  1. It's more different features/design aspects of each class. The Radiance class, for instance, offers lots of glass (and thus lots of great ocean views) from public spaces throughout the ship and an enclosed Solarium. The Voyagers offer a Royal Promenade and an ice rink while the Freedoms featured that plus the cantilevered hot tubs and the Flowriders (which have since been added to the Voyagers). Oasis you get the Aquatheatre, the zipline, multiple pools, Central Park, the Boardwalk, and the experience on being on the biggest ship out there. The Sovereigns give you a view of what cruising was once like and a small ship experience. The Visions give you a smaller ship but also some of the venues/features you'd expect (a Solarium, for instance, which the Sovereigns lacked). Quantums originally gave you Dynamic Dining (now gone) , new venues that weren't on other ships, the Northstar, and the Seaplex, for instance.

So it's not so much "This class is for people who are more uptight" or what have you but more "What type of vacation do you want to take?"

This is AWESOME, exactly what I was looking for...thank you so VERY VERY MUCH

  2. A year makes a HUGE difference....and 5 years.....big changes. The entire cruise experience is nothing as it used to be. The "dress code" has gone by the wayside....folks don't want a "special" night. Everyone has cameras in hand all the time now....

And yes...ship size does play a part....ships with 6000 passengers...it's like a small city, instead of a "community" of folks. Times are changing.

    Thanks, I actually kind of

liked the less dressed up,. As, we are not the fancy people lol. We don't do fancy.

But, I am curious about the different classes, as everyone talks about going on certain ones.

  3. Probably a difference in each Captain's preference.

What ab difference in the classes, like is one for a different society of people, like quiet to ones that like to mingle and party etc?

Are is it that one was going to the Caribbean opposed to Alaska? I thought everyone on liberty was more laid back and easy going 😀

  4. My wife and I just completed our first cruise with out our children. We are from Colorado and chose this cruise for the price and not the ports of call. We are Loyal to Royal, but we haven't cruised in over two years. So it was time for a getaway.

This was our first time cruising out of Galveston.

Here are a few of our observations:

Passengers: No shocker here, there were many Texans onboard. With that said, they were some of the most down to earth, pleasant, and friendly people we have ever cruised with.

Food: Chops was very good, as usual. MDR was good. The Windjammer was subpar with scant choices and bland food for breakfast and lunch (we ate there twice for each)

    Staff: Exceptional

Entertainment: Liked Up in the Air and the Ice Show. We found Saturday Night Fever to be boring. Comedians were okay.

Cruise Director: Drew Divine was awful. We had him on a previous cruise and he hasn't gotten any better. The Cruise Director never makes or breaks our cruise, so no big deal.

Ports of Call: Roatan - Did an island tour. No need to go back. Costa Maya - Did the Mayan Ruins Tour and enjoyed the excursion very much. Cozumel - TS/Hurricane Nate caused us to miss this one. Better safe than sorry.

Ship: We've done this class before (Indy) ,but enjoyed the addition of the slides. Overall the ship was in pretty good condition. Some carpet wear and tear, some paint needing touch-up. Nothing major that we saw.

Embarkation/De-embarkation: We arrived at the terminal at 10:15am and were on the ship around 11:10. It would have been sooner, but they were having some computer issues. We did self carry off and arrived in the theater around 7:00am. There were many suitcases lined up already and we figured it would take awhile to get off the ship. They started to allow us off around 7:30 and we were through Customs by 8:00. It was so easy!

Overall, we had a great cruise and would definitely cruise out of Galveston again in the future.

We will gladly answer any questions.

    Mike and Valerie

Thank you for the nice compliment, I personally think us Texans are the friendliest...😀

I was on liberty a week before you and I agree about the food in the windjammer.

As far as embarkation and disembarkation we had absolutely no problems we did not do carry off. I personally did not like having to wait till after 10 to get off though. We did not use a porter so we were able to do customs and everything with no wait at all, I noticed a VERY long wait for the porters

  5. I have only sailed 2 times, once on Rhapsody 5 years ago to Alaska, and a couple of weeks ago on Liberty. They were like different as daylight and dark. I know how to look up what ships are in what class, but I can't find anything that explains the difference that I can understand.

On Rhapsody on formal night it was like a formal ball, with the caption coming out and dancing in the main atrium., and photographers taking pictures every where you turned. On liberty we didn't even see the caption all week, no dancing, and NO PICTURES. Not that I wanted to meet him, but it was soooo different, on formal nights people wee shopping and doing whatever they did all the other nights,

is it the difference in the ship classes? sizes of the ships? or the 5 years difference?

We liked them both, food was different also. So, as we are hoping to go again we are just curious about the different classes

  6. is it possible to buy water and check it in suitcase at port?

The water package prices are horrible.

I went sept 24th, put a luggage tag on it and gave it to the porter

Put 3 six packs of bottled cokes in a duffle bag again no problems

Everything made it to my room

  7. Since we aren't allowed to bring water on board, we have to buy a beverage package? How safe is the water?

On sept 24th I took a case of water, put a luggage tag taped on it and gave it to the porter, I put 3 six packs of bottled cokes in a duffel bag and sent it with the porter. We had 3 bottles of cokes in our carry on and some cookies from our drive, all got on with no problems

One lady had a case of 24 big red she carried on. No one that I saw or heard of got sent to the principle

  8. Dress suggestions are not enforced, you can wear whatever you want.

    HEY BOB,

I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT TO REACH YOU ALL DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I knew if anyone knew the answer it would be you!!!! ;)

Thank you so much, you have helped me so much with this trip, it is only our second one, first was 5 years ago, on Rhaposody going to Alaska and believe the dolled all up, we were really out of place, lol

anyways, my DH does not like to dress up at all, so I am like let me ask, and hopefully Bob will help me:D

also, my other question for you is....

we got a email saying that the NG was doing an inspection so we cant get on board before noon at the earliest,

BUT, we have to be on board by 3

how in the world do they get 3500 people on in 3 hours?

and how bad is it going to be, I am one the prepares for the worst and hopes for the best ;p

thank you so much for helping, I wish I was sailing with you sometime!!

  9. Also depending on the ship, they sometimes offer the card a few days in for 10 drinks (alcoholic) for $79 (plus 18% gratuity) if you wanted to go that route [emoji3]

Now thats a deal for me, do they make this announcement or how do they let you know

  10. If you look in the Bahamas section, the cheap way seems to be to book a room at the nearby Comfort Inn. It includes Atlantis passes for up to 4 people per room booked.

Many people check in, get their passes and check out.

For 4 people, it is definitely cheaper.

    Helllo,

I looked at comfort inn on choicehotels.com. and did not see anything about tickets to Atlantis

Can you let me know where you found it?? please?

  11. You will need either 2 connecting cabins or a big, pricey suite. Those are your only options. RCI's standard cabins only sleep 4, max.

No...a parent doesn't HAVE to sleep in each cabin..but you will need to book 2 cabins to show that there is an adult in each. Once onboard, you can put whoever you want in each cabin.

Once onboard, the kids can have 1 cabin, and the adult get the other....keeps all the kid's messes in one place! Some ships, Voyager and Freedom class, even have a balcony cabin that connects to an inside....that's a great option with young kids!

if the kids are teenagers yes kids in their own room, but these kids are all under 8, never would I put them in their own room unless it was adjoining..j/s
