No....they charge gratuity based on the price of the package.  Also, drinking '30 drinks a day' has nothing to do with if the package is financially viable.

For example, my thing is martinis.  If my ship has an Alchemy bar I will be there.  My last cruise my favorite dirty martini was $11, so basically $13 with gratuity.  I paid $51.95 for the package or $61.30 per day with gratuity.  So, the math says by 'break-even' was 4.7 drinks per day.  No where near needing to drink 15 drinks to 'justify the cost'.

The question was for all adults being forced to purchase.....For example, doesn't matter how Ray gets to 61.30 per day, 4 drinks or whatever! If only one person in the cabin is nailing that mark daily it may be viable for 'that cabin' not  to purchase Cheers.

We recently sailed on Royal Caribbean and got their version of the unlimited alcohol package. What we found was, it made sense for me, but it didn't make sense for my wife. She just didn't drink enough alcohol to justify the cost.

I'm guessing the reason for the rule is to prevent sharing, but I would think there are other ways to accomplish that.

Has anyone heard of any discussions regarding removing this rule, or is it here to stay?

Did Cheers two cruises and found myself drinking more than normal and ordering more high end drinks just to justify the cost.

Between going to gym/spa, eating two or three meals, and large amount of time off the ship it left little time for drinking 30 drinks per day. We didn't do Cheers on last cruise and saved 300 bucks! Our cruise next year has almost four sea days so we may reevaluate....I also believe they charge gratuities on 30 drinks per day rather you drink them or not.

I got back from the Breeze about 10 days ago. Overall, I am disappointed with the experience and I don't know if I was the only who felt the same. I have been on 6 cruises with them, my last one being the Elation last year.

First the positives so you can get the full picture.

1.) I had a truly delicious dinner in their Italian restaurant.

2.) Their sea brunch was yummy.

3.) I enjoyed most of the shows and the CD was great.

4.) The cabin was nice and I enjoyed the balcony.

    5.) Dr Seus breakfast

    Things that can use improvement

1.) Dinner in the MDR. I would give it a 5 or 6 out of 10.

2.) The kids club used to be great but there were way less activities for the kids. They used to have a lot of themed parties but now they are after 10 so you have to pay and anyway that is quite late for little ones.

3.) The Grand Turk beaches needed more TLC.

    Things that were horrible

1.) The general upkeep of the ship. In the MDR, so many chairs and carpets were really badly stained. It took away from the experience. There was so much pealing paint and rust around the ship.

2.)The awful smells around the ship. It was either sewage or smelled like mildew. they would then spray perfume over the bad smell but it was so overwhelming that they had to use my asthma meds to breathe.

3.) The ship was just plain dirty. The public bathrooms were dirty a lot and my husband found many bathrooms without soap (we like to actually wash our hands with soap for eating so we weren't using the toilet facilities) On other cruise lines you have sinks with soap next to the buffet and/or have crew members at the entrance of the buffet at least encouraging people to clean their hands. This was not the case on the Breeze. People would leave their trash everywhere including the stairs. I saw very few members of the crew cleaning.

Has anyone have a similar experience with cleanliness or bad smells lately on this boat or on another ship?

Just got off a few days ago and I agree with everything you said! I thought it was going to be a hair nicer than the Dream and Magic because of the age but it was by far the worst in that class.

The Italian restaurant was amazing and the Seafood restaurant Also. Didn't expect it to be the Vista but dam sure didn't expect a larger Inspiration or Legend. Back to Miami next year for Horizon.

  4. We have always driven to all of our cruises and this time I'm trying to

talk to my husband into flying. He DOES NOT want to fly but since

it will just be the 2 of us instead of the whole family I'm trying to get

    him to consider it.

We live in north Georgia and will be leaving out of Port Canaveral so we

would be looking at a 9 hour drive. We are doing an 8 day Southern so

we would have to fly down or drive down on Valentine's Day.

Do most of you chance flying in the same day or do you fly in the day

before? We don't usually have very much bad weather but our luck would

be that it would come a blizzard about the time of our flights.

Also, on the way back - how much time should we allow from getting

from Port Canaveral back to the airport in Orlando. I would really

prefer flying in Daytona but the rates are much higher than flying into

    Orlando.

We usually do self assist debark - would I be ok with a flight that leaves

Orlando at 10:25 or would that be pushing it?

We can definitely drive and pay to park cheaper but that doesn't

count the time we will be in the car actually driving.

    Thoughts and experiences please?

Flying in to cruise from Port Canaveral is a pain in the rump! I would drive.

  5. My husband and I will be traveling with our 2 teenage daughters age 15 and 17 during a spring break cruise. I really wish we did not need to go Spring Break but the school schedule dictates our vacations. We are looking at the Sunshine, Magic and Vista. We all really enjoy pool time and being outdoors during the day. The girls are pretty active and will enjoy water slides, games and any other outdoor activities available. Looking for suggestions on which ship to choose on what we know will be a crowded spring break cruise. The cost is only a 500.00 difference between the 7 day Magic Cruise which is the cheapest and the 8 day Vista Cruise which is the most expensive. The 8 day Sunshine falls right in the middle of those 2 for cost. So it really is about the amenities and outdoor space for us. We love being at sea and being able to see that we are at sea! So if you can provide any feedback on these ships (the good, bad or ugly) we would really appreciate it. This is the last family vacation we will have before the oldest heads off to college so we really want to choose something we will love. Thanks is advance for any advice!

Vista was nice but it didn't blow me away...i thinky my expectations were to high, everything kind of scattered too.

Magic is a beautiful ship and I haven't sailed the Sunshine since it was called Destiny.

    Good luck!

  6. Was on the Vista November 2016 muster was B4 the casino. The cigarette smoke smell was unbearable. Not only in the casino but you could smell it in the lobby bar. Just my opinion but not a good place for a muster station. second hand smoke and all that. Hope they fixed it.

If the ship is in real trouble I might need a smoke.

  7. Ok, I admit that after one cruise I am hooked on Guys burger. It is just hamburger meat on a bun right? Maybe it is the location, but boy those were some tasty burgers. I went simple.

    Plain Jane cheeseburger

    Mustard

    Raw Onion

    Sautéed Onion

    Bacon

    Sometimes a few hot peppers

How can that be so darn good??

How do you guys make yours?

    Mayo, ketchup, raw onions, lettece

  8. How has this been working out? Is this now fleet wide with Carnival? My first thought is that this is not a good idea. What happens if you get to your room and your keys aren't in the Mailbox. Do you have to go with all of your carry-on to Guest Services to get your key?

How do they take your picture when boarding? Do you use your Boarding Pass through all of the check points?

    What are your thoughts?

I think it's a safety issue any time you leave a room/house/or cabin key in a mailbox especially for women and children.....like a rapist or killer can't reseal a envelope.

  9. I know the steakhouse is an additional $35/person or $70.00 for the two of us.

I'm sure that the steaks are much better quality as a Ponderosa or Golden Corral. My question: Is it as good of quality as the higher end steakhouses? Say a Jeff Ruby's in Cincinnati and Louisville? Or an Eddie Merlot?

We'll pay the $70 for Ruby/Merlot quality. But not for a lower end

    The Steakhouse has very good

steaks, honestly can't believe how low the price is considering the quality of meal and service....I think they're as good as Mortons.

  10. From reading other threads it seems that you can order two apps instead of an app and a salad (but I have not been to a Carnival steakhouse yet myself) but that may vary from ship to ship. I will be chowing down on onion soup and a cowboy steak in 9 days. My two favorite cuts are ribeye and cowboy...but cowboy is definitely my first choice. I doubt that you can go wrong with either though.

You can order as many sides and salads as you like, we have never been told no.

  11. i get cheers every time, it is nice to not have to worry about the bill afterwards.

The wine I like is 9.25, Alchemy Bar is $10.25, and I have cut back my drinking in port. Also, you can have sodas and they give you bottled water, so i always get one or two to take off the ship for ports.

I have seen so many people asking about it on day 1 and thinking, no I won't drink that much, then by day 3 wish they had purchased it. With so much free time at night and on sea days, you usually end up drinking more than you think you will.

And you don't have to break even every day, so really it is about spending $400 per person over a week.

Is it 15 drinks per person or per cabin each day?

  12. Especially the sides and desserts?? I go at least once every cruise, and have since it was introduced as "The Supper Club" and I love the experience but I've really tired of the menu.

As a whole the menu has seen little to no change since it was introduced. One change I remember is the removal of the fan favorite porterhouse steak. If anyone remembers any others, please let me know!

I would love to see new side dishes such as potatoes au gratin, lobster macaroni and cheese, sweet potato soufflé, maybe some asparagus? And the desserts...the cheesecake is big and not much else. The chocolate sampler is great and don't want to see it go but please, some variety! Would love a bread pudding, some mousse, creme brulee, some kind of cake, anything to change it up a bit.

They change the Chef's Table all the time. Why not the Steakhouse?

I agree about the cheesecake and sides, no reason not to expand the menu a little! Love the steak and lobster though.

  13. It's seems a little over the top.

How many people drink that much the last night? When I have to fly or drive the last thing I need is to have had too much to drink the night before.

    Maybe I'm in the minority:confused:

I'm with you! The last night I'm packing all my crap up as early as possible and getting drunk is the last thing on my mind. May have a few drinks at a show or casino but not sitting in my cabin getting hammered.

  14. The only reason I go to the party is for the free drink. Well I'm Diamond and do like the perk to meet and sit down with the captain. I can't see getting mad since your going to get a good drink and not the rum punch at the party. Maybe Kieth needs to book the cheap cabins and go more to be platinum. I use to go to Vegas 3 times a yr. also but since I'm retired I can't afford to anymore. Cruising is money better spent for me. But I still gamble some

You're right Terryinal . I apologize if I offended you, wish you nothing but fun and happiness on all future cruises

  15. really am sick of you entitled people who like to put others down....you know, those of us who cruise when we can get the time and the airfare because we don't live within thousands of miles of a cruise port...karma will getcha...meanwhile...back to planning my next 4 night cruise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry, your post made me realize that I took a bad/awful route that I shouldn't have. I hope you except my apologies and I'm glad you called me out.

    Have a wonderful cruise

  16. I really don't see what issue is. So what if someone got some perk before you did? Especially with Carnival where for $50 you can buy the most important components of the perk.

I can't imagine being concerned about someone getting the same cabin as I did for less money, for that matter more likely that someone is getting the same seat on the plane for $100 less.

Getting a perk for anything is nice but it's not a reason for choosing a cruise or a reason to be upset that someone is getting something you aren't.

    have a great cruise

I agree with you, this thread was directed at a few platinum cruisers who were bullying and laughing at some of the gold cruisers on this past Wednesday for not being able to attend the party, my point is just like a person who's in a interior room could be worth more than a person in a suite, a person with a gold card could be worth more than a platinum cruiser. If I offended any of my fellow cruisers I apologize and I'm truly sorry.

  17. Hate to tell you but I cruised more last yr the you have done in your life

May be true......but I also went to Vegas twice and Sandals Whitehouse last year, and im going back to Sandals this July before my cruise on Valor in October. But when I retire I'm sure I will catch you.

  18. Sadly, yes.

On Royal Caribbean, this is not the case. You get double the cruise points if you stay in a suite, or you cruise solo. On NCL, you get double the points for getting a suite or Haven stateroom, as well as if you book 9 months or further in advance. The statuses are also more reasonable. Do I like the rewards programs on other lines? Certainly. Do I want to put myself in those loyalty programs? Definitly. Will I stop cruising Carnival? No!

I understand the frustration of many, I feel like a middle child! Not good enough for the nice perm's, but I don't need to be lured back to another cruise, so I get no attention. But I'm totally with you, if you get an interior gaurentee on a few 2 and 3 night cruises from long beach, and I get aft balconies on two 7 night cruises and a 4-5 night cruise, we should not be on the same level.

    Yep
