  1. Great review, thanks! We will be on Oasis in early December and have also purchased the 5 night dining package. Did you have any trouble getting the times and locations you wanted? I was planning to skip Izumi anyway, but am surprised it isn't included. I didn't see anything about that either. We are planning to hit Giovanni's twice and will have to see which of the other two we prefer to go to a second time. My husband is a picky eater, so I'm not sure if he's going to like 150 CP, but I'm hoping he does, as that would be my choice (and sounds like it would be yours, too). I think we'll save Sabor for a lunch, as it's not really worth using a dining "credit" considering the low price.

Thanks again for your balanced, informative report!

  2. Well, St. Maarten reiterated this week that they plan to open up their port on Nov 11th. If they manage to pull that off, I'd imagine that the cruise lines will have to re-evaluate. I doubt PR will be ready by Dec 3rd, but they may be able to do just one replacement island (St. Kitts maybe) instead of re-doing the whole itinerary. I certainly hope so!!

  3. I'm hoping it's a mistake. When you go to the itinerary, and then go to book now, and then change date, it gives you the options: Nov 5, 19; Dec 3, 17; Jan 14, 28; Feb 11, 25; March 11, 25; April 8, 22.

November 5th has been legit changed. Maybe when they changed that one, it was linked to all of those future ones and was changed by mistake. There's no way they would have changed the itinerary that far out (April).

Yes, I'm thinking (and hoping for) the same thing. I can't believe they meant to change all those itineraries this far in advance. We'll just have to wait and see, but I agree with an earlier poster that I'd certainly prefer Labadee to Nassau.

  4. I am on that sailing, too.

They've changed all Oasis itineraries since the hurricanes hit. Itinerary changes caused by natural disasters don't get you any credits or anything for the change. The port of St. Maarten was claiming they'd open on Nov 11 so I'm surprised they've posted changes already. They have been telling people they'll give them official notice 30 days in advance, so that listing may be premature, but it is one of the itineraries they've been using. I was hoping we'd get the alternative of Labadee and St. Maarten, with St. Kitts or St. Croix. I'd like to spend some money in St. Maarten to help those poor people out! Bottom line, though, the ship's the destination for me. I'd be fine at sea for 7 days. Financially it is a bummer, though, because not only is the Western route traditionally cheaper, but the post-hurricane prices (after most of us have paid our final payment) are unbelievably low. Guess that's what we get for planning in advance!

  5. We are cruising on the Oasis in early December. I know my husband is really hoping to see a movie (or two) out at the pool screen (we did it a few years back on Princess and he loved it), and I've heard they do that occasionally. Can you tell me if that was the case during your cruise? Do you happen to know times and nights? I have all of our shows booked and the 5 night specialty dining, too, and would like to ensure that I make room for at least one outdoor movie if it's available. Thanks!!

  6. Thanks for this review. I am enjoying following along! We've still got nearly 6 months to go, but it's fun to see the day by day.

Can't wait to see what you think of 150 Central Park. My DH is a picky eater (no seafood, limited veggies), so as much as I'd love to try it, I'm a bit concerned about him not finding anything he wants to eat. Hope you have a great meal!

  7. We were on the same sailing. Qsine was being offered for $35 pp on the first night. We didn't want to go until Monday, so they checked the reservations for that night and offered us $36 pp for that night. The regular price is $45, I believe, but it appeared pretty easy to negotiate for a discount, and not only for night #1. Mustafa was set up by the buffet area entrance several times during the week, and he was offering us discounts any time we stopped to chat. (He remembered us from the cruise terminal!)

We really enjoyed it, too, and we paced ourselves pretty well, so it didn't feel terribly gluttonous. I would've considered going a second time, but the week just got away from us!

  8. Just got back a couple of days ago from the Summit. We weren't overly impressed with Ken Mills, but didn't find him annoying, either. I do not recall hearing any of the announcements referenced by others above. I only saw Ken on the stage at shows, and sometimes at the back of the room for Celebrity Life events hosted by Mark (Activities Manager) or Justin (Activities Host), both of whom were very entertaining and personable. Ken tended to have the same schtick every time he was onstage. He'd make everyone repeat their initial "hello" response louder, then comment on the size of the crowd (usually small) and then tell some lame joke about a supposedly "true story" interaction with passengers "today". All very predictable and not all that entertaining. However, we found Mark and Justin much more engaging and high-touch, and that was all we needed!

As an aside, since so many have mentioned Captain Leo, I just want to add my endorsement of Captain Kate. She is AMAZING! I have never seen a Captain who was so visible, engaged, and personable. From one on one time with all the kids on board (I saw so many interactions and it was obvious that the kids were so comfortable and connected with her), to showing up with little fanfare to events just to mingle with passengers, she always had a smile and kind word and made a real effort to make everyone feel welcomed. Loved her!

  9. We're doing Silver Moon in Barbados week after next! Was it as good as I hear it is? I'm not a fan of snorkeling, but I love the idea of just being in the beautiful Caribbean water on a cat. Now just crossing our fingers for good weather!

    Enjoy St. Thomas tomorrow!

  10. Yes. Buy a cheapo watch! My DH's charge did not keep up with the correct time. In fact it was days after we returned home before it ever corrected itself. I have the Flex that does not have the watch feature but we both ended up with watches because our iPhones were not even reliable at times. Enjoy your cruise.

    Thank you!!

  11. This might be a really dumb question, but here goes. In addition to tracking my steps with my Fitbit Charge, I use it as my one and only watch. I noticed that this watch, like my phone and other mobile devices, adjusted itself during daylight savings, so I assume the time is synced either via WiFi or Bluetooth. So....I keep hearing that one should have a watch on a cruise to keep track of "ship's time", whether in your cabin or out and about at at port. My experience to date leads me to believe that the watch part of my Fitbit might be as unreliable as I've heard phone clocks are when cruising.

Short answer, should I buy a cheap watch? ; )

  12. This is a fun review! And, yes, there is so little out there due to the "Bermuda season" just ending for the Summit. We'll be on the opposite week itinerary right after Thanksgiving, but I'm looking forward to hearing about your experiences on the ship and in the Caribbean in general. I love your writing style and I thank you for taking on this task for those of us starving for more details.

    Looking forward to the rest!
