  1. :confused:We are cruising in August in the mediteranian on the Oosterdam.

I booked a "4 bottle sommelier suite cellar no.1"wine pakkage.

However i could not see what wines are included or which wines we can order and were do we have to say what kind we like to have.

They will be deliverd in our stateroom when we arrive.

Or do we make the choise when we are on the ship?

My second question is: Are there still the tv's in the corner off the room or the flatscreens on the wall?

There is no clear information about that.

I know this are trivial things, but i like to be prepared and find out as much as i can before we cruise.

This is the pre-cruise fun i have.

    :D

  2. Of the ports you list, I am only 100% sure of HOHO buses in Naples. You can board them in Piazza Municipio, which is a couple of blocks from the port. But Naples has a lot of other great options -- you can take the ferry to Capri, for example. It's easily done. The ferries depart from the ferry port right next to where the cruise ships dock.

There may be HOHO buses in Palermo.

Of the other ports, I do not think HOHO buses are offered.

In Chania, there is usually a shuttle (free or small charge, depending on your cruise line's generaly policy) that takes you from the port into Chania. It is much too far to walk. There is also a local bus that does the same. Once in Chania, it is a small town, easily walkable.

Mykonos is almost the same deal if you are docked in one of the two berths: there is a shuttle bus but also a boat that shuttles you into the main part of the (small) town. It is also possible that you will tender, in which case the tender drops you off right in town. From there you can just walk around.

In Dubrovnik, I think larger ships dock in a port that is either a long walk or a shuttle ride into town. Once in town, you can just walk around. Many people enjoy walking the wall. Be forewarned that in Croatia the currency is the kuna -- shops may or may not accept euro and if you want to walk the wall you have to pay in kuna or by credit card.

Valletta has a beautiful sail-in, not to be missed. Once you dock, there is either a steep walk up to the level of the city or a quick elevator ride that drops you in some beautiful gardens. If you want to walk around, you should plan to have some kind of guide book. Most people enjoy the co-Cathedral and the Palace of the Grandmaster (of the Knights Templar). I also like the small but well-down archaeological museum.

Can't help with Gozo but knowing the size of it, and how few ships call there, I doubt there is a HOHO.

    Thanks, great info

  3. S

ee on my cruise countdown, only 90 days till our cruise. We will be on the Oosterdam.

Booked 2 excursions so far( Split and Katakalon)

Booked a spa for our sea-day.

Still struggling with Sarande, now i am thinking about renting a cabana for the day. Anyone experience with the cabana and can you tell me how it works?

The rest of the ports i think we do the exploring on our own and see what we do when we are there.

The ports we are visiting are Split, Dubrovnik, Katakalon, Chania, Mykonos, Valletta, Gozo, Palermo and Naples.

In wich ports do we have hop on hop off busses?

  4. We are booked on a cruise in the medditeranian in august on the Oosterdam.

    We stay in room 8104.

Anybody any comments , suggestions or foto's on this cabin.

On the balcony is there much wind when the ship is sailing in the evening and during the day is it to hot?

  5. We woud like to book on the Oosterdam a guarantee cabin.

I understand that the cruiseline will decide wich cabin you get?

The type of cabin we want is on 2 decks.

One deck is a balcony with plexiglas and one deck balcony with steel plate.

Is it possible to book a guarantee cabin but still decide on wich deck?

    Thx for any tips.

  6. First i want to say i am from the Netherlands. So my English may not Always be that good. Forgive me for that.

We went on the cruise "the viking sagas"with the ms. Rotterdam.

It was a good cruise for us because we could get on the ship in Rotterdam so no flying.

When we embarked the wind was very strong and we had the worst summerstorm in a century. That was our luck(:))

Embarkation was very good we arrived at the terminal at 10.30 and we could board the ship 11.30. So that was nice

Our cabin was 2509 that is at the front of the ship with portholes.

At 15.15 we had the drill and of course ther are Always some people who think that the drill is not for them so we had to wait very long.

    At 16.15 we sailed.

    The Ship.

The ship is not the youngest and that you can see,but it didn't bother us.

We had our dinner in the main dining room and that was for us perfect.

The lido restaurant we found it to crowded.

The mdr was very relaxing and the food was excellent.

The swimmingpool is not very big, but ther are enough beds and tables to sit on.

We loved the crows nest the best. It is at dek 9 in front off the ship and ther are some nice relax seats were we could read and have a nice drink at happy hour.

Later in the evening we went to the "mix"to enjoy a drink or two(maybe 3) before we went to bed.

At deck 3 you could get on deck to walk all around the ship.

    Flam

Our first stop was Flam and the sognefjord.

Flam itself is very small with some souvenirshops and a nice little museum about the flamsbana.

I must say we booked 3 excursions all with HAL.

In Flam we had the excursion with the flamsbana(The train up the mountain to Myrdal)

It was in the afternoon so in the morning we made a walk and we went to the shops and museum. For the excursion we had to wait a long time at the trainstation(30 Min.) The trainride was very nice(sit on the right for best views) We went up the mountain and stopped at a hotel for coffee and wafels.

On our way back we stopped at the waterfall with a nice suprice from the femal trolls. We we left Flam we had a scenic cruise through the fjord. That is so wonderfull.

    Ulvik

Our second stop was Ulvik. We had to disembark wih the tenders. We had an excursion To the mountainplateau. That was a trip for 5 hours but it was worth it. We stopped at a museum with a nice film and we could the wildlife of Norway. We went on to a big Dam and after that to a Hotel again for coffee and a very high waterfall.

Because the excursion was 5 hours we got a lunchbox from HAL.

In Ulvik itself is not much to see.

    Stavanger

In stavanger we booked a boattour to Pulpit rock in the afternoon.

In the morning we went for a wlk into Stavanger to do a little shopping. We were not so Lucky that morning because it rained the whole morning. We went back to the boat for a lunch in the lido buffet restauran.

When we went on the boattour the sun cam out. Th trip was very nice we came underneath pulpit rock and seriously i cannot think that people are standing there on the edge to mak a foto. After that we went to a large waterfall and we could take nice pictures. After that we went to a small islan for coffee and wafels with jam and sour cream(mmmmhh)

    Kristiansand

This day we had nothing planned and that was okay, because the weather was so good. We made a walk through the city and along the coastline. It was so nice with the sun shining and nice and warm. We sat in the city for a little lunch and enjoyed the sun. Later we went to the harbour to watch the little yachts and boats.

All in all it was a very nice cruise.

We had luck with the weather. That mkes it even better.

If anybody have questions about this cruise or the ship just ask and i will try to answer.

  7. I know that there were many questions about the dresscode.

We are on the Rotterdam next weekand i am still ask myself what can i wear in the mdr on casual nights?

    Jeans,t-shirt?

I know on formel nights we cannot wear jeans or T-shirts.

Than we will have diner in the lido.

  8. Thank you everybody for your good comments.

Today i booked the excursion to the mountain plateau in Ulvik and also the boattrip to pulpit rock in stavanger.

Now we have 3 excursions and i think that is enough.

I think you all are right. It is more expencive through HAL but when it worth the money it is an experience we will never forget.

Then it is good to spend a little more.

In Kristiansand i booked nothing we will see what we do there.

    Tips are still welcome.

Now we hope for good weather. We sail 25 juli-1 aug.

  9. Hello,

We go on the cruise to Norway. We booked in Flam the flamsbana tour.

Now we are thinking in Ulvik the tour to the mountain plateau by bus.

Anyone experience with this tour? Is it worth the money.

In Stavanger we would like to hike up to "Pulpit rock" but i think it takes to much time.

So now i thought the boat tour through the fjord under pulpit rock.

I know it is expencive thes ships tour but is it worth the money?
