  1. We were lucky enough to get a balcony cabin for next year (our first FPC) by logging in right at 9 a.m. today.  I read on this thread that the usual Elite perks like the happy hour drinks, etc. do not apply since it is a charter.  Does anyone know if any of the Elite perks apply - for instance the 90 minutes of internet or the bag of laundry?

Really looking forward to this cruise especially after reading this thread!!!

  2. I am searching for a hotel for 2 nights pre-cruise in Amsterdam in August.  We would like to stay somewhere close to the city Centre.  The choices are overwhelming!!  I am currently looking at the Pension Homeland and the DoubleTree as possibilities.  The Pension Homeland is much less expensive, but the reviews I have read are mixed.  It appears that there is no air-conditioning and it may be a bit further from the center.  Do any of you have any experience with either of these hotels or other recommendations?  We would like to stay under $250.00 per night, but that may not be possible.  Some of the other recommendations I have seen here (Banks Mansion, Movenpick, etc.) are over $300 per night for that time of year.

    Thank you in advance.

  3. We just got off the Constellation as well and I agree.  The food was among the best we have encountered on Celebrity.  We thought the Mexican selections as well as the grill selections were good in the Oceanview café, but this was probably personal preference.

  4. I can't answer for UA, but Delta also sells Basic Economy seats (including on some international itineraries) that cannot be upgraded through any means. So again, something to watch for if booking via Choice Air. DL's BE seats also do not allow seat selection prior to 24 hours before flight.

Do you know how to determine if a ticket on Choice Air is Basic Economy vs. regular Economy that can be upgraded?

We've only used Choice Air once for a one-way ticket to Chile. Their (CA) non-stop flight from Miami was $800 compared to $3300 on LAN's website. We flew Economy and did not try to upgrade or change anything so all went well. This time, we are looking for round trip to Rome (from Orlando) in late October and would like something a bit more comfortable. We've been looking at options, but the choices as well as things to consider are a bit overwhelming.

  5. I compared prices and it was considerably lower to book economy and then do the upgrade with the airline. Not sure if that is the case with all flights/fares and the United web site didn't allow me to upgrade to business. I might call United directly and see what they say about that.

    Thanks for your reply.

  6. Just go onto Choice Air and check the 3 prices, i.e. Economy, Economy +, and Business. Then call the airline direct and ask how much to upgrade. On Delta last year to Barcelona from Atlanta, I booked Choice Air, then went into the website and it prompted me to see if I wanted to upgrade to Economy + for $99.

    Thanks. I'll try that.

  7. Thanks for all of the replies.

I did go back and look at the terms of the sale and it says not combinable with senior, resident and loyalty. I'm guessing that the Captain's Club upgrade is considered "loyalty." The perks are so much better than anyone else is offering, so I'm not going to worry about the upgrade and just enjoy the perks!!

  8. I booked with this agency earlier in the week. I have used them multiple times in the past and never had any problems with getting promised perks. However, I see that a couple of you have stated that you were able to combine your captain's club one-category upgrade with the perks from the firecracker sale. When I e-mailed the agent I am dealing with, I was told that the upgrade was not combinable with the other promotion.

I booked a 2B, so thought I should get the 2C price (or an upgrade to a 2A, but would prefer to keep the 2B cabin).

Have any others tried to combine the upgrade with the promotion and if so, what was the result?

    Thanks.

  9. My husband and I are doing a Gate 1 tour in September that includes 7 nights on the Sound of Music. The information sent to us with our documents indicates that shorts are not allowed in the dining room on the ship. Do you know if this is the case for breakfast and lunch or just for dinner? My husband prefers shorts for daily excursions and it would be nice for him to not have to change several times. He definitely would NOT wear shorts to dinner!!

Also, could you tell me what toiletry items are provided and whether or not wash cloths (or face cloths as the Europeans call them) are provided on the ship. I know they are not provided in many European hotels so we plan to take some "disposable" ones and are just trying to figure how many we need?

    Thanks!

  10. My husband and I are booked in a C2 on the Infinity. Recently, three FV's on deck 8 became available. It would have been an additional $700 for the two of us. While we would have loved the huge balcony, especially since our cruise has several sea days, we were concerned that the FV may be noisy since the ones above and below likely have 5 people in them. I have also read on CC about people having "get togethers" on their balconies since they are so large - one post discussed how many people you could fit on your balcony. This could also add to the noise factor. Can anyone who has stayed in one of the FV's on the M-class ships comment on this? We are looking for a fairly quiet relaxing time on our balcony (not so much that others can't talk while on their balcony...but that's another story!!!) We decided to stay put for now and of course, the FV's were snapped up right away. I just would like to be more informed should the opportunity present inself in the future.

  11. We wore swimsuits to the Persian Garden, but also saw people fully-dressed in street clothes or in their robes. Oh I miss that place.........

That's good to know. In October on the Reflection, my husband and I were in Aqua class and went to the Persian Garden one day dressed in shorts and t-shirts. They would not let us in. Said we had to wear swimsuits, not street clothes. We only wanted to relax on the loungers for a few minutes, but were told to come back in swimsuits.
