  1. Marianne, we loved meeting you and Herb on the Transpacific cruise a few years ago. We still talk about you both as a couple of the nicest cruisers we have ever met. The Bora Bora excursion was a lot of fun.

    ~Patti & Bill :)

Thanks Patti & Bill!!!! Bora Bora excursion was really fantastic. (Unfortunately I mostly remember the native in his native costume! :o:D )

I have a horrible memory. I have often thought that it would be nice if everyone wore a name tag. At least I now can call SOME people by their names!

Totally agree with you on the names.... the memory isn't what it use to be.. :(

  2. Thanks, I figured this may be the case for those of us that notice such things. I will have to just do my best to avoid such spots.

Did you notice the smoke on deck 4 centrum or only above deck 6?

Did you notice the smoke at all in the pub or in the colony club where I believe there is a smoking 'area'?

I have been told on other threads that once Radiance leaves Hawaii for her repositioning back to Sydney that they apply Australian smoking rules?? That would make sense as it would give them 17 days to 'air out' the ship so the inside smoke smell dissipates by the time she arrives in Aus.

Fingers crossed this is correct as that means only 7 days in Alaska & 10 in Hawaii that I will have to avoid the smokey areas, with a week in Canada in between to give my sinuses a rest.

Yes I hope you are right, that once they leave Hawaii and head to Australia, they will stop the indoor smoking. I love Australia's non-smoking rules! (Of course this is from someone who does become ill due to smoking.)

I wish I could have been more specific about the areas of non-smoking onboard the Radiance and which areas were worse and/or better. Unfortunately, I had another issue on this past cruise - chemicals. Last year when we were onboard Radiance I didn't have too much problems with chemicals, but this year they have changed what they are using and are now using some type of "Febreeze" type product. Not necessarily the name brand, but something of the sort. Out of our 11 day cruise, I felt good 2 days, and forced myself out of the room 4 of the 11 days. (My cabin was my sanctuary. My husband went and got me food.) I even had them put a fan outside my room to keep the smell of the chemicals and fragrance away from my room. (I always have had problems with perfume and have had issues with formal night - but this was the worse I have ever been in all of our cruising.) I can only hope for your sake that the smoke will not bother you. I would not wish my experience on anyone else. (And this is coming from someone who loves Royal Caribbean.)

Best of luck to you. The Radiance and crew are great. (I just wish corporate would get rid of those gosh darn harsh chemicals.)

  3. Have been on Radiance and I am highly allergic to cigarette smoke also. I do have to warn you... that you can smell the smoke (at times) coming from the casino... almost anywhere in the Centrum. I have walked from our room on Deck 10 (casino is on Deck 6) and when I got to the centrum on Deck 10 I could even smell the cigarette smoke. Again, this does not happen all the time... but it will happen when the casino is busy. Best of luck to you. (I agree - I loved it when the Radiance was in Australia. NO SMOKING inside!)

  4. Sorry I'm so behind, still trying to get my feet back on the ground after my one and only daughter's wedding...and she was my youngest....waaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I thought I saw some tears on this post. Don't forget - you gained a son. Did she stay living in your area?

  5. That's really nice that dad takes his daughter cruising a lot :D :)

OMG.... LMAO!!!! Wait until I show this to Herb!!!!:D

Thanks Steve for posting the picture.

We will be onboard the Explorer of the Seas on the Member Cruise with Mario.... so I can post after that cruise as to how many points he has. I can only attest to the fact that he has more than 500.

Oh - thanks everyone for the nice comments.

  6. Gina,

Since Captain Sindre has an extended time home, will they do 10 week rotations after he returns or will he have an extended rotation? I am trying to figure out who may be our captain for the June 21, 2013 sailing.

    Thanks!

    Mary Anne

I know that Sindre will be onboard for the June 21st sailing. Then he will be leaving on June 28th. (I believe he gets onboard April 9, 2013.)

Like this idea.... :D oh, that's right... you do like to keep some things private. Oh well!

    See you in December!

  8. So sorry to hear about your friend.

Had a great time seeing you last week. (But gosh darn it, there were a few days when we forgot to watch the morning show.... thought of it around 2pm. They say the memory is the first thing to go...:o:()

    Have a great vacation.

You are our cup of tea and can't wait to see you again in December!

  9. Any chance that we can have this info at the top of the list of Current Captains?

"The captains usually rotate 10 weeks on/10 weeks off, although they can make arrangements between each other as long as they are not on longer than 14 weeks or less than 8 weeks."

Thanks a bunch. I so totally appreciate the work you do on this Board!

  10. anyone know when Capt Lis returned to Vision? A friend of mine (a former maitre 'd) had lunch with the maitre 'd when the ship was in his/her hometown and said Capt Lis was on.

I had an email from her that she was onboard 1/6/12... which means that she'll probably be getting off soon if she's keeping the 10 on/10 off rotation.
