  1. Does anyone know how strict MSC are with the drink packages? I’m sailing with my sister and parents on the Magnifica in May and we have 2 cabins booked. My sister and I want to buy the drinks package but MSC stae all passengers on the same booking must have the same package. As my parents are in their 80’s and on lots of meds they don’t (can’t ) drink And it’s seems unfair to expect them to buy a package they can’t use.

  2. If i had spent £5000 to sleep in a toilet i think it would be perfectly acceptable to ask for compensation . Nothing to do with a compensation culture.

Well said. The problem is too many people accept poor device or substandard facilities. It's not about compensation but if the standard doesn't match the offer then quite rightly the company should make some recompense. It would certainly spoil my holiday experience if the cabin had a foul smell.

  3. Trying to shame people out of reporting bad experiences with giant companies is insane.

  4. I've sailed several times with celebrity and with RCL. Firstly on loyalty I'm sure they are interchangeable but as the benefits aren't huge anyway unless you get to top tier not something I'd worry about.

The differences between lines are more important. IMO Celebrity are more luxurious and I find the food better however RCL win on entertainment. So depends on what you want from a cruise.

  5. Thanks all, unfortunately we don't have enough days holiday to add a land tour before or after and don't really like having a fully land based trip as we travel constantly for work living out of suitcases. I think we're going to book the 3 day excursion GNN recommended and whilst it might be pricey seems like a good doable option.

  6. I stayed at the Hilton in December, being fortunate enough to pay using Hilton points. It is a lovely hotel and in a great location for the shopping being right in the heart of the city. It's about a 15 minute reasonably easy walk to the opera house. I would stay there again but only if the price was right - it's not exceptional enough to warrant paying a significantly higher price than similar rated hotels.

  7. I'd definitely go for the Celebrity cruise round Asia. I did a similar itinerary a few years back, also my first cruise, and loved the experience. The culture is very different from UK with lots to see and do. Having done both Asia and the Caribbean I find Asia has more interesting ports of call while the Caribbean is more relaxing and I'm more likely to stay on board. We're booked on the next cruise after the one your looking at sailing from Hong Kong as Beijing and Nagasaki are both on my bucket list.

There's also the difference between the cruise lines to consider. Celebrity are more up market than Thomson and IMO are better quality.

Thomsons use older ships - even their newer ships are ex Royal Caribbean or similar. That said the Millennium is one of Celebrities older ships although it was refurbished last year.

Thomsons is very geared to the UK market with mostly British passengers similar to your Thomsons land based hotels. Celebrity is more geared to US passengers with a reasonable cross section of nationalities on board.

How this helps make your decision although I'm sure you will enjoy whichever one you choose.

  8. im booked on a cruise that will be docked for 2 nights at Tianjin and I really want to take a trip to see the terracotta soldiers. Celebrity are offering this but the cost is almost the same price as the cruise. Has anyone done this using an independent tour operator, also taking in the main sights of Bejing.
