  1. Friends of ours are cruising out of Tampa. Embarkation night the homeowner's association is having an election and our friends wish to join the discussion from the ship. The first stop is Key West so I'd suspect the ship doesn't go tremendously far from land. Does anyone have an idea of how long they should be able to keep cell service? I figure they'll keep it until at least the Sunshine Bridge which should take over two hours to reach.

  3. Your bid amounts should be what you are comfortable enough with paying.

Always book a room you'll be happy with and if a bid is won then it's an extra special.

They have til about 48hr out to notify.

You can do a mock booking to see what is available. Depending on ship/cruise you might see those categories as upgradable from your current cabin for what you are bidding.

    Hope that helps. Good luck.

This cruise was sold out except for inside guarantees and for the past week has not even showed up on NCL's website. I have to guess not many upgrades will be available.

  4. I am cruising on the Epic a week from Saturday. We just booked an inside guaranty cabin last week through the casinos at sea program. (I guess I spent a little too much time in the casino on my last cruise.) They gave me the opportunity to upgrade so I put in bids for both a balcony and mini-suite upgrade.

I just looked and my guaranty cabin has changed to a specific cabin. That makes me think that I won't get an upgrade. However, they are still giving me the opportunity to leave my bid as is or modify it. Should I read anything into getting a cabin assignment?

  5. LOL! I just read this thread this morning.

I have a few questions for all the "old hands".

I would like to bring my large screen HD TV. I do not know anything about Direct TV. We have cable at home. Is there a corkage fee for splicing into the Direct TV system? Will the TV fit on the vanity? Because the TV is much larger than a person, will DH and I be charged a 3rd person fee?

    Quick replies are much appreciated.

    1. Unfortunately HAL has not outfitted their ships with Direct TV. You'll have to bring your own dish. Hopefully you have a balcony which will facilitate mounting of the dish.
    2. No Corkage fee unless the TV is brought to the dining room.
    3. TV can fit on the vanity, but you'll less the top of the vanity. Better to bring a mounting bracket & hang it from the wall.
    4. If you hide the TV (they'll never see it if you put it under the 220V generator in your luggage) then no worries about the third person fee.

    Hope this helps.:)

  6. Rusty Nail,

If you bring a crockpot, where do you get the food to cook in it? Not allowed to bring fresh food on board..so is it canned soup and tuna fish and jello? One of the delights of cruising is not having to mess with crock pots.

This is what's so great about CC. Newbies can learn all there is to learn from the more experienced ones. Sign up for the galley tour. Bring a couple of friends and a large bag. When you get to the refrigerated section have your friends ask many questions; the dumber the better (do the cooks sleep on the ship?). When the person giving the tour rolls his or her eyes use that as an opportunity to go into the refrigerator and take what you need. Why not - you paid for the cruise. It's your vacation, you should do what you want.

Another tip - bring a shopping list. This way you won't forget anything.

  7. Marc, No not you????... it was, um, um... VICAR! and Revneal!!!! (shooting those kids off the Aft Lido Deck!)

Yes. I tried to keep it a serious discussion about small kitchen appliances. But as much as I tried to keep them in line, they just wouldn't listen to (un)reason. ;)

  8. I found where Orcrone's been hiding out! On his "backup cruise ship!" He's been holding out on us!

Hey, don't knock it. Embarkation is quick and I never have to take a tender. I couldn't believe they still had formal night.

  9. Too heavy to pack the blender.

TSA won't let us take it in our carry-on.

    Can't take the blender anymore.

Actually I was able to pack my blender in my carry-on bag. However, I couldn't keep more than 3 oz. or liquid in the blender. :D

  10. Unfortunately I have to agree with the other posters. Just because a room is a higher category, does not always mean it is preferable. You seem to have unfortunately experienced this. I never pick guarantees, because there are always higher category rooms I would not be satisfied with.

I hope your TA is able to help you, but in the future I'd recommend picking, and paying for the room you'd be happy with.

  11. I don't think they'll give a lot of bottom time. According to divinggirl, the shallowest dive is the last one. So even if you can get a lot of bottom time the dive master has already been down once or twice and has some nitrogen loading. I would still figure at least 45 minutes. For $69 they should give you a 3000 pound tank and let you have fun.;)

  12. How could I have missed this one??!!!

I have to bring a big bungee cord so we can go bungee diving off the side of the ship. Just better make sure that we properly note which deck for each bungee cord, or we may go dunking instead of bungeeing.

  13. If i may be so bold , I would like to Emcee this whole show. I do a pretty good Ed Sullivan impression.

    Her let me show you.

Ladies and gentlemen right here on our stage we have Orcrone and Skippy, the wrestleing alligator ....

Lets here it for Orcrone and Skippy

    (applause, applause, applause)

How was that? Sounded just like him huh?

I said I'd bring the alligator wrestler. I'm not wrestling any alligators. I have a tough enough time with two teenagers.
