  1. Shame on RC.  The Icon of the Seas has the same old Assistive Listening Devices that they've used forever and doesn't work.

Thought they might have eglasses or something better than the Infared system.

Anyone had any success on any ship with ALD's?

  2. travellovers2: There are six shows that you will want to make reservations for:

    1. Hairspray

    2. Flight

    3. Ice show

    4. Aqua Theater show

    5. Headliner

    6. Comedy Club

That takes care of six out of seven days of your cruise!!!

P.S. You saw Hairspray on the Oasis. That was before the fall of 2014. Since then, the Broadway show has been Cats.

Great vital info. Just got the brainstorm today to go on a Symphony cruise at the end of November. Think I'm too late to get reservations for the above shows which I am told go fast. These shows are the reason I want this big ship. Also can I be a piggy and book the comedy club twice (I know I know the answer is now but I can hope).

  3. Princess has finally agreed to provide CART for our November cruise! Wanna come, FAD??

And anyone else who needs captioning for the shows???

Boy don't know where I've been but YES would love to go on this cruise if it's not too late.

  4. Shoeper if your group ever goes on another trip, especially if it's on one of the larger ships, would love to join you. A NO you can't do that is understandable but a YES would be a joy. My husband and I are very nice people.

  5. Would also like to know the answer to this questions. Went on RC's Allure and just loved the large productions shows. Thought a small ship like the Westerdam's shows would be boring (so much singing and dancing). The only reason I am even considering the Westerdam is that I heard that they ave a good Assitive Listening System for the Hard of Hearing.

    TY

  6. Thanks CC. I was so hoping that you found a cruise line that had a good Assistive Listening system for the shows but glad you had a nice time.

Hubby is really wants to go on a cruise so guess I'll just have to go on one and cry during the comedy show :).

  7. I also recently got a Cochlear implant (activated end of August) and went to a broadway-style musical show last Saturday. I had no problem following the show with just the CI (though I must admit was familiar with the songs from years ago).

Not sure what accessories you have. I had my remote and mini mic2+ with me. I could have tried the Telecoil setting using the remote, or could have set the mini mic+ on telecoil to stream directly to the implant.

So that’s what I plan to do on our cruise in early January.

Caribbean Chris were you able to hear the shows on the cruise in January?

  8. Thanksto all the information and support from my local and the national Hearing Loss Assoc I finally, after15 yrs of thinking about it, did get a CI and I am so pleased I did because thesound is so much stronger.

Andat one time the Assistive Listening Devices (the mini mike, phone clip. etc) onlytransmitted to the Ci but now the ALD’s transmit to both the CI and the hearingaid which is an invaluable additional sound enhancement. The ALD’s don’t work as well with everyone, inevery situation, you might not be able hear some (many) of the comedy orinteraction shows and maybe not all of the people at your dining room table butit’s a 1000% improvement over just using a hearing and you should definitely gofor it and by all means go for the trip. You will never know what you are missing if you don’t go.

Mustadd that the surgery was so easy and the next day care non-existent.

  9. thanks you all for your interesting Replies.

Caribbean Chris & Taters would you be kind enough to give a report on your hearing experience on the cruises you will be taking. As I said it's the comedy shows and the audience participation shows that break my heart so enjoyable for others but a sad dud for me.

  10. just got a Cochlear Implant think it will enable me to hear the comedy shows and the audience participation on the larger ships. Thinking not but hoping yes.

The FM amplification ALD's I've used on previous cruises didn't work well too much buzzing etc..

  11. Where does RC's Allure dock?

Carnival usually docks at Havensight which is also called WICO. It is about 1.5 miles to the town of Charlotte Amalie and is paved sidewalk all the way. Take the shortcut through Yacht Haven Grande.

Blackbeard's Castle tour is a great way to revisit history. Tickets may be sold on your ship, or you can purchase direct. Check their website for schedule.
