David Fox is a neighbor of our friends in Bermuda and they recommended him. 3 couples did a 6-7 hour tour with him and he did a great job for us! He will organize a custom tour for you, based upon your preferences. He was at the front of the taxi line with our names on a poster board. His email is: thefox@logic.bm US phone #US (440) 72I-I66I

He has always been prompt to reply.

We just got off the Summit on Sunday! Great ship. Don't miss the warm salt water adult pool!

  2. Glad you found David Fox. He is a neighbor of a family friend in Bermuda whom we contacted when we were there in the spring. Since he's pretty new to the Cruise Critic users, sometimes he has availability on a shorter notice. We enjoyed his local knowledge as well!

  3. I toured with David and had a great day. You could cram another person or two into his van, but the taxis are regulated to a maximum of 6 people. There are taxis available at the pier, but look for one with a blue flag to designate them as a tour operator. If you read previous posts on this site I believe you will find references for some tour bus operators. If you need more than 6, that may be what you need. It may not be as flexible.

  4. What is the rate for private tours ?

The Bermuda Government Taxi Touring Rates are regulated: 1-4 passengers $40.00 per hr. 5-6 passengers $55.50 per hour. (Most drivers drop the 50 cents).

We were there on a Saturday and Sunday. We booked with David Fox (thefox@logic.bm USA phone #(441)334-7965) for a 5 hour tour beginning at noon on Saturday, with two other couples from our ship that we met through Cruise Critic. We were having such a great time that we asked him if we could extend another hour. 6 hours still seemed rushed, as we wanted to have lunch, put our feet in the sand, taste his recommended drink "Dark & Stormy" and shop a little. He has a very new mini-van which was perfectly suited for 6 adults.

Many people have asked if it would be worthwhile on a Sunday. My answer would be YES! Most of the retail establishments on the island are closed Sunday. The Dock Yard shops are all open, but since it pretty much caters to the cruise industry, I would have preferred to browse more in South Hamilton when the shops were open and tour on Sunday if our schedule had allowed.

If I were to do our trip over again, I'd have asked David Fox to do the tour in reverse order and drop us off in South Hamilton so we could shop a bit and catch the Ferry back to the ship. (It is really easy!) Or I'd start out on our tour early on Sunday and done the ferry/shopping on a Monday-Saturday.

All and all, the taxi tour is the way to go if you only have a day or two in port. Otherwise, you miss out on the beautiful homes and points of interest that are not on the public transportation routes!

  5. I'd like to re-recommend David Fox who gave us a great tour back in April. He was recommended by a local and we were very pleased. Since the fares are regulated, they all charge the same rate. He was extremely attentive. Others have used him since, but he isn't highly publicized on this site! You can reach him at thefox@logic.bm

  6. Since September 1 is a Saturday, the ferry to St. George's will probably not be operating. When we were there last week, it was only M-F. The Hamilton Ferry was operating, though, and they had extra runs for the cruise ship. Quite a few people bought a bus pass for the day, which got them to Horseshoe. One person said it took a long time for the bus to come by, though, so check the schedule. While we were on our taxi tour, we met up with a couple that had come by bus all the way to St. George's, so it can be done, too. The advantage of the taxi tour was all the neighborhoods we went through that you won't see on your own.

  7. Some people think 5 hours isn't enough and book 6 hours.

There's no correct answer...you have to look at what your guide suggests and decide what you want to see. Discuss the suggested itinerary with him.

We booked 5 last weekend. The Enchantment was supposed to debark at 11:30, but it was held up until just after 12. David Fox was waiting for us starting at 11, just in case we were early. We drove to Hamilton, spent a half hour wandering around then back in the Taxi. We worked our way to St. George's with only a few brief stops for pictures. Everyone wanted to eat lunch, which we knew would shoot the 45 minutes we had planned to see this little town. So we asked David if his day would allow another hour so we wouldn't be in such a hurry to get back by 5 and he gladly obliged. This gave us time to eat, look around a bit, wind through some elite neighborhoods, put our toes in the sand at Horseshoe Bay, see the lighthouse, and get back to the ship by 6:00. We still wished we'd had more time! 6 hours goes by fast!

  8. I emailed Colin, Duke, and Hollis and haven't heard back from any of them.

A friend in Bermuda recommended Bermuda native, David Fox. He was fantastic and very flexible!

We had booked him for 5 hours, but had him extend to 6, so we could get lunch and a beer. He was first in line at the cruise debarkation point, waiting for us with a sign. We took many side streets, saw residential areas as well as commercial areas. We avoided the places that charged admission and enjoyed stopping, touching, photographing everything. He is thefox@logic.bm (441)334-7965. He called us twice before our April 21 tour to confirm and plan our itinerary. Great service! We shared his year old minivan with two other cruise critic couples at the regulated $55/hour. Hope you enjoy him as much as we did!
