  1. Has anyone used Explore Roatan for excursions?  I would like some feedback on their experience.  We will be in port Dec 27, 2022 and want to see the sloths, etc.  There are three of us - all seniors, one in a wheelchair, so the excursion has to accommodate our special needs.  If you have used Explore Roatan, I would appreciate your thoughts.  Thanks.

  2. Can you tell me how reliable the Connexxion - Schiphol Hotel Shuttle is ?  We will be arriving at Schiphol after an overnight flight from Washington DC and need transportation to Movenpick Hotel.  I know there are many option for transport, but we are a group of six adults and one is disabled and will have a (foldable) wheelchair.  So, after a long flight, we will be looking for the easiest transport to our hotel.  Connexxion Hotel Shuttle's cost seemed reasonable and an easy way to get from the airport to the hotel.  Any advice?  Thanks.

  3. We will be arriving in Amsterdam on June 21, 2019 for a cruise leaving port on the next day. Since our plane will arrive early in the morning, we will have one day to do a little sightseeing. I have read all the recommendations on hotels in Amsterdam and many are quite nice. My problem - whether to book a hotel close to the port or one in the city central. My husband is disabled and will have either a wheelchair or his mobility scooter with him and two others in our party of six have some trouble walking long distances.

We have never been to Amsterdam and want to see a few of the sights. Any suggestions on the best choice or options when considering that some are not able to walk long distances, etc? Any help would be appreciated.

  4. I think St Albans would fit your bill easy train ride from London 15 minutes walk from Station may be better to take bus bit uphill Abbey (Now Cathedral) is very interesting and old its in nice park you could walk down to the Lake and have lunch in the Oldest Pub in England. You could climb to the top of the Clock Tower maybe not your husband, nice street market Wednesday & Saturday nice web site http://www.enjoystalbans.com/things-to-do/attractions/index.html#

I live 20 minutes by car from St Albans if I can be of any help let me know, would be only to pleased, we had some friends over from New Zealand the other week they loved St Albans.

Thanks for all the wonderful ideas. It would be lovely. Unfortunately, we had to cancel our cruise and trip to England last week. My mother became very ill and had to be hospitalized and I lost my job. So we will not be visiting your lovely country.

We are so disappointed, but appreciate everyone's suggestions. Best of everything to you. :(

  5. Sounds like a great trip. We live just 4 hours from Richmond VA. Hope you have a lovely time. Since my last post, our personal situation has changed and we debated cancelling our trip. We have decided to go, but under the circumstances, we will probably opt for a quick excursion down the Thames to Greenwich. But thanks for all the suggestions and help. I appreciate the suggestions and information.

  6. First cruise on Princess line, so I would like to know if there is currency exchange on board the ship. We are sailing on a 12-day British Isles cruise in August. I will need some cash in Euros and GBPs. On other cruises, you could exchange US dollars for the current port's currency. Is it the same on Princess or will I have to find an ATM after we dock?

  7. Also how are you planning on getting to places as if you have a car it opens up a lot more places.

Please google these for more info

British Royal History.....Hever Castle, or Warwick Castle

If you like military history Duxford RAF Museum or Bovington Tank Museum

If your into historic houses.....Blenheim Palace or Hatfield House

    Abbeys......Canterbury or York

And last but not least Stafford upon Avon but that's a bloody long way for a day trip but very pretty ( quite a tourist trap tbh. But still worth a visit)

If you like St Albans it's very close to Hatfield where you can visit stunningly pretty and very historic Hatfield House http://www.hatfield-house.co.uk/

I live between the 2 and more than happy to talk real details if you would like. However as we are off travelling Australia and the USA for 5 months from November we may not be about to join you for a cup of tea and a chat xx

A cup of tea and a chat sound great and another plus for St. Albans ! :D

As I mentioned in my other post, we are looking at August 19 (Saturday) for our day trip out of London.

Where in the USA are you planning to travel, if you don't mind me asking?

  8. St Albans sounds like a good fit for you but it's very hilly and to be honest the Roman Ruins are not very exciting.....please don't think it's anything like Pompeii. If you google Verulamium Museum you will see what I mean.

The Abbey is beautiful and very historic with a wonderful tea rooms in the building next to it. A link here https://www.stalbanscathedral.org/. Will help you.

I think if your husband is able to cope with some cobbled streets and the stroll down the hill and back up to the Abbey you would enjoy it.

When are you thinking of visiting out of interest?

We will be in London from August 18 - 22, the last four days of a three-week trip including a 12-day British Isles cruise. So, Saturday, August 19, seemed like a good day to get out of the city for a day trip.

I would love to see all the places that have been suggested. Every place is appealing, but I'm trying to be sure it's not too difficult for my husband and gives us a break from a very busy trip. St Albans still has appeal for those reasons. My husband can navigate the hills as long as we can go at our own pace - slow ! That's one reason we like to do these trips on our own.

Cambridge and Ely sound interesting, too. When looking at info on Cambridge, I noticed the American Cemetery is close by. I'm wondering how far it is from Cambridge and if there's transportation (bus, etc.) to it. We are visiting the Normandy beaches and American cemetery during a stop in France on our cruise, but it would be nice to see this cemetery as well; it looks beautiful and solemn. Since my husband is a Navy veteran and my son, a Marine veteran from the Iraq war, this is interesting to us.

You and everyone else have some great suggestions. I wish had more time but alas, I will have to chose. St Albans or Cambridge and Ely are the ones that seem to be of most interest. I just need to determine which would be most enjoyable and relaxing.

  9. St. Albans is very pretty but not much there other than the abbey ( I live very close so feel free to ask questions ). Can you let us know what your interests are that would help xx

We were hoping for a relaxing day - a break from the big tourist areas. Heard that St Albans has a lovely, historic Abbey, some Roman ruins and artifacts and on certain days, a nice market. And wasn't too far out of London. Sounded very appealing, especially toward the end of a three-week trip.

We like history, art and exploring new places. My husband walks with a cane, so hiking and beaches are not practical. Towns and cities afford places to stop and rest so it works out for us. I'd like to see some place beyond the major tourist attractions.

  10. We will be in London four days, post cruise, and thought a day trip out of London would be a welcome break from the "hustle and bustle" of the city. During our trip, we will be visiting Portsmouth, Winchester, Salisbury, Windsor, Stonehenge and Chester. So, I'm looking for easy day trip ideas out of London, using public transport (rail, bus, etc.) and perhaps a little off the "beaten trail".

One idea was to visit St. Albans. Good idea? I'm open to other suggestions, but beaches and hiking trails are out since my DH mobility problems and walks with a cane.

    I would appreciate suggestions.

  11. This may be a stupid question, but I would appreciate some clarification. My husband and I are planning to be in Southampton for two day "pre-cruise" and would like to visit Winchester and Portsmouth.

Do I need to purchase our rail tickets ahead of time online or can I just purchase at the rail station on the day of our visit? Also, if purchased at the rail station, can I use cash or do I need a credit card or other payment card?

When we were in Ireland, we took the train from Tullamore to Dublin. We just went to the station that morning, purchased tickets with cash and boarded the train. I would appreciate knowing if it's the same procedure. What do you recommend?

    Thanks for your help !:)

  12. Thanks for the info ! It really helps in planning as I have never been in London and had no idea how long from the hotel to Heathrow.

Yes, 3 hours seems like too long at the airport, but we (my husband and I) always err on the side of too much time since it takes us longer to get from place to place. He can walk, but very slowly with a cane. Thus, we always allow more time than others would.

Thanks again for all the info.:D

  13. In August, we will be staying four days post-cruise at the Park Plaza Victoria for some London sightseeing. Our flight back to the US is scheduled to depart Heathrow at 9:30 AM on a Tuesday. My question: How long will it take to get from our hotel to Heathrow? I need arrange transportation and have no idea what time to request a pick-up.

Public transportation will not be an option since my husband has a mobility disability, walks with a cane and many times needs assistance. I would have to take care of our luggage as well as assist him, so it is not practical.

Can anyone give me an idea of the time frame for transport from the Park Plaza Victoria to Heathrow? Heathrow's website states we need to be there 3 hours before our flight, which would be 6:30 AM.

  14. Does anyone know if the Premier Inn Southampton West Quay has luggage storage for arrivals before check-in time or after check-out time? We are arriving at Heathrow at 7:25 AM, if our flight is on time, and transporting directly to Southampton (private transport). I expect we will arrive well before the 2 PM check in time. I would like to walk around and maybe get a bite to eat without having to cart our luggage with us. I have tried to find the information, but Premier's website basically says "it depends on the individual hotel." Has anyone stayed at this hotel? Can you let me know?

    Thanks.

  15. Thanks to both Bob and John Bull for your replies.

I did double check the email address for Smiths, but I may give them a call. I can't imagine a company so highly rated not replying to an email. Perhaps there was a problem.

As to West Quay Cars, the price was higher than Aqua Cars and from what I gathered people were paying to Smith's, but they're still an option especially since it seems they have a good reputation as well as Smiths.

Thanks again for your information! I really appreciate it.

  16. Has anyone used West Quay Cars to transfer from Heathrow to Southampton?

My husband and I need a transfer to our hotel, Premier Inn Southampton West Quay, from Heathrow. I have seen many recommendations for Smiths for Airports, but none on West Quay Cars. I have tried contacting Smiths for Airports but have not gotten a reply. West Quay Cars was very prompt in replying. Any recommendations or suggestions greatly appreciated.

  17. Has anyone recently been on Mary Lou's Tours on the Big Island? If so, how has the lava flow affected (or not) the tour?

We're booked for the tour and was wondering if anyone noticed an impact on the tour.

    Thanks. :)

  18. Has anyone used Charley's Taxi for transport from the airport to a Waikiki hotel or from the hotel to the cruise port? If so, I'd like to know if you found his service reliable? Or were there any problems?

I'm thinking about pre-booking with him for transport to our hotel when we arrive and to the cruise port - just the taxi service, not the M & G service.
