I received my 2nd "reminder" to upgrade. I have a 2 bedroom owners suite and they are offering the Royal Suite starting at $200 per person. I am guessing they want my suite to maximize their profits? I don't want it because we really want the separate rooms but still have the suite benefits for everyone.

Thank you for the advice to everyone who actually gave advice! I have decided that my card will be enough for travel and I will buy extra travel medical insurance which isn't too expensive after all through GeoBlue.

Some insurers will sell you a $0 policy. That is, there is no coverage for missing your cruise (or other travel) or for having to leave early (trip interruption), but provides all the other coverage, such as medical and medical evacuation.
I do this, as I have already paid for the cruise, and not going would be heartbreaking, but not a financial disaster.
For my insurance (it is a major travel insurer, but through a special deal with my auto/home insurance company) is a whopping $32 per trip.
Thank you for the tip! I will try my home/auto insurance for the extra medical insurance the card doesn't cover!!

And that does require a judgment call only you can make.
Hmmm..... Isn't that what "I am trying to figure out" means? Why so mad?

I have an United explorer card and they do often some good benefits, but they do not offer any medical benefits. At my age, I think I'm starting to need to include this.
I wasn't really thinking medical but yes that isn't included. I would hate to be in a foreign county and find out I am not covered. I will need to check with my health insurer to see where I may have a lapse in coverage. Sounds like that is what others are doing as well.
Have actually used them? Just curious if you get the run around or if they are pretty responsive to claims.

A very small issue and short evac.
The bill for the evac for my mother from Halifax to DC was $29,000
Hospital bill was well north of $5000 for 4 days.
Wow thanks for the info. My health insurance covers ambulance and air transport but doesn't say if there are limitations. I will have to check with them.

The simple answer:
1) Research the actual terms and conditions for the insurance coverages provide for by the credit card.
2) Determine what the specific coverages (and amounts) you want for your travels.
3) Compare the two.
Since NO ONE knows what #2 is for you, how could anyone of us give you an accurate answer.
Do your homework. There is no one size fits all answer.
Not asking for your opinion, just asking for anyone who has experience. Big difference

Has anyone had experience using the travel protection benefits through United Explorer card? I am trying to figure out if I need additional insurance or if that is enough if I pay for my cruise with the card? Thank you for any advice!

We will be traveling in April on Brilliance of the Seas in a 2 bedroom owners suite. Our son is coming with us and it is his first cruise and my husband and I are Diamond. I never purchase the internet package because I love to detach. My son, however, about had a panic attack when he heard there isn't a way to connect while on the ship. What are my best options? I really don't want internet otherwise I will be tempted to check my work email etc but I told him I would find a way for him to connect to his friends etc.
Should I purchase one device before we go or do we get discounts onboard? If I get a discount for diamond can I transfer it to him (he is an adult).
We are on a 5 night cruise to Cayman and Cozumel. I know our phones will work in Mexico. Thanks!

Oh man, someone needs to delete this thread before anyone at my office reads it. I still pretend we are in the middle of the ocean with no access to the outside world.
Me too! Fortunately no one at work is on Cruise Critic!

I forgot to add that my booking was more than 6 months out which we are to receive an additional discount for

I just did a mock booking. For a Grand Suite the difference was $100.

Actually the bus ride sounds nice. I have never been to Maine so I would enjoy looking at the scenery and the area. We get back with plenty of time to explore the area.

Yes Adventure! So excited. I am from California so I am thinking the weather is similar to here right now. Foggy, cool. cold ocean. I just read on another group that the seas were a bit rough. I have my seasick patches I wear. Won't be the Caribbean lol!!Now should I even bring a swim suit? lol - much time by the pool?

Hi all,
Getting ready for our trip on June 1st to Canada and New England. How is the weather? Looks like it might be foggy and rainy? I have never been to this part of the country before, very excited to see but not sure what to pack. I plan on layers but not sure if fleece jacket or jean jacket will be warm enough? Are the seas ok? We booked a scenic cruise in Portland so I wonder if it might get cancelled due to small craft advisory.
Thanks for any help!

We booked the Brilliance for April 2019. We have 9656 and my friend has 1100. We are looking forward to it!

Hi,
Has anyone done this excursion? We are looking for different things to do and this looked interesting.

We are going to be in NYC for the first time in about 4 weeks as well. I bought tickets for Kinky Boots. How was it?

I am going around the same time. I am going to try to pack layers. We had the same issue in Alaska, one day cold the other day we are laying by the pool. I bought rain jackets that fit in a pouch and a water proof lightweight backpack (also fits in a pouch). So far the weather looks colder than normal.

Thanks for the replies! I guess I was thinking the museum was near the cemetery. Is the cemetery worth going to as well? It looks like a little more than a walk.

Hi,
We decided to do the HOHO bus in Halifax but we realized it doesn't take us to the Titanic Museum which is something we wanted to see. I could buy an excursion but we really just wanted to take our time and visit when we wanted to without a schedule. Does anyone know if cabs are available? I assume it would be easy to get one there but not sure about getting back to the ship.
Thanks!

I thought I read somewhere that they only sell tickets through the cruise lines. Of course, I can't find that now.

Booking a cruise for next year and I have the choice of two bedroom owners suites 9656 or 7672. Which one is better if there is any difference at all? Pros and cons?
Thank you for any help!
Who is disappointed with RCCL Brilliance?!

We were also on the April 29th sailing and I have no complaints other than losing money in the casino!
