SS I can only hope your new Trivia members are as good as we all were. Pleasure meeting you and Mrs SS. You both are delightful!

Anyone traveling from ATL to SJU this morning? Trying to guess who is on SS with us.
-
Check out the latest Silversea news from Cruise Critic:
We sail on the Wind Friday so wonder if we will get that perk

Norcalman, our TA said the same thing as you, but couldn’t confirm a black tie night on our cruise, which he thought was odd. My husband has decided to bring the tux jacket. We aren’t checking any luggage, so he’s planning on leaving the tux pants, cummerbund, bow tie, etc. at home. I gently questioned this, but it seems that he’s happy with his decision.
Ten days to go! I’m getting excited. Looking forward to meeting you and your partner, and the others from here who are on our cruise. Hopefully our Meet and Mingle will be scheduled on a different time/day than our (I guess I can’t say the name of our Travel Agent)’s cocktail party. :D
Napria looking forward to meeting you, as well. Tell your hubby I picked up a non traditional shirt to go with my tux jacket and bringing a pair of black slacks. No more full tux regalia for this guy. I may pack a tie for one informal night. Getting very excited on this end!
-
I’m curious about the dress code. Is there a black tie night? Our trip in a week and a half doesn’t seem to have one. To bring the tux or not to bring the tux. That is the question
We have planned accordingly for the formal night. In all the cruise docs, it states one formal, 3 informal, and 3 casual. Formal nights are the exception in the Med, Alaska, and I think the Gallapagos.

My partner and I started sailing on SS back in '05. The staff was and has been since extremely gay friendly and more than tolerant. We have met various couples, both men and women, on each cruise. I will go on to say that there was only one time when a very drunk passenger became exceedingly rude at the bar with disparaging comments not only to us, but to several straight couples, as well. All of us made appointments with the HD and subsequently this passenger was escorted off the ship at the next port. I believe I wrote about this on some other thread years ago.
You will love SS and the attention you receive.

I called my TA at Silversea with requests. He forwarded it in to Silver Services. Confirmed with me last Friday that it had been received. A little over 30 days to go.

I've been sailing with Silversea since '04, and enjoy receiving the cruise docs, tags, etc. However, an opt out method does seem plausible as part of the whole on-line requirements. It's not tough to add a choice that simply reads "Silver box yes no." For first timers who have never received the box it is a win for them. For those of us who want to opt out, simply click "no." In my residential neighborhood, we have an option to receive the newsletter via mail or email. Maybe it's harder for SS than we all know.

Should I be concerned about crossing the Atlantic on the Wind? Is its size a problem if we encounter heavy seas on the crossing?
I crossed from Rio to Namibia back in '05. It was a great trip with no issues at all.

Fulton County Schools, APS or perhaps Gwinnett? I’m looking forward to meeting you. I work in a High School :)
Fulton and boy do I ever needed this trip!:)

Interesting. Well, I guess I’ll just put it out there then... we’re flying in a day early. How about you, norcalman?
As a school administrator I am only able to take off the 30th, so we will be flying in the day of the cruise embarkation.
-
Hi norcalman! I was looking to see if I could send you a pm, but I'm not too savvy on Cruise Critic, I guess. Do I need to friend you first?
Go ahead and friend me or just try and message me. Not really sure how that works.
-
I asked my TA. He was able to tell me. As for an upgrade, I'm sorry, I can't say. We're going on our first cruise in March, so I have no experience yet.
Good luck!
Hi Napria! We (my partner and I) will also be on board. The Wind was home for me for nearly 75 days back in '05 and you will have a great time. We live in Buckhead so quite possibly will be on the same flight to SJ. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

I will be bringing my father on board the Wind on March 30th for the Southern Caribbean 7 dayer. Sailed on her about 10 years ago and looking forward to sharing the experience with my dad as part of his 90th birthday year long celebration. I have opted for most of the "bus tour" expeditions as although he is in quite good shape, he does tire easily. Hope to meet many of you on Board.
-
So glad to read that the Wind is in tip top shape. As the last part of my father's year long 90th birthday celebration we will be boarding her on the March 30th, San Juan to Ft. Lauderdale trip. :)

Wondering who else might be on this sailing. My partner and I will be coming down from Atlanta and this is our first mega ship sailing.
-
Has anyone received word on the itinerary change for this trip? Every place we were going is decimated. I can't see us doing the Western Caribbean from Port Canaveral, but I could be wrong. Thanks in advance!

Anyone else on this trip?

I, for one, was very happy about the missed port in PR. We really did not have enough time to explore properly, anyway. I was planning on meeting an old friend for the few hour we were there so that was a downside, but as stated previously I can always fly in and stay longer than 4-5 hours.
That said, this was my first Celebrity experience after only doing smaller, all-inclusive ships. I held out no expectations and honestly was pleasantly surprised.
The embarkation process was one of the easiest I have done in a very long time. The ship was well decorated and the public rooms spacious and never felt "big ship."
Although we were supposed to attend the CC meet and greet, we were having such fun exploring the ship we completely lost track of time.
I will echo the food in the MDR only as we did enjoy the salads in the OC. The first night, our table of eight waited THREE hours for our entrees. Completely unacceptable, but after a chat with our Maitre'D, the waiter was reassigned and all went well, service wise afterwards. We all agreed, that unless you were ordering beef, lamb, or escargot the meals were mediocre. Often food was sent back or just not finished.
The stateroom was spacious enough, and I loved the size of the balcony. It rivaled Silversea and made Seabourn's Juliette arrangements a joke.
We were forward and definitely felt the seas each night, but hey, we were on open seas.
I met many RCCL passengers who said they would never go back to RCCL due to the service and food on Celebrity.
That being said, we have already booked for next Christmas on Reflection and looking at Amsterdam roundtrip in '17. Overall it was a great first big ship experience.

Even though this is my first time on Silhouette (Nov 23-30), I went ahead and booked the standard alcohol package. I've been on Silversea and Seabourn in the past and quickly realized that my "at home" consumption is nothing like my "vacation consumption."
Rather than end up with a very large alcohol bill (because who really wants to try and remember everything they have consumed while on vacation), I felt it would be well worth the money. My traveling companion says that they will start losing money on us after the 1st sea day! Hope that helps.
-
Hi Folks, Rich and Ric from Atlanta here. Seeing how many of us are on this segment. This is our first "big ship" cruise having only done Silversea and Seabourn in the past. We booked for the number of sea days and getting to spend some time in PR with a great friend. Looking forward to a different view of cruising.
Cheers!
-
When is your cruise?
We are on the November 23rd segment. Really looking forward to 3 days at sea

This will be our first time on Celebrity (Silhouette), and also the first time on a ship of this size. Final confirmation came today from TA and I attempted to book some of the specialty restaurants only to find that none were available! Is this common? Should I wait to get on board and speak to the Maitre'd of each restaurant?
We opted out of Aqua class mainly due to the great reviews of the other dining venues as well as the main dining room. We also booked the late seating as the shows really aren't why we cruise.
Is anyone else concerned about the propulsion issues? My TA talked with Celebrity and was assured that things would be fine with no changes in ports, times, etc.
All help would be greatly appreciated.

Speaking of invitations, I did not get an invitation for the VS party either and I have free laundry ++ and 150 days. No invite. I jumped ship from SS in 2009 and beginning to remember why.....
