  1. I’ve been using Backblaze for a year. Love it.  I haven’t really checked to see if you can link photos to other sites though, might be something to check into.  I mainly use it for my cloud backup, along with a portable drive and whatever media my original photos came on (SD cards and phone storage).

Easy to use, very reasonable pricing and I like that you can have a backup mailed to you if you lose all your photos.

  2. We ‘accidentally’ ended up with this tour on our cruise in 2014. It was the best mixup we could ever have!

We had booked Son of Man tours for our day in St Lucia. The day came and we got off the ship and could not find anyone who could help us. We asked and asked locals and eventually a guy told us to follow him and we went down to the docks and they called someone (I’m presuming Son of Man) but finally told us we were going with them.

Our boat driver was Mango and he was fantastic. We did stop and pick up 4 or 5 other couples at one of the beach resorts.

We toured the coast line and finally made it to the other side where we got on crappy vans to see the mud baths, the overlook and some waterfalls.

A larger boat picked us up later and we went to a private beach and had a great lunch. I can’t remember if we snorkeled at the Pitons before or after lunch.

Our return trip was on another small boat and they gave us drinks.

my 2 girls were the only kids on the excursion so they really looked after us.

it was a family run business at the time and everyone was related somehow.

i really enjoyed it and would book them again. It was bizarre to be picked up by a tour we had no knowledge of (I’m a rabid planner of those things) but have to say it was a great experience.

  3. We stayed at an AirBNB on January 20th, 2018. It was in the Parque area. His listing said YES POWER, YES WATER so we booked it, even though he did not respond to my question before I booked.

The Monday before we were to stay, I messaged him to ask about check in. He did not respond. I also called him twice before we flew in that week and he did not answer or return my phone message.

Once at the airport, we tried calling him multiple times. He did not answer or respond to my phone message. We still took a taxi to the place and of course, found it locked. I called several times while the taxi kindly waited around. Finally, he called me back.

His brother came down and let us in and explained things. He demonstrated the water worked. 30 minutes after he left, the water was not working. He had said to call or text for problems and of course I called and texted and no response.

We spent the night with no water or flushing toilet, as we didn't have the energy to try to find something new at that point. Our cruise was the next morning so we toughed it out.

It was in a good area for shops, restaurants and 2 blocks for the beach but I would not recommend AirBNB for San Juan right now. Several other cruisers had similar problems with their rentals also, that I talked to on our cruise.

The general attitude seemed to be they weren't making their rentals a priority right now. Understandable, but they shouldn't be renting them until they can attend to them.

  4. We went with Joy tours and it was fantastic! I wouldn't hesitate to book them again. I loved how they boated us to and from the port instead of inland travel.

I know it was in 2014, so not recent like you asked but I really enjoyed it

I wrote a blog about it with pictures at tallamazon1.blogspot.com

  5. We took a tour with Joy Tours and it was fantastic! They picked us up by boat at the port and boated us around to Soufries. I had heard the land trip is quite twisty and I didn't want to get sick.

Once we got to the other side, a van drove us up to the volcano and mud baths. Then we stopped at a waterfall.

Then we were taken back to the harbor and went to a beach for a private lunch.

Finally they took us to the Marine harbor to snorkel between the pitons.

And we were boated back to the port.

I would do it again! My kids were 12 and 9.

I did a trip report about it too at: tallamazon1.blogspot.com

  6. Do you have to buy a day pass at the beach club or can you just go to coconut beach? If you have to get a day pass at the club can you tell me what the cost of the day is currently?

    Thank you

We bought a day pass. I don't know if you can just go to the beach. I assumed it was a private beach owned by the resort but I could be wrong.

The pass was $50 per person. No discount for kids. Taxi ride was $4 per person each way.

  7. Thought I would update this with my experience since I got no response.

I did book with Son of Man for last week.

We arrived at the port at the appointed time and couldn't find anyone.

A security person stopped to help us and she asked some of the other locals and they didn't seem to know them. One guy, named Mango got on his phone and said he was calling him.

I don't know what exactly happened with it all but we ended up with Joy Cruises for the day. It was the same itinerary and we really liked Mango as our tour guide. Joy cruises was a family business and we enjoyed our day.

They picked up some people from a resort after they picked us up at the port.

So that's my experience with it. Wasn't what I had planned on but it worked out well and we plan on returning to St. Lucia for a week sometime in the near future.

  8. We went with Silver Moon last week. They took my credit card and charged 50% of the price and we paid cash the day of the trip.

Everything went smoothly and the excursion was awesome!!! It was the best excursion we have ever taken cruising! The staff and crew were outstanding.

  9. We went to Coconut Beach last week for the day. 2 adults, 2 kids (12 & 9).

We really enjoyed the day. It was quiet and uncrowded, the kind of place we like. The beach was really nice.

I can't compare the other resort but if you aren't looking for a wild party, CBR is a good choice.

The people staying at the resort were made up of couples, mostly older but some young ones. We enjoyed chatting with a few of them.

  10. Has anyone been in contact or done this tour lately? I seem to recall he was going out of business or something last year.

TA has 2 reviews from January 2014 on it now so maybe he's back in business?

The Land and Sea tour looks great! It almost looks like the boat is used for the majority of the trip, with a vehicle taking you in to the Volcano and Springs and then to lunch then back on the boat again.

I think he mostly caters to Resort vacationers but I've sent an inquiry to him anyway.
