Does the ultimate WiFi “sell out” ? I just called NCL and the lady said I had to buy the package onboard for the upgrade. But she also said sometimes it sells out! I’m on a thanksgiving week sail and we need WiFi for work all week. It’s selling At $206 online, would it be $230 ish onboard then? Wondering if I should just buy it now at $206? To be safe?

Also ncl rep said the price for things like the bottle water package would be the same online and onboard? She also told me to wait until onboard to book spa pass?!? I know those sell out! Any ideas why she was so pushing to wAit until onboard? I said I wanted to buy now and have them charge my acct when we board but she said anything I buy on the phone today would need to be charged today? I’ve heard conflicting info on that.

We just got back from the Gem. I was able to upgrade for $55 to unlimited which you really need as the 250 minutes get sucked up waiting for things to load.  It was one device but able to share. Though by Wed we were both able to be on at the same time. Not sure why.

@taximom00 - quick answer is yes (also see screenshot #1 in post 4 above)

You can shared multiple devices on any of the WiFi/social media plan, registered & activated - but, one device only can be logged in at any given time.  The next log-in at the same time will get a prompt / alert - that someone else is signed on and will be dropped/bumped if you proceed.

Being on a timed/metered plan by the minutes or MB (non-unlimited) - follow instructions, basic details above also, to logout after each use to stop the running meter, as 4 hours or 250 minutes will not last.

Thanks! 20 year old pretty responsible so I'm sure she will remember to log out.  Just trying to decide unlimited vs 250.  Thoughts??

It works fine BUT, make sure that you purchase the pre cruise package for passenger #2, because the 250 minutes are going to be assigned to passenger #1

I thought the 250 minutes could be shared  between devices?? I was just on the NCL site trying to decide btwn 250 and unlimited but was def going to share between two phones.  It's me and my 20 year old daughter....whose needs for wifi are greater than mine, though I'd like to be able to check email daily and the requisite few social media posts :-)

Hi T-Mom.  According to the diagrams of the ship, the 5th deck is all portholes, and oceanview windows.   5066 Sits just forward of the mid ship elevators, right between the 5th and 6th lifeboat and 3 decks down, which puts your stateroom right about smack-dab center ship.  But since the only obstructions don't even start until the 8th deck where the lifeboats sit, just above Promenade, there's nothing outside your window but sea.

Thank you! I knew someone would know how to figure this out.

Hopefully it will be a good room!!

It is easy to get a taxi. There are also the $7 pp each way minibuses that have been mentioned. You would save some money with only 2 people if you take those instead of a taxi. They do rent snorkel gear at Horseshoe but it is not that much of a snorkeling beach.

    Thanks!

Just returned from our cruise to Bermuda, visited 2 beaches while there. Our ship docked at the Royal Naval Dockyard - from there it was super easy to board a minbus to Horseshoe for $7 pp each way. Mind you this was on a Sunday afternoon and the ship I was on was the only one docked that day. We did not rent any chairs or umbrellas at Horseshoe, although there seemed to be plenty.

Instead we walked left once we arrived at the beach and kept walking. There are huge rock formations to the left and if you walk a bit (away from the crowds), you can find beach areas that are less crowded even with shade since the rocks cast a shadow onto a bit of beach. We sat on beach towels and enjoyed the beach and water from that vantage point. The fellas snorkeled and saw quite a bit of fish out towards the coral that jutted out of the waters. I cannot attest to snorkel rental since we brought our own - I don't care how they "clean" rental items such as snorkels, I'm not personally cool with that but you decide what works for you.

Overall Horseshoe is a GORGEOUS beach with some of the best sand I've even seen. We did not do any pricey excursions to Horseshoe as it was super easy to board a minibus and easy to get there. We also used taxis when we had less choices - but knowing what I know now, will avoid those in the future whenever possible. I noticed their meters were set to $5 and change immediately upon sitting in the cab - and we didn't even go anywhere yet, haha.

    Thank you!

  7. First time on NCL and can't seem to find out about our room.  Saw the deck plan and see it's mid ship but curious if it's a full view or obstructed.  Thanks for any assistance you can give!

Very excited.  We leave this Friday and just got our room assignment today as we did the Sailaway rate.

    Thanks!

The prices are not cheap but I don’t agree that the prices are extortion prices. If you want Caribbean prices go to the Caribbean where you will be bothered every five minutes to buy something. Everything costs more in Bermuda. It is an upscale destination. Also none are forced to rent chairs or umbrellas. You can sit on a towel or bring your own chairs. You have a choice, the beach is free, you can rent or not so there can’t be extortion. I was at Horseshoe two days in June, rented a chair and umbrella on both days. The line was not very long.

we leave on friday! plan on going to horseshoe one of the days, renting chairs and umbrella.  can you also rent snorkel gear here?

any other suggestions? our first time (well my second...first was 25 years ago!) going this cruise with my 20 year old daughter.

not doing an excursion to horseshoe bay...easy to get a taxi, right?

    thanks!

  10. We are sailing on the Norwegian Gem out of Boston next Friday!

It was a last minute decision and we haven't booked any excursions.

We were looking at the Crystal Cave tour (I think that's what it's called) but it seems that it might be easier (and less expensive) for us to go on our own.

Has anyone gone on their own? If so, how did you get there?  Maps say it's about 45 minutes.

    Thanks for any advice!

Also, any other suggestions (or advice about the Gem!), would love to hear!!

@taximom00 If you're booking a large party (6 or more) then making reservations in the MDR on the Gem isn't a bad idea.  If it's just two of you then just show up whenever you wish; that's the beauty of Freestyle & why we cruise NCL.  Peak dinner hours on the Gem were between 615 & 8PM when we last sailed aboard her.

We miss the Gem a lot as we've been cruising on the 'Away class ships for the last few cruises.  The great thing about the Jewel-class ships (of which Gem is one) is that they have the Spinnaker Lounge up on Deck 13 where they have the comedy shows,  the NCL-specific shows like The Quest, Not-So-Newlywed Game ,Liars Club, etc.  On the 'Away-class those shows are in the Atrium which gets REALLY crowded & isn't really designed for that type of entertainment.

If you like guitar music I HIGHLY recommend Leo.  He plays in the lounges on Deck 6 and sometimes in the Atrium.  The big shows in the main theater are usually at 7 & 9PM & as previous posters have said you do NOT need reservations on the Jewel-class ships for those shows.

Hope you have a great cruise!

Thank you for the show tips. Will be sure to check out the guitarist!

As a post above yours explains, shows are only booked on the 'Away class ships and Epic. You are on Gem. You don't book shows.

OK, thanks...having never cruised NCL and only booking yesterday, I'm not fully up on the classes of ships (therefore don't actually know what class the Gem is).

So what time are the shows on the ships, as I apparently do need to book dinner and want to work that around show times available.

    Thanks.

Get the NCL app for your phone also.  You can make show reservations via the app while you're sitting in the cruise ship terminal waiting to board.  You didn't state where you're embarking from; my experience with the app is based on the NYC cruise ship terminal.  I'm not sure if the app works with reserving for the comedy shows in Headliners; it didn't work for me but others have stated here that it worked for them

Making show reservations via the ncl.com website is very hit-and-miss, IMHO.  Lotsa posters here have stated that the reservations aren't available even within the limits that BirdTravels states above or they'll time out & you have to start all over.   NCL's website could use some work!

On the -away class ships you can just show up (no pun intended!!) w/o a reservation  for the Broadway-type shows in the main theater but you'll be shunted into a different queue and you won't be allowed in until about 10 minutes before show time.  At that point you'll just have to take whatever seats are left.  I wouldn't recommend this for the comedy shows in Headliners as that venue has VERY limited seating (3-400 or so) and as BirdTravels points out those shows fill up VERY quickly.

Good luck with your reservations & have a great cruise!

Just booked last minute on the Gem from Boston to Bermuda leaving 8/2.  First NCL cruise (though have cruised Carnival and Disney...yup...all over the board lol)

New to the Freestyle thing and came on here to ask about dining reservations (the main dining that is included) and what time shows are so I would know when to reserve dining.

I didn't know you had to reserve for shows as well?

As I just booked yesterday, I have a lot to catch up on!

Any advice re how to reserve appreciated!
