  1. The corkage fee ($15) if for wine. If you put "alcohol" (think rum, gin, vodka) into your bottled water or soda and it's discovered...it will be confiscated.

BTW OP: if you want you can take a case, flat, etc of your water or soda, tape a luggage tag on it and give it to a porter.

If you're bringing smaller quantities (i.e. a 6 pack), just carry it on, don't pack it in your luggage.

Thanks for all your help. We drink a lot of bottled water but we don’t drink alcohol.

  2. We are sailing on Saturday and will just turn our phones off. We will take some pictures with the iPad and send them when we can get some free wifi in ports. The iPad is not connected to any phone number, just email so no charges and I don't have to keep checking to see what wifi server I am on.

  3. I just phoned HAL as we are cruising in a few days. I can bring my bottles of water and Diet Pepsi on board as long as they are sealed (never been opened). I don't drink coffee or tea or liquor so when others are having a drink on the balcony I enjoy a Diet Pepsi. Diet Coke does not agree with me....now on to getting my laundry done so I can be ready to go!

  4. I do not like diet coke at all and planned on bringing diet Pepsi on HAL next week. I had planned on bringing 12 small bottles but after reading some comments here I better switch to cans. I had also wanted to bring bottles of water as I go through several bottles a day.

  5. I was glad to see this thread. We are taking our first cruise and I was a bit concerned about tipping. After reading these replies, I feel a bit better about the auto tips being sufficient.

  6. Has anyone been to the Costco recently? Does it have Alaska souvenirs or Alaska products like ulus, salmon, reindeer sausage? I remember that Costco in Hawaii had quite a nice selection of local souvenir and specialty products and wondered if it's the same in Alaska. P.S. We will have a car, so it's no trouble getting there.

I searched the threads and only found an old thread from 5 years ago, so I thought I'd ask again.

Now that is a great idea! :)

  7. What sunscreens are your favorite to use while cruising? I hate hate HATE that greasy sunscreen feeling!! I've heard great things about Bull Frog, Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch, and Ocean Potion...and I'm open to other suggestions!

I am a fair skinned redhead who had avoided the sun as much as possible because I hated the feel of sunscreen on my skin. I had sun damaged spots of skin removed years ago. Then my dermatologist told me Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch sunscreen. I bought some and for the first time in my life I could use sunscreen and not have the greasy sunscreen feeling! I am very happy using it.
