  1. I've taken the "Behind the scenes" tour as well, and found it very informative.

What I heard on tour echoes what I've read here by poster 'chengkp75'.

Yes, we drink the water on board, never had a problem with it. Or on any ship.

I don't have an aversion to bottled water, just don't see the point of it. I know good water and have excellent well water where I live. (Nestle's draws upwards of a million litres of water per day just a few miles from my home. The water is that good).

To the poster that reported the brown water out of their taps - I would take a sample down to the front desk or ask someone to come up and see it. It sounds like an anomaly.

    Have a great day. :)

  2. Just returned! Had a really good time at Tranquility. Glad we chose it.

I have a few things I thing they need to change ASAP to stay open and awesome, but will return later with a full review :-)

I would love to read your review and your thoughts on what can change at Tranquility Bay. Glad you had a good time.

Ditto that. We have booked there in March.

  3. I am a huge supporter of the Cubes, and more so of the "Folders".

I've been using them for almost 10 years now. I bought some right after a business trip....

I was waiting for my suitcase to come down the luggage carousel, when to my horror I see a suitcase half open on it, clothes fling out of it and people staring and chuckling to themselves.

The horror part was realizing it was my stuff all over the belt.

So now, all my shirts are neatly folded and wrinkle free in folders, 'unders' in one cube, socks in another, bathing suits, shorts shoes - all in cubes. So now if my suitcase were to be opened or "explode" all that are seen are cubes and folders.

We have some Heys and also some Eagle Creek. Eagle Creek is the best, but Heys are cheaper.

My DW is slowly coming around to using this system.

And about the weight question- the folders and cubes weigh next to nothing.

You still need to invest in a small hand-held luggage scale and weight your bags before you leave the house (or ship)

    Hope this info helps. :)

  4. Just be thankful my mom (may she rest in piece) was not in the dining room to see you with your hat. ;)

When we were young, we were taught never to wear a hat to the table.

If we forgot to take it off, without warning she would come up behind and give a hard swat to the head.

(Hard enough for the hat to go flying off).

That usually helped with the memory problem. :p

So, being asked to remove it was right in my mind, regardless of type of hat, or whatever other attire the person might be wearing - a tux, or shorts and t-shirt.

  5. Hi Jane. :)

    I've been enjoying your review.

We also did a B2B but our first week co-incided with your second.

I think we met briefly at sailaway and the M & M.

We too enjoyed our time on the Jewel. Our activities were also limited - to 3 all-day Catamaran trips, including our favorite of all - the Champagne & Lobster trip in Antigua.

Otherwise, like you, we took it easy in all the other ports - browsing the shops, or hitting a beach.

I think we will try out your resort idea for St. Kitts. It sounds like a deal.

We got a kick out of Captain Dustin's daily reports (when we could hear them that is).

He sounds even younger than his age on the air, and is very soft-spoken.

Like you, we've opted not to do the NCC any more. We have to book open sailings, since we don't know when our vacation will be, and now the very low OBC just doesn't make it worth it.

  6. Besides a few cocktails and any other vices, what tricks do you use to help get quality sleep on a caribbean cruise?

If this is a serious question...

I try to book cabins mid-ship, and two decks below the pool deck

(to lessen noise from the deck chairs above) and also not right beside noisy elevators.

As another poster mentionned, I find the gentle rocking of the ship ensures a great sleep.

Oh, and don't forget to put the "Do not Disturb" on your door before retiring.

  7. Daaibooi beach is a public beach therefore no loungers, or rest room, at weekends I believe there is a small cafe open - best to go to Porto Marie - whic is the next beach along - there is a small entrance fee and lounge chair fee - but it is beautiful, toilets, showers, cafe,

30 -45 min from the port - make sure to agree a time with the taxi to pick you up

Ahh, okay! Thank you for that information. :)

  8. ...The only time you don't is if it's the Pick your Perk promo they give you when you book a new cruise while on a cruise. That will travel with you if you change ships OR dates. I've actually changed a cruise under this promo...Hope this helps.

This is what we were told also, and exactly why we booked another cruise while on the Silhouette recently.

  9. We use the hot tubs and pool every day. Especially if the ship has a Solarium, as the Silhouette we just got off did. If the hot tubs are being used by kids, we'll abstain. ;)

Our favorite time of day to use them is between sailaway (5 / 6 PM) and 7:30 PM when the solarium empties out with early diners.

This is our favorite time of the day since its quiet.

BTW - we've never gotten sick on a cruise or using a hot tub and we use them everywhere we go - ships, hotels, private homes, etc.

  10. Nice review. I read your first two parts also.

We were on the same cruise.

We were also sad to miss GC, but understand about the weather, and take these things in stride.

We felt the ship looked great! Staff were very attentive (if stretched at times) and food was terrific.

We ate in the Tuscan grille once, when we joined a bunch we met at the M&M. Awesome food and service. Agree with your over-the-top comment. We can't do that more than once per cruise or we'd never fit into our clothes. :p

We spent all our aboard time in the Solarium, and while it was busy, we usually managed to find some loungers.

My only complaint was that they didn't have enough adjustment up / down.

We took advantage of the "book-on-board" promotion, and booked the same cruise, same time of year, even the same cabin for next year. :D

...Formal night was that night, and it was lovely to see so many people looking so fine. Here's another time the A group annoyed me a bit: they chose to have a "70s party" on that night, so mingling among the tuxes and gowns were folks in goofy Afro wigs and loud bell-bottom/hippie outfits. It just seemed tacky to me. And I'm usually good humored! I swear!...

Yeah, I was flabergasted when I walked into the MDR and saw this.

To so blatantly disregard the suggested dress code for that evening was kind of nervy, I think.

Fortunately, they were all seated together on one side of the dining room, and we were on the opposite side.

My question was why didn't they dress in this manner a different night?

Oh well. After some strong medication (wine), I soon forgot about them. :p

  11. To the OP, sorry you had an issue with your drink package.

I wouldn't necessarily call it a DISASTER. ;) A disaster is where you board the ship, and order your first drink only to be told there is absolutely no alcohol on board because they ran out.

What you had was a mistake. And it happens.

It happens because this isn't a perfect world, and people are people and, make the odd mistake.

We were on the Silhouette last week, and yes we too had a couple of charges on our bill that shouldn't have been there. Happens every single cruise on every single line we've been on.

But Its not the end of the world. We go down to Guest Relations, (with a smile I might add), kindly ask them to remove the incorrect charges, say thank-you and thats it. We check our seapass bill twice during a cruise, and also check the final one at home. We have called from home when we note a last minute discrepancy and its always been corrected promptly.

As far as ordering multiple drinks at a time - you do have to space them out.

The bar tenders want to see about 5 - 10 minutes between drinks or they will think you are passing drinks on. It probably does happen during spring break time.

    Here is a question {I've never had a drink package before}

If I don't have a drink package, and I order a drink. They will ask for my seapass card, and bring back the drink with a chit that I sign for - which clearly states the drink charge on it.

If I have a drink package, what is the process? Do they bring back a chit showing no charge, or a chit showing a charge, or no chit at all?

With the drinks package there are no chits. They take your card, punch the info into their computer and give the card back.

The only time we received a receipt was in the specialty restaurant when we ordered wine that was over and above the "Premium" limit. We had two glasses each, @ $0.50 extra, and so received a bill for $2.00 at the end.

  12. I do not know the answer to this question, but I CAN tell you that it IS important to keep your card protected / shielded.

On our Silhouette cruise last week I had my card de-magnetized twice, and my DW had to get a new card once.

The first time I was told that I did it when I held my card against my iPad case.

    Okay, that I understood.

But the other times, I have no idea why.

If I had one of those card holders with RFID shielding, or prevented losing its mag stripe info, I would have used it. ;)

  13. We were just on Silhouette last week, doing a Western Itinerary, and never felt any motion - very stable.

Having a balcony cabin is actually best because at the onset of motion sickness, being able to look out at the horizon is important.

Like others have mentioned, getting a cabin mid-ship is key to minimize effects.

We take Sea-bands on every cruise, and even though we've yet to use them, we often loan them out to newbies for a few days. We're told they helped.

    Enjoy :)

  14. We're just off the Silhouette and there were only 3 days they ran out

of Limes. We're they really out? ...or was the bartender too busy (or too lazy)

    to get them?

Doesn't matter - we had our supply. We used 3 of ours. Gave another 5

away to others. It was no problem at all.

  15. For clarification: Is this called the Irie Mon Beach Break? Would you recommend this for families? Is this an all inclusive or just transportation? We are there 4/16 on FOS.

Yes. And Yes, absolutely. There were families there when we visited.

    It is all inclusive.

  16. It seems the prudent thing to do would be to turn the "wasted" lawn space into a Lime grove.

    You're welcome.

Why stop at just Limes? ;)

Probably enough room to grow a variety of fruits, veggies, and herbs. :D
