This sounds perfect! May I ask if you reserved day passes ahead of your visit, or did you just show up? Also did you bring your own towels? Were lounges and umbrellas included? What hours is the day pass available?
The beach area looks lovely but small--any concerns that we wouldn't be able to find a shaded spot for 4 adults?
We'll be in Curacao in early February and looking for a nice day pass hotel. Thanks!
I found the Avila Resort on Facebook and messaged through there. I think there is also an email you could use. They do like you to book ahead just to make sure the resort isn’t too full. We had no trouble finding an umbrella/lounge chair near the pool or on the beach but we got there in the morning. Here is the info they sent to me:
The regular day pass (Nafl. 25 / $15 adults & Nafl. 15.00 / $9 kids 4-12)
Beach access
Pool access
Access to beach chairs and umbrellas
Usage of stand-up paddle boards
Usage of reef safe sunscreen
General:
- Reservation has to be in advance.
- Daypass is from 8am till 6pm.
- Payment is upon arrival by the front desk
- During your daypass you can buy food and drinks at our restaurants and bars. Our restaurants and bars are cashless.- 1

I didn’t see anyone snorkelling when we were there but when I was swimming I walked along the edge by the rocks and I could see lots of fish! 🐠

We went to the Avila Beach Hotel - walked there from the port (about a 35 minute walk) and took a taxi back to the ship ($20). It was $15 each for the day which included wifi as well as lounges/umbrellas around the pool and on the beach. You could buy food and drinks if needed. Nice small resort with a refreshing pool and two small beaches as well as wifi to catch up at home - just what we were looking for! 🏝️

I don’t know if this helps but we brought free rapid tests from home and used Azova ($20 U.S. each) for the tele monitoring part. We sailed MSC out of Genoa, Italy on May 14 and had no problem at all.

Thank you Guest 2000. I will do my best to enjoy. Should be pretty easy. So glad that water shoes are not needed.
Soft sand, crystal clear water. Roatan is beautiful!

HAL should have checked into the situation and given the passengers an explanation about what happened at Amber Cove.
I was also on this cruise and totally understand that it was an unprecedented hurricane season. But as with anything in life, communication is key. If HAL really did not know about the situation at Amber Cove ahead of time, we would have appreciated some type of announcement or explanation on board. I also think if the original itinerary hadn’t changed so drastically and we hadn’t missed Nassau on top of that, Amber Cove wouldn’t have seemed so frustrating. Thank goodness for beautiful Half Moon Cay and the terrific food, service and surroundings on the Nieuw Amsterdam!

We were also on this cruise and really enjoyed the ship - Food, service, room - everything was great. As others have said, the replacement ports were not our choice but we figured we could enjoy a day around the pool at Amber Cove. I really thought the fellow was joking when he said HAL guests were denied entry to the pool area. Apparently the Salsa Cruise had booked this venue a year ago. Someone definitely dropped the ball on this one - I suppose because it was a replacement port the Nieuw A wasn’t originally scheduled to be there. If we had known ahead we might have booked an excursion as there was nothing at that port other than a few shops. HAL did not address the mixup whatsoever on board. Despite some port frustrations we were lucky to be on a beautiful ship enjoying warm tropical weather!

We disembarked in Barcelona last week and it was very organized. We filled out our preferred disembarkation time a few days before (15 minute time slots between 7:45 - 9:00 a.m.) All the luggage was in the big holding room organized by the colour on your disembarkation ticket so it was easy to find. Then you just roll your luggage outside and all the buses and taxis etc. are right there. Enjoy Barcelona!
Day Pass, Where?

It was $20 total for the taxi ride and there were 2 of us. . I just asked the reception desk to call us a taxi and it was there in no time.
