  1. Thanks to everyone who suggests to watch the fares, we have been doing that, and it is amazing how fast they change from one minute to another.  My question is, when I now go to the Airline web site to check this message is there, and has been for about 2 weeks now.  Do I need to contact Princess or the Airlines about this?  We didn't have this on our earlier flights we had booked.

EZ Air does not become “restricted” until 45 days out, whereas final payment is due usually 75-90 days out. Princess does not pay the airline until the 45 day mark, unless you instruct that Princess make the payment to the airline and the airline issues the ticket. At that point, yes the airfare moves to restricted. The only reason you would want to do this is if the airline does not allow you to select seats, or get on an upgrade list prior to the tickets being issued. (No such restrictions with AA. I have my seats selected and I’m on the upgrade list -fingers crossed) 😉

How do you get on the upgrade list?

To actwrks.  sounds like you have United tickets outbound and American on the return.  If so you should get miles on those two airlines for all segments.  Are you flying international? Those flights generally get a free bag checked depending on destination.  On your return, if you check-in at an American Airlines counter having their credit card might give you an advantage.  If you are checking in at a British Air desk, probably not.

Thank you,  These are our first international flights.  Outgoing we were told we check in with  Lufthansa not United and the first leg of the trip is check in with BA.

If you check in on American or Delta, using their co-branded credit card you should be authorized the free checked bag.  They don't require that you purchase the ticket with those cards.  United does require the fare to be purchased using their card.  As Colo Cruiser stated, Princess actually  pays for the ticket using their accounts and the ticket payment is usually listed a "bulk fare". Therefore even if you paid Princess using your United Credit Card you won't see the benefits.

If your first flight on the return is on British Air you might be out of luck there as well.  If the first flight is on American (or if it is a code share with American and you can check-in with them) you will be good for the entire return trip home.

You will get miles or points on the purchase, but usually you don't get the free checked bag or early boarding

our flight out bound would be United operated by Lufthansa and our return flight would be American operated by British Air and American, does this make a difference

  5. Can we pay for the cruise with one credit card and request that the air fare be charged on another card?   How would it work if we use two different airlines United/Lufthansa going and American/British Air returning?  We have credit cards and miles with both airlines, which credit card would we use?   We understand that we can’t use miles with EzAir, but would our free baggage apply, and would we earn miles with both airlines?  Thank you

Domestic airlines allow you to book immediately but if the flights you booked are operated by Lufthansa then booking your seats may have to be done later.  I have successfully chosen seats with a BA flight for my travel buddy by using the confirmation # shown on you EZ Air confirmation directly on their website.  Don't know if it works for Lufthansa or not but it may be worth a try.

I always choose a domestic airline for this reason and you may be able to switch to United flights and choose your seats now.

Of if there are other airlines offering fares that are acceptable to you - make the switch. I have made multiple changes to flights as I find lower fares too so watch for that too!

    Good luck!

It is an international flight, and I checked both the United and Lufthansa sites and got the same information, that I could not select seats until ticketed.  Were you able to make the changes after the flights were ticketed?

  7. Doesn’t anyone fly Economy anymore, it seems that everyone flies business class these days.  We booked our flight for our pre-cruise and it is a United operated by Lufthansa. I understand that with experienced travelers there is a love/hate relationship with this airline.  We tried to select seats, but apparently we can’t until 23 hours before.  Princess said if I pay now, they would ticket the flight, and I might be able to choose our seats.  At that point I would not be able to take advantage of lower prices if they occur.  I thought with EZAIR, changes could be made until 45 days before the trip, whether the flight has been paid for or not.  If we wait until 23 hours before, will we be able to sit together?  Is it like this for economy class on all airlines?

We also get many choices pop up with Air Canada/Air Rouge flights too. With many connecting through Toronto.

Have you ever taken one of these flights that connect through Canada on Air Rouge?

What does it mean when you say Air Rouge is NO frills?

Welcome to the world of code-sharing.  If each of these flights depart and arrive at the same time, they are the same flight, just sold by different airlines.  Just so you know, Rouge is Air Canada's discount airline, and offers little in the way of amenities.  So a flight operated by Air Canada Rouge will be no frills.

    Stan

    Thank you Stan.

When you say not frills what does that mean?  It was suggested to me to fly Lufthansa, but if it is an Air Canada flight, maybe not.  What is the preferred airline to fly to Europe?

  10. Happy New Year!

We are booking our air through Ezair for our Mediterranean cruise, but since we have never flown internationally before I am getting confused.  It looks like there is a United flight that is operated by Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge, for one price, an Air Canada flight with the 2nd leg operated by Air Canada Rouge for another price, and an Air Canada/ Lufthansa flight with the Lufthansa portion being operated by CANADA ROUGE FOR AIR CANADA, for yet another price.  There was also an United/Lufthansa flight listed.  All these flights look the same to me.   We are leaving LAX on 10/18/209 to Venice, if that helps, and leaving Barcelona on 11/6/2019 back to LAX. I called United, and they confused me even more, so I am asking the experts, all of you on CC that have done this before.  Thank you for your help!

We did a similar cruise last September.  We did EZAir from Vancouver to Rome and Barcelona to Vancouver.  We did all transfers and hotels on our own and it was very easy and we got to choose the budget we wanted to.  We used a hotel booking site for hotels and absolutely loved our choices.

Transfers were super easy.  Lots of info in the Europe boards

Can you share what booking site you used and the hotels you loved?

  12. We will be taking a Mediterranean cruise leaving out of Rome ending Barcelona.  Since this will be our first trip to Europe, we have decided to do a pre-cruise starting in Venice and Rome and a post cruise in Barcelona.  We are trying to decide if it is better to do air with Ez Air and the hotels, transfers, etc on our own, or to book a vacation package that would include air, transfer to the port, and the hotel we want to stay in Rome.  We didn’t like the hotels offered in Venice and Barcelona, so we will book those ourselves.

  13. In October 2019 we are taking our first Mediterranean cruise from Rome to Barcelona on the Princess Emerald.  Since we have never been to Europe, we were thinking of doing a Pre-Cruise vacation in Italy and then spend an extra day or two post cruise in Barcelona.  We are looking for suggestions on the best way to plan one.  We were thinking that maybe we could fly into Venice for a couple of days before heading to Rome.  Or maybe just go to Rome and take some day trips so we could see more of Italy.   How many days should we plan for a Pre-Cruise?  Once we are in Rome, what is the best way to get to the port? Any and all suggestions are welcome.  Thank you for your help.

Ill disagree I’m afraid.  Have sailed an aft balcony full suite once by choice and once from an up sell. NEVER again.

    Kenexx,

Thank you.  Can you share why you will never again get an aft balcony?
