  1. Our September sailing date is approaching fast and I have a question for anyone familiar with Reykjavik. We will be arriving early morning at KEF airport and once through customs etc. will be heading directly to the Skarfabakki Cruise Port, arriving possibly 8 or 8.30 am. Boarding starts at 1.00 pm.

Would anyone know if the cruise terminal building will be open early morning for people coming in from an overnight flight? We would be happy to sit inside, but don't fancy the idea of standing outside for a while waiting for the doors to open.

Thanks for any information you can give.

  2. We are newbies on Oceania (Riviera) and I see posts regarding making reservations in the specialty restaurants. Am I correct in assuming one doesn't need to make reservations for the main dining room, but for the specialty restaurants (those with no extra charges) it's a good idea or even necessary to make reservations?

Many thanks in advance for your advice.

  3. Thanks everyone for your comments. I think I'll have to delve a bit deeper to check out your suggestions. We will probably be checking into the hotel mid afternoon and won't need to sightsee etc. Just need a clean bed for the night and somewhere to grab something for supper.

We were planning on flying Porter Airlines from Toronto Island but may have to re-think that too if the tolls are added in from EWR. It can get quite pricey I guess.

Again thanks for all your help, it's really appreciated.

  4. We will be flying into EWR the day prior to our QM2 trip next May. First question.... is Carmel, Arecibo or Dial 7 the best way to get to a hotel in Brooklyn from EWR airport?

I've booked The Look Hotel - Red Hook on Seabring St. Is this in a decent area? I know it's a short cab ride to the Red Hook terminal, and it's one of the more reasonably priced. The other option is the Insignia Hotel on 61st St. A little further away, the hotel tells me approx. 30 minute drive to the cruise terminal.

I would really appreciate any input from those who know the Brooklyn area. Many thanks in advance.

  5. Wow, thanks Bob++ and sddsddean for such a quick response. Needless to say I had no idea of the location for ship and Matthew Museum. It's certainly something to think about. However, my husband is really eager to see the Matthew Museum as he's from Newfoundland and realized the significance of his heritage. We'll certainly endeavour to get there somehow.

    Thank yo both again.

  6. azcruise, I booked us through a TA, but was checking on the HAL website periodically for the last couple of weeks to see what was still available.

After I received the cabin number, I checked back again at availability and there were a fair number of ocean views and Vista suites still showing. I looked again yesterday (Sunday) and every category was closed. So it may be a full ship after all.

Good luck with the chance of an upsell. Think positive....!

  7. Just thought I'd post that we received our upgrade info today (yes, Saturday), for our 7 day Alaska cruise on the Volendam sailing on May 10th. We booked ocean view cat F guarantee, received upgrade to o/v cat C. It's in a good location and we are very happy.

Received two upsell offers for Vista Suites, first one was $519.00 CAD$, then this past week it was $349.00 CAD$. We figured we would stay with the ocean view and save a few dollars.

Good luck to all who are waiting for their cabin assignments.

  8. Oh such great posts. One thing I absolutely must have next time is the lamb in the Pinnacle. I usually have fish or chicken but there's so many good reports on it here.

One weird meal was grilled trout with spaghetti. Spaghetti?????? with trout???. I ordered the trout (it was delicious) and told them to hold the spaghetti and give me veggies instead.

Wiener Schnitzel was dreadful, no taste to it at all. Hubby sent his back.

All time favourite was the Creme Brulee for desert. My husband would just roll his eyes every night at dinner when I ordered it.

  9. Hi there. Does anyone have any info on cabin C641 on the Coral. According to the Princess site it's stated as being 234 sq. ft as opposed to 210 sq. ft. for other cabins close by and in the same category.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

  10. I seem to be having trouble expressing myself today but I am on a different NCL ship and I am getting that plus so much more on my cruise.

I am getting it that people are saying it has only been announced for Sky but they are giving it on Dawn and other NCL ships.

When I booked, I had no idea about it and was pleasantly surprised to hear all the benefits included for my booking.

When I return, surely will post comments as to my comparisons HAL suite experience to NCL suite experience. I am very appreciative to my friends who are so kind to be helping me get back to sea now as a solo.

What you received on your booking Sail was a "promo" that NCL had on at that time. Following is the announcement that was issued earlier today. From now on, on the Sky, you will receive free drinks - always. This is a one ship deal in the fleet as previously mentioned. It is not a promotion or temporary offer.

  11. This has probably been asked previously, but there are a lot of Q & A here, so my apologies for repeating....

Would the most reasonable mode of transport to get from Canada Place to YVR airport, be to take a cab at Canada Place to the shuttle train for the airport? With luggage I'm thinking it may be too difficult to walk to the station.

    Thanks for any advice/suggestions.
