We did not cruise but took a  8 day trip to Aruba last July. We rented all day quads or 4 person razors unguided, it was an amazing day. You can do 1/2 day as well. Place was not far from cruise port.  We circled the entire island from the light house to Baby Beach. Best time ever saw the entire island.

Thanks everyone! After more thought and discussion I went ahead and booked the Thermal Suite couple's pass.  We decided to make the most of that, along with the couples massage!

@gjsmth It's under Spa in your booking, try looking under relaxation.

Were you abke to book week couples thermal pass ahead of time?

Tried that but it comes up blank all the others like excursions, internet plans, etc I can book.  Maybe to early since our cruise is not till July '22.  Any other help to find.

They might still be taking bookings just in case they can sail plus they get cashflow even if they have to refund the money later.  (I.e., they get interest free loans from passengers.)

I think I read somewhere (although I may be quoting it wrong) that Royal has enough cash to survive the year if cruising starts in the second half.

Also, if they are cash poor when things start up they might cut services/quality and keep the prices high so they can get an initial boost of higher profitability. Then raise quality when people complain.

So why would anyone want to be the first ones back if service will be sub par?  Might be a better idea to postpone till we see what happens

I do not think anyone really knows, not people on the boards, not the government, not the cruise lines.

There are lots of variables that are too hard to navigate.  The variables include when will people get vaccinated (this includes the US and possibly the various possible ports of call), how well will the vaccines work against the new variants (one vaccine company has a study that says only around 50% effective against one of the variants), how fast is the virus mutating, etc.

Personally I do not think this summer is viable however that is just a guess.  I think there is a chance that ships will start cruising by the 4th quarter, but again just a guess.

Also, who knows what the shipboard experience will be like once things do start up. I do not think you can sail at 90% capacity and have effective social distancing on a ship.

Can't figure why RCL or any of the others are accepting bookings and deposits for July '21 cruise if most likely a no go.  Guess will hold off till more clarity comes out, not going to tie up deposit money for uncertainty.  So looking forwrd to getting back out.  Also wonder how much longer lines can survive with prolonged ships idled.

  5. Looking at 7 day Eastern in Middle July.  If cruise lines have not returned to cruising why is it RCL is allowing July bookings? Would you even consider booking July or August '21?  Don't want to plunk down $$ if July '21 is not realistic.  When do you think cruise lines will return to cruising.  Thnx

  6. Cory "looks like Drew Carey" Rogers. Had a great conversation with him one day in the spa and he even pulled our 9yr DS up on stage for his Thriller Dance Lesson show.

  7. We were on the Dream in Aug. and loved the ship. Only negative item was the hurricane cancelled Belize, Roatan and Costa Maya. We had fantastic plans for these islands but never got to do them. Wasn't to thrilled with the Carnival decisions to go to Progresso, Freeport and Nassau, but it is what it was. Now we are looking at trying the same Western route again in July. Oh and DW and I loved the week long Spa package access.

  8.
So, several people on our roll call emailed Silver Moon a month ago about making reservations for their excursion. SM told them they only book 6 months out and to contact them again in a couple of months.

After reading about SM and Calabaza here yesterday, I email both companies (7 months out). SM informed me that their 12 person cat was already sold out, but there was still availability for the 24 person cat. Calabaza still had a few slots available (they only have 1 12 person cat) so I booked with them immediately. We had excellent prompt and professional communication and Gina answered all of my questions. I am really looking forward to our day in Barbados!

I am frustrated with SM, however, for not following their own rules. If they don't book more than 6 months out, they shouldn't be sold out 7 months out! I have a feeling several people on our roll call, especially those who contacted SM a month ago, will be frustrated too.
I'd have to say we looked at both of them on our past Victory cruise and choose Calabaza because of the great communication Gina had. Out of all the Cat. excursions Calabaza was the best. Gina and crew were like family and never hesitated to talk to you, plus her lunch was fantastic.
  9. This is our first time back to RCCL since a number of years ago and I will tell it was a tough decision over Carnival again. We wanted to do the Oasis or Allure but those prices were why higher then cruising the smaller RCCL ships, go figure since there are less ports and they keep you on the ship to spend more money. We are giving it a go for the Splendor because we love the S. Caribbean ports but you are right it is costing us more vs Carnival which we've never had a bad experience with.

  10. This cooler looks great!!

Our friends also use this one from same manufacture on their cruises, a bit bigger but collapses perfectly into luggage and never had a problem.

It seems Walmart does not carry them anymore so you'll have to order them online.

  11. Great thread for we are deciding between Victory Southern or a newer ship Eastern. Victory is 10 years old and don't have a good perspective of what everyone thinks of the ship. Wife wants a newer ship but the Southern itinerary is great. Any more opinions on the over all condition of the ship. Thanks.

  12. I do know that several months ago it was discussed on the boards that the supervisor/manager of Bannister Island was murdered, at that time Carnival pulled this excursion. You still have to use an outside tour operator at this point in time.

Carnival has put the private Island beach break (Bannister Island) back up on their site as of a couple months ago. Coral Breeze is a private tour operator that is also operating the excursion to Bannister Island. HTH
