  1. We had 3 pair for 4 of us on our trip and absolutely.  We even had a pair of the inexpensive Amazon ones and they worked for our needs.  Agreed that you need to spot something before trying to locate it with zooming in!  We were able to scan trees for eagles and got great close-ups of the spotted seals swimming around and near our docked ship.

RCCL does not seem to provide them for suites (we had a JS on Quantum).

  2. We did DIY Jeep Tours on July 21 and honestly, it was a little rough for us.  It is a pretty long walk to the shed that they do share with Avis and it was taking no less than 15 minutes for each family to check in, so we waited in line for an hour to get our vehicle (and as others have said, we did not get a wrangler, but a Compass - which we knew about ahead of time).  We didn't get on the drive until maybe after 10:30 or so?  It's been a couple of weeks now so the time details are a little fuzzy looking back.
Our car was about $350-400 for the day, which is pretty insane if you think about a car rental for a few hours!  But we paid that ahead of time, so no big deal.  But when you lose an hour standing in line, it does sting a little.  Plus, not their fault at all, but we all know Quantum has been shortening days in Skagway this summer....originally we were supposed to come in at 7am.
The car wasn't all that clean inside, but it was fine enough.  The provided cooler and lunch they had originally advertised on their site is now a voucher for a place in Carcross.....which we had no time to get to because of all of the time delays, heavy fog slowing down our driving, plus another 45 minutes waiting at the Fraser land border (again, totally not their fault).  Although, I don't see that advertised on their site anymore, so they must have updated it after changing their process.  Wish I had known ahead of time, I would have packed more for us to snack on during the day!
So, I don't know that I'd do it again - I'd probably choose a tour, but it was nice having the flexibility to do the pull-offs on our own, and we did have a great time (and the weather cleared nicely) at the suspension bridge!

  3. After learning our upcoming stateroom would probably have a kettle in it (Quantum, JS), we decided to bring loose white tea with us.  It's what DH drinks and will be nice to be able to have it available in our room.  But that said, I just bought a 100 pack of the disposable teabags on Amazon so it isn't a trash problem.  We'll give it a test run at home and make sure it works well first.

I never figured we'd get set aside for contraband, but also figured I'd bring it in the original package...... 🙂

  4. We are on the Splendor in Dec - thanks for your review! Still will be waiting out our final itinerary for awhile, I think :/

I was under the impression they didn't have a Cherry on Top. Did they have a small candy area inside one of the other shops where you guys found your sour candy? (My DH and kids are big fans!)

  5. It looks like I cruise about a month before you!

I'm super tempted. We had a good experience just parking at EZCruise last July. The shuttle was there and ready to go when we got off the ship. For Valet, I'm worried about standing in a line and waiting a long time while they retrieve our car. Googling for reviews gets me nowhere.

  6. Hi all - I understand this thread is about 6 months old now, but wanted to bump and see if anyone has yet to book the valet parking and what your experience was? I'm about ready to pre-book parking and thought this could be really great in getting us off the ship and out of Galveston fairly quickly.

    Thoughts?

  7. My 3yo doesn't like regular showers, but she does not mind using the handheld shower that we have at home. It's basically the same that's available on the cruise shower. I was able to sit on the toilet seat and shower her on our July cruise and she did just fine. Washing the hair's always a bit of a pain, but that's all the time - not just cruising :)

My DD prob would be pretty squished in the duck, but I also know it doesn't take much room to pack - so give it a shot if that makes you feel most comfortable! You'll want to shower her instead of wiping down - the salt, sweat, sunblock and sand can get pretty gross feeling :)

  8. We love our Bubblebum(s) for our 6 year old in travel and "in a pinch" situations! We recently used it when she had a friend come home for a sleepover and we needed to fit 3 across. It is one of the best inventions and I think it's be great for an already-boostered child :)

Sometimes you can find them on Zulily for a good deal. You've got to look for some discontinued patterns :)
