  1. The new format for “Activities” for booked cruises on My Silversea is very cumbersome and not as informative as the old. It was much easier having the matrix of all days on the same page where you could see your entire trip in a glance and were able to just click on a given day to do bookings. You were also able to see which days had formal nights more easily.

Also, on the filters to view cruises, can we have  the “All Non Expedition Cruises” choice back? Currently you can only filter “All Expedition”. If you want to see “All Non Expedition” cruises  you have to select every ship.

  2. Just cancelled March 25 departure from Dubai. Not worth the risk. Agree, the new policy does nothing for people with concerns in our travel timeframe. Seems to be more focused on getting future bookings up by minimizing risk with more liberal cancellation policy.

We didn’t have a Catholic Priest on our Cloud Christmas in South Africa 2016.  The ecumenical service was done by the CD (and done quite well)

Im almost sure we didn’t have a priest for our Myanmar Christmas 2015 either but if we did it mustn’t have been overly Catholic or I would have remembered

Ive never seen a rabbi on board to do Hanukkah

so your RCCL theory is debunked

My theory is if you go on a Christmas cruise then you have to be prepared for some of your traditions/expectations to be different eg we don’t have goose/turkey or roast for lunch.

We do a seafood feast as do many Australians ....

I  guess my message is there are a lot of people with different cultures and beliefs on board a small ship and sometimes it just isn’t possible to cater to the diversity.

I have seen a rabbi on board the Shadow one year. He and his wife sailed through Vietnam with us then continued on to Australia to cover Hanukkah.

  4. Atlantide is open for breakfast on departure day (at least through our disembarking on 4/28). We usually have our last breakfast there unless we need to leave early to catch a plane. Last seating may be a little earlier than usual, probably 9am (check the Chronicle). Probably not important since you will probably need to vacate you cabin by 8 am anyway. You can bring your carryon luggage with you to the dining room.

Late in the cruise you will get a form from Reception regarding departure plans. One question will ask the time you want to disembark. They use this info to off load the luggage and divide it into groups by time. You will be given color coded tags that indicate departure time that they will use to divide and unload the luggage. If you indicate a time much earlier than your actual departure you bags will probably be unloaded and sit there for awhile leaving them more susceptible to being picked up by someone else in error.

Final departure time is usually based on local requirements but always seems to be around 10 am.

  5. We just got off the Muse 2 weeks ago and were able to do an open booking while on board. ($1000 per passenger deposit). Sometimes the other method works out to be less money up front but make sure you add any insurance you want up front because may be difficult to add after you do the original booking.

Did Vickie replace Fernando on the Whisper or are they both on board?  I read on another thread that she joined the Whisper.

Vickie is on vacation. She left the Muse in Sydney same day Whisper was in port. She stopped by the Whisper to say hi and then began her vacation.

  7. OH...You never heard back from them?

How long did it take for Blacklane to reply?

I did not book the reservation yet as I am not traveling until end of Oct. Just went to the website and entered date, time and start/end points and you immediately get options and prices. I am sure they will respond quickly to a request as they are a large well known company with a good reputation.

  8. With a decent internet connection wifi calling will work okay if your phone has that feature, i.e., IPhone 6 or 7. The $40 Verizon international plan does not cover service on the ship while at sea. You need to have a land connection from an authorized local wireless provider, not the ships system. I used to use Skye but have had trouble lately connecting unless the internet connection is prestine. So most time it will be difficult to establish a clean connection over the ship wifi with Skype.

  9. Anyone else using an Apple Watch or iPad or iPhone on this cruise? Weve had several official time chenges as we cross the Atlantic according to the ship, but my iOS devices think Im still in the Eastern Time Zone. Im sure that this will clear up instantly once we grt on land, but until this happens, does anyone have a solution?

On the IPad got to Settings, General, scroll down to Date & Time and set the time zone manually.

  10. BA has turned Business Class into coach so it would not surprise me if they are denying lounge access to discount fares which is what I is. Just another reason to totally avoid BA. The hard product as well as service is dismal. I am sure SS is using them because they do offer good deals on discounted Bus Cls fares and are usually the cheapest.

  11. Captain: Cataldo Destefano

    HD: Norman Rafelson

    RM: Jorge Caeiro

CD: Vick Van Tassel (Not sure if she is getting off in Montreal. Overheard her saying that her contract end in Montreal, but may be at end of cruise following yours that also ends in Montreal. Not sure who will be replacing her.)

Exec Chef: Edgar Van der Van.

Not sure if it is important to you but they have replaced the Internet system on the Whisper and it is currently experiencing "growing pains." Right now they have opened the Internet service free to everyone all the time. However, they have blocked some functionality that was there with the old system as they are now worried about capacity. You should be able to continue doing basic email and surfing simple websites. Anything that is graphics intense sometimes does not work, you cannot update or add APPs to Apple devices and Instagram is usually blocked or extremely slow to load. You also cannot download audio files for Podcasts. An IT person and two vendor techs are supposedly coming on board in Newfoundland when we arrive to work on the system. Don't know how much progress they will make prior to your boarding.

Let me know if you have any other questions. We disembark on 9/23 in Montreal.

  12. It depends on where you dock. If it is the old port you can walk to the Vaporetto and take that to St Marks Sq. There may also be a complementary water taxi but you might have to wait a long time for one so the Vaporetto is probably quicker.

If you dock in the new port there will probably be a complementary water taxi that will take you to St Marks Sq. It runs on a schedule (probably every 1/2 hr). It is a long walk from the ship to the dock. There is supposed to be a shuttle bus from the ship but on the day we were there it was no running and we needed to walk. If the water taxi is not provided then you will need to take an even longer walk to the People Mover and proceed as already described.

We did back-backs in Sept. Ended week 1 in Venice with an overnight and week 2 was rt Venice with an overnight. Week 1 we were in the new port and week 2 the old. The turnaround day in the new port there was no water taxi and needed to take the People Mover to get to town.

  13. You can use the hours allocated as you like during the entire trip. No daily allocation. On a back-back recently I had hours left over from week 1 that I was able to rollover and use week 2. When I finished all the week 1 time I then added the time allocation from week 2 to my account.

  14. Had the Gourmet Burger last night for dinner via Room Service. Absolutely awful although our Butler has another guest whose wife wants the recipe. Go figure. To each his own! Btw, asked one of the better waiters in MDR how many burgers he has served since introducing on the MDR menu. He told me less than 5 and most were for lunch not dinner. So either there market research was faulty or they did just dream up the concept and assumed people would like to order hamburgers for dinner in MDR.

  15. The new website lumps all the Veranda suites together so you cannot determine availability for mid ship location vs regular or see the price difference. You were able to see each category with prices broken out along with Available vs Waitlist on the old site. If mid ship is important to you, you should be able to see price and availability without having to call your TA or Silversea.
