  1. Sorry you are having so many issues. I know you & know you are the calm, carefree cruiser who doesn't let the little things bother you. I don't blame you a bit. The good old days of cruising the Fun Ships are long gone. :( It's sad watching the decline over the last few years.

Hope we can get together soon for a land cruise.

  2. But beware. All drivers do not adhere to these prices. Confirm before you enter the cab.

Be sure & check the board & agree on the price before getting ithe cab.

Coz has a great bunch of people but there are dishonest people everywhere in the world.

  3. neatokimmo: I'm so sorry to read that there were some unfortunate issues with your cruise while staying in on of those forward rooms on Main deck. I've done 2216 (right across the hall) numerous times on Conquest class ships, and I totally know what you mean by those wave 'slaps' that shake the forward rooms. Can be annoying and frightening, I know, but it's due to that curve of the bow creating a angled surface to take a direct hit in rougher seas.

The other situation of the noise heard from the dancers is a case of really unfortunate timing for you. There is no way you could have been aware that a new cast of performers would have just arrived (their very first shows were on the 11/30 sailing) and would still be in daily rehearsals to learn the two additional shows they'd need to know for their contracted months. For that 11/30 sailing, they were rehearsing at bizarre times, including the wee morning hours. That learning curve will soon be over, so the passengers on those cabins won't have the same unfortunate experience you did, or as often as you did. There is an entertainment elevator in that area between 2218 and 2219, and the dancers use it when leaving or entering the theatre from the audience doors (i.e. the parade from the Mardi Gras show "The Big Easy"). So some of that running you heard might not have been totally from above you, but literally right outside your cabin.

I'm glad to read that the purser office did try to do something for you, since I found that particular group of crew member to be quite foolish during my recent sailing.

I was in 2208, second from the front, on Nov 30th sailing. And yes, wave noise was bad but I never heard anything from the show lounge, day or night.

I actually thought the Purser Staff was above average on that cruise compared to others I have seen. Of course I had to change my S&S card five times so maybe that was why.

  4. Hey Ken,

I'm cruising out of Tampa on March 27 and will be coming into Tampa the day before. I got a great deal for the Hilton Tampa Airport Westshore. Any comments about this area and the hotel itself?

    Thanks!

Our CC group stayed there a couple of years ago. Got a great price on priceline for about $50. Nice hotel. Free airport shuttle. Within walking distance of International Mall or shuttle will take you for free. Several places to eat, drink & shop.

  6. Is the balcony that is on the corners (very large), is that one balcony or shared by more than one? Anyone have an answer to that?

It's one balcony & it's awesome. :D Also the two next to it, along the side of the ship are extended balconies. Longer than normal. The divider will open between 6452 & 6450 to make a great place for sailaway.

The second long balcony door blocks the other doorway or we would have all three connecting.

  7. I posted this info over on the New Orleans, Ports of Call section of the boards. Lots of info there.

  8. We'll be flying into New Orleans on Apr 20 the day before our cruise in hopes of doing some sightseeing (and stuffing-faces with cajun cooking! YUM!) weighing the pros and cons of a rental car or some form of pbulic transport.

How far is the airport from the french quarter (where we'll be staying)? About 30 minutes

Price of parking in the French Quarter? Expensive. Usually $20-$30 a night, at hotel or FQ parking lot.

Is there a shuttle/bus that goes from the airport to the french quarter or would we need to taxi? Yes there is. $13 a person. More info located on NewOrleans.com website

If we taxi, how much would a taxi cost from the airport? $28 + fuel surcharge + tip. That is for 1 or 2 people. Additional riders extra.

If we rent a car from the airport, are there car rental places near the french quarter to which we can return the car? None I have noticed. Nola is a walking town. Much easier to take streetcars, etc.

We're travelling with an infant and a 5yr old and LOTS of luggage (mostly mine).

From those who've been in a similar position before in NOLA what do you think is the best/least expensive option for us?

Lots of Nola info listed over in the Ports of Call section of the boards.....where this thread may be moved. Good luck. Hope this answered some of your questions.
