  1. We took a taxi to Megan's Bay and it was idyllic. We were the only ship in port and the beach was mostly empty. Next time i want to go to St. John, and will do so through a ship excursion since it's further away.

  2. In Roatan, book the Tabyana Beach Break if you love snorkeling. Tabyana Beach is located at West Bay on the other side of the island from Mahogany Bay. Crystal clear water, and the coral reef is located just 25-30 yards from shore. Here are a couple photos from our February cruise :

The beach even has "guides" that will tow you out to the far side of the reef and back (for a tip). Highly recommended. If you don't want to purchase the Carnival excursion, several resorts on West Bay, for instance Bananrama, have day passes you may purchase.

I enthusistically second the Tabyana suggestion for Roatan (Mahogany Bay port). I saw so many beautiful fish snorkeling there, including giant parrot fish. That was all right offshore. If you swim well, there are guys on kayaks that will tow you out further. You don't have to swim, but in the event somrthing happened to the kayak tow I knew I could just swim back. Snorkeling there was the final push i needed to get SCUBA certified, which i did last year.

  3. I've been on three Carnival cruises on Conquest class ships and one on a Spirit class ship. I really enjoyed the adult only pool areas and didn't realize they weren't available fleet wide. I'm sailing on the Dream in a few weeks and am going to check whether or not they have one. I like that these ships have areas that are very kid friendly, as well as areas that are adults only.

For me, as others have stated above, the issue isn't kids, even kids being exuberant kids - it's a fun part of the atmosphere, and I see tons of kids having a great time. But herds of unsupervised kids hopped up on soft serve sugar or whatever rampaging about the ship are not fun (or safe for the involved kids!). For those who point out its a family friendly line, yes it is. But "family" implies you act accordingly and have a clue what your kids are up to, not abdicate all parental responsibility.

  4. My boyfriend and i just got back yesterday. We went down on Friday and the ship left sunday night. We stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan and were very happy with it. Our room was $200 per night. The hotel dies have ekevatirs. Its oerfect fir getting to the port (we walked over with our bags, across the street from hotel and about one block down, 2 minutes if that), and for seeing old san juan. Note there is no beach and the pool is very small, so if those things matter look elsewhere.

  5. I haven't had it happen either but I'm sure others here have, and I'd wait for their advice. I'd also change your post title to something more specific, like " help! guest dropped out - treat as no show?"

  6. I've had the aft wrap and it was beautiful. It was a Caribbean cruise, so whether was warm and beautiful and we definitely enjoyed it. However, it was a casino upgrade. As nice as it was I doubt I'd pay for one if it were going to impact my spending money for other activities. If I did Alaska I think I'd look for a regular balcony on the land view side of the ship.

  7. I sailed on her out of New York four years ago on my first cruise. The decor is over the top, but I thought it was fun. The grapes all over the dining room were a bit much, but they were awful in a compelling way - so bad they were good! The adults only Serenity deck, located at the aft of the ship (including at pool) remains my favorite Serenity area to date.
