  1. This post has some great info, but still need some advice. I have never sailed from west coast. Will be flying in from east coast.

The best flights home (cost, arrival time, duration) I can find are from LAX at 12:25 or 1:10.  This seems tight to me.  This would be on a Sunday, not a holiday weekend. Long Beach sadly is not an option, flights are either 7AM or late night that arrive next day.

Will there be enough time to get off ship, through customs, to airport, through security and to the gate?

I know you can't predict traffic or airport congestion, just looking for opinion from some one who has done this before. (I have been stuck in LA traffic and that is making me think this won't work)

  2. I'm trying to decide if I pack my puffer jacket or not. Usually once the temps are consistently over 40, I stop wearing it and switch to the 3-in-1 jacket--shell with fleece or lighter weight sweater.  I know no one can predict the weather, but has anyone experienced under 40-degree temps on while on Alaska cruise in June?

  3. I've done a few cruises while on WW and I have lost, gained or stayed the same. Stick with the same things that have brought you success so far. More chicken and fish for dinner, less beef and pasta, load up on veggies, try not to over do the sauces, all things in moderation. Eat fruit. Keep up with the water. I'm not a big drinker so it wasn't hard to limit myself to one or two cocktails a day. Take the steps all the time, go for early morning walks out on deck, maybe hit the gym.

Oh and--stay away from the buffet. Just because the food is always available, doesn't mean it has to always be eaten. 🙂

    Have great time!

  4. we were on Reflection in November. Boarded late. We did not get our champagne and were told it was only available at the other entrance. Huh? We were all a little disappointed, but brought our own on board and had a lovely sail away anyway.

  5. Shorts in MDR on RCI.

I think the outfit sounds really cute and you should be able to wear shorts first night, dress code is relaxed (even though shorts normally are not allowed for dinner).

    Routines

I am on the "natural" side of the middle. I color every 5-6 weeks, cut every other color. The cost is about $120 for both, less for just color.

I only wash my hair every other day, so depending on how it fared overnight, I can spend a 1-2 minutes just brushing it OR 15 minutes running the curling iron through it. Wet days, it's 15 minutes (maybe less, never timed it) to dry it.

On most days, after washing/moisturizer/sunscreen application, I use a little eyeliner, mascara, lipstick and a light dusting of loose powder (usually only in the summer to cut down on the "shine"). For "special" occasions, I add foundation to the mix. Night time: eye make up remover, face cleanser.

  6. Indiana: Our first cruise (only 2 years ago) we booked in February and sailed in April. We didn't even have passports when we booked!

Our second cruise, last year, we had booked about 10 months out. The wait was ridiculous. And now our third cruise, in November, was booked over a year out. I prefer the short lead time. I can't stand the waiting.

  7. TerryD--you look beautiful in all your outfits. And I agree, go with what is comfortable because you look lovely with or with out your wig. But you MUST wear that red hat because it is FABULOUS!

As far as swimming, what if you wore a blouson-type swimsuit like this?

  8. iCruise: you can bring a pashmina on the plane w/you to use as a blanket if your legs get cold (I always have one with me--don't like to use the airline blankets).

White linen capri pants might get very wrinkled after sitting on a plane for a few hours. That never bothers me cause that's the part of the allure of linen, but it's something to keep in mind.

Last June, we flew from CT morning of our Oasis cruise. I wore white denim skirt and turquoise sleeveless top and had my trusty lime green pashmina. Casual and comfy for the plane and the colors made it feel cruise worthy without being over dressed.

HAVE FUN!!! I have to wait until November before I sail again...
