a little less expensive, but the driver doesn't speak English and it's just a ride around in the car.

Not necessarily. We got a 3-hour ride in a pink convertible for 22 CUC total. The guide spoke English.

  11. Yes that is right People walked off ship and just got a cab or classic car and went off on there own . I am not saying that going with a stranger is for you or any one else but on the board there are a few that people have used so if you are worried about using unknown I would suggest using one that someone has used , There is a huge souvenir building somewhat near the ship if that is what you are looking for also . Anything else just post

We were on the Sun’s first voyage to Cuba from Port Canaveral. Did not book any excursions. Just walked off the ship and did our tour. Found plenty of old convertible taxis wanting our business. We negotiated a price that was much, much cheaper than anything the ship offered.
