  1. My friend will be on the Star in a few weeks and she wonders if the outlets are US or does she need a converter.
    thanks for your help.

Thanks for the heads up as I use a CPAP machine.

But the more important issue is we have 23 yo triplets with intellectual disabilities (1 with autism).  The only concern we have is embarkation and getting through security.  Flying we call ahead to TSA. It is noted that they can not be separated from us.  We repeat this to the TSA agents and we are whisked through without any problem.  Is this possible on a cruise?

Look into the program Autism on the Seas. They have a wonderful program that they do on cruise ships. They even supply an aide who travels with you to help out with Autistic clients and their siblings.

Doing the crossing next year again too.  Guess we like this ship!  Weather today is 65, overcast, could be raining.  Have done Canaries many times so didn't plan too much.  But looking forward to Cococay.  There is enough stuff to do on board, depending on what you like.  lots of trivia.  good crew - very friendly.  Have to check again today but there are issues in casino with machines - you can play but your points are not tallied.  hopefully fixed so we can play during our six sea days!

Looking forward to meeting you next year! We do have a page for our sailing, please join us!

i guess we still have to deal with the stick to you shower curtains as opposed to the space capsules?

On Rhapsody right now.  Don't see that too much has changed.  They did take the computers out of the Diamond Lounge & now using part of the Loyalty Desk as a bar at nite for the crossing.  Still can't access your account on TV.  And there's been a problem in casino from believe Day 2 - points aren't being credited to your account.  Not even sure what the problem is but have no idea when it will be fixed.  A little quiet in the casino....

Hope you’re having a great time! I’ll be on that TA cruise next November and would love to hear all about your cruise.

What did you do in Lanzarote and Gran Canaria? Are there lots of activities on board? How is the weather?

    Thanks!

Thanks everyone. That’s an interesting idea about leaving the ship the last port day. Will have to keep that in mind for next time.

Our last stop is Genoa, we’re cruising on MSC Divina.

We ended up booking a hotel near the Pantheon area per cruisemom’s recommendation.

We decided we don’t want to rush through Florence (and seeing I’ve had two spine surgeries I especially can’t rush around a train station with heavy luggage. )

I feel better about just staying the last two nights in Rome so we’re closer to the airport.

I think we’ll be planning another trip to Italy so we can really enjoy some time in the Tuscan region. 😊

So much to see, so little time!

What hotel did you book near the Pantheon? I’m looking for a hotel post cruise.

    Thanks!

  6. I’ve never been to Rome and paid no attention in History Class, so I’m not sure what are the best things to see in Rome. I’ll spend 2-3 days there post cruise. Should I just do a Viator tour? We dock Nov 1, 2020. What will the weather be like then?

    Thanks!

  7. Looking for a Hotel pre cruise at the end of October 2020. We’d like to stay between $170-200/night. Centrally located near Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Coliseum, etc. Elevator needed.

Our TA recommends Hotel Traiano, but it doesn’t get great reviews on the travel sites.

Has anyone stayed there or have any recommendations?

    Thanks!

  8. We took my grandchildren on Freedom at 3&5. The little one was potty trained, but would get busy and forget. We told the staff that he needed to be reminded and if there was a problem his sister would help him. They said that no one could go in with him!  'Needless to say he had accidents because he got busy or his sister couldn’t  take him (he is very shy and small for his age). They gave my son in law a phone and they called him to pick my grandson up and on the 3rd time they said don’t bring him back!

The next year he was fine!

    Good luck!

The above quote is 100% inaccurate. The unlimited Internet on the Getaway is not as fast as at home, but it fine for wi-fi calling and anything else you want to do except stream video. This ia based on four cruises on Getaway!

Can I make international calls on the Getaway with WiFi calling or do I have to buy an international calling package and use it in port? I’m so technologically challenged!!! We’re going to be on the Getaway in October 2020 doing a Mediterranean cruise and then a transatlantic.

This is interesting as we've enjoyed Drew on Mariner, Monarch, and Oasis.  He was very visible on Mariner and Monarch and interacted with us and other passengers.  Oasis class is a different environment for Cruise Directors and I can understand why they might have a different approach on those ships.

I’ve had Drew Devine 3 times and all 3 times he’s been awful. Many people complain about him. He is invisible except to introduce the evening shows. On the morning show, he and his side kick are an embarrassment to Royal. He needs to go.

  11. Unfortunately, Drew Devine is back on the Adventure.

i can’t understand why Royal continues to employ him. He’s been Cruise Director on 3 cruises I’ve taken and the man only appears at the shows.

He does the morning show with the Activities Manager, a little Irish guy and the two of them do nothing but giggle at each other.

Drew is not visible or interactive with passengers.

Ive never have any luck with them whatsoever when requesting stuff for my CPAP.   I always have to ask my cabin attendant and they claim they didnt know.   Im not expecting the distilled water, extension cord OR the mattress pad Ive requested to be in the cabin when I board the ship.  The ONLY reason I even go through the Special Needs dept at all is to give them my wheelchair information so Im not booted out of my accessible cabin.  Not that Ive ever heard of anyone getting booted out of an accessible cabin.

I’ve been requesting CPAP supplies for 20 years and I’ve never had a problem!!! It is always there!

What CPAP supplies would they need to supply, if they did supply them?    This will be my first cruise using a CPAP and if there is something I need to request or bring with me, I would love to know that ahead of time.

Call them and they will supply you with Distilled Water and the proper extension cord. I’d suggest bringing some duct tape so you can then tape the cord to the carpet so you don’t trip over it!

I always thought mini fridges were standard.  I've never been in a room without one. I'm going to be booking a room on the Navigator for January, and I may have to request a medical one, just to make sure.  Are they as big as regular mini fridges typically are?  I only have a small medication pen that I would be bringing, so I don't need a big one.  I can always do the ice thing if needed.  Has anyone had both fridges in a room?  How much of a pain was it?

I will also need a sharps container, but a small one.  Do they have different sizes?  1 standard size?  If I bring my own, will they dispose of it for me?  If I have an unofficial sharps container, will they take care of it?  Do any of the public restrooms on the ship or at the port have sharps containers?

The “mini fridge” that is in every room, is actually just a cooler. It’s always worked fine for my medication pen and keeping soda, etc cooled. The sharps container is quite small. My pen would not fit in it, but it held my lancets fine. It’s about 3”x7”.

Ive never seen a sharps container in the public restrooms or at the port. I know some restrooms in the airports have them.

I understand that fear well! Our daughter was diagnosed at 2 years old and she is now 6.  For a while after she was diagnosed the only place we traveled was Disney World, as they are good at accommodating safely. When we first considered cruising we booked a Disney Cruise for this reason. But in researching Royal Caribbean I saw many reviews indicating they handle special diets well, so we switched to Oasis.

We have now been on 3 Royal Caribbean cruises and she has been able to eat safely on all of them! They cook her food in a separate area and avoid cross contamination. It’s great as at home we have to cook all meals, so it feels like a real vacation!

I did a trip report of our first cruise that describes our food experiences if you are interested:

It may be too long for you, as it’s quite lengthy and talks about way more than just food. There are several other reports on here that are more succinct and have very good info about traveling on RC with celiac and I would encourage you to search out and read those.

I would also encourage you to travel with her and take her Cruising! Celiac can feel very limiting and lonely at times. The more you are able to have her out there experiencing things like everyone else the better it’ll be for all of you!

Good luck and feel free to reach out with any specific questions!

    I read your whole review!!!

unfortunately my daughter keeps her in a glass bubble because she is so afraid she’ll be glutened. Last week she went to Girl Scout Camp and the counselors forgot to go get her GF snack when the rest of the group were doing s’mores! She was left out and felt awful. It’s hard being a 9 year old girl whose constantly left out.

Thank you for listening to me and sharing your story.
