  1. Hi all,

Does anyone have any reviews on DV1 cabin 8012 or any other cabin on Deck 8 (I have seen the comment for 8019 and the banging door)?

Hey, pukekolive, I'll be on the 8th deck at the end of March and I've heard some very positive reviews for the 8th floor. Perfect access to the top deck of the Explorers Lounge. You can check out every cabin category in pics taken by Cruise Critic employees. Just go to the category "Community" and click on "Member Reviews". The first page brings you to a pic with a big circle in it. In the circle it says to click here if you want to see many pics of the Star. They are all terrific and many are panoramic! I'm in a jr suite (probably just like you) and it has pics of the whole thing! Hope this helps. :)

  2. We will be first time cruisers. Is it advisable to bring local currency to start off your journey? I know there will be ATMs in port, but will we need cash for anything before that? What do people do? Thanks for all the guidance on this board!!

I always bring Euros with me from home along with US$. My bank doesn't charge me for this service. It may not be the best rate....but it sure is the most convenient way for me. Remember when all the banks and ATM's shut down in Greece? I like to be prepared!! lol When you get back home (if you have any Euros left over) some banks (like mine) will buy them back. They won't deal with Euro coins at all....but I like to save them for my next trip.

I've heard some people say they brought lot's of US $1's and 5's for tips.

Some of the restrooms in Europe charge you a small amount....which is another reason to get coins as soon as possible. I have seen them make change for a 5 Euro bill though.

What cruise will you be on? I've been to Europe but this will be my first ocean cruise.

  3. You're welcome, and I agree that Andy's pics are awesome! Ocean cruising is different from river cruising, but I love them both, and know you'll have a great cruise. I can't wait to sail on Viking Ocean again. If nothing else, I want to eat the split pea soup and cooked-before- you prawns that I missed! In case you didn't see another post of mine, you can find MORE pictures of the ship, the places we went on the Venice to Istanbul cruise, and some Viking documents like the daily papers here: http://www.pbase.com/roothy123/viking_star_

To go back to the Venice to Istanbul pictures, just hit "all galleries."

Roothy, you're so kind to offer all of this info and share all of your beautiful pics!! Thank you very much! I've spent a few hours on your album already and will be returning tomorrow for more info and gorgeous scenery. I really hope to run into you and your hubby on a Viking cruise some day. I'll be the one right behind you in line for the split pea soup! :p

  4. JJean, I can certainly understand why you posted and I'm sure I would be frustrated too! Almost every company's success hinges on their customer service level. I would suggest calling until you get a satisfactory answer because sometimes it's too easy for someone to ignore an email or letter and hope it just goes away.

Please post again and let us know if your concerns were ever resolved.

  5. Leo, thank you so much for the menus!!! I'm so excited about this cruise already and I won't be leaving until March 2016. This is my first ocean cruise and I'll be returning from it on this day (5-15) in exactly one year. Yes, I'm doing the 50 day extravaganza and I already know I'm going to love it!

Thanks so much to everyone posting pics and experiences....good and bad!
