  1. I will be sailing on NCL Breakaway in October. We are planning on renting a clamshell in Great Stirrup Cay. I read that you can reserve one at the Excursion desk on board, and to do it as soon as possible, as they sell out. I’m sure I read that they were $35 each. I’ll report back after my cruise.

  2. Hmm...the suspense. Just wish they would announce the show already. How far in advance did they announce that Harmony was getting Grease?

I was on the 7th July sailing on Independence of the Seas. During his morning show, the Cruise Director (Joff Eaton) hinted that Footloose may be the show on board Symphony.

He had been asked the question 'what broadway style shows are on all of the Royal Caribbean ships?' Joff listed them all and said that the show for Symphony had not been announced yet. He then said that he had his own suspicions on what it could be before breaking into song and singing 'Footloose'. This may mean nothing of course. Joff may have no idea what the show is, and is just guessing like the rest of us.

  3. We are also on this cruise and have started seriously looking at what we will do in Hamburg. There seem to be quite a few attractions, the Opera House and Miniature Wonderland very close in the City Center, but we are also wondering the best way to get there. It looks like there might be some buses (156/256?) that go for the Port to the City. Curious if you have found out anything more.

No we haven't found out anything. Hoping there will be a shuttle bus, or taxis, at the port.

  4. Look at the Newport area in New Jersey to stay. Courtyard by Marriott is right across from the Newport Shopping Centre (Cheesecake Factory is there!) and next door to a Path subway station. The PATH will take you straight into Manhattan for $2.75. The views from the waterfront across to Manhattan are stunning.

  5. Are there any van size taxi's that pick up at the Newark airport hotels to Cape Liberty that would hold 3 people plus luggage? I'm guessing that is something the hotel should be able to arrange for me? Private car service is coming in at around $100 + tip...rather not spend quite that much

I used Junior Luxury NYC and I'd highly recommend them.

  6. I am sailing on Independence of the Seas with 5 other people on 7th July 2017. We embark in Southampton.

We dock at Steinwerder Cruise Port, Hamburg, on 12th July 2017. We are in Port from 07:00 - 22:00. What is the easiest way to get from the Cruise Port to the centre of Hamburg? One of the people travelling with us cannot walk long distances.

  7. We boarded the Epic in Rome for a 7 night European cruise. We arrived at the cruise port at 11am. There were only about 20 people there waiting to embark. We were allowed straight into the ship and our cabin was ready. We were told that only 300 people had boarded our cruise in Rome that day.

Anyway, when we boarded, the ship was really quiet. Most people who embarked in Barcelona were away on an excursion. This meant my son could ride on the slides, with no queuing, and we could sit around the pool deck with a choice of lounger!!

The people who embark in Rome attend a separate muster drill. You will be given details when you embark.

The day you port in Barcelona, the majority of passengers are disembarking. Again, if you are not going on an excursion, the ship will be quiet all morning. The new passengers attend muster but you are not required to attend. If anyone questions you, just show them your sea pass card and they'll be happy.

    Hope this helps

  8. Hi Everyone,

This board was recommended by another CC member on our upcoming Canada/New England cruise but it's not until September 2017. We will be flying in 1 day prior and staying at a hotel close to the port (let me know what you recommend that's not too expensive - we'd like to stay under $150/night if at all possible). The next day, we'd like recommendations on a day trip to NYC to see the usual sites such as Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Madison Square Garden and any other things of interest. First time for DH in the big city - for me, it's been over 30 years! Let me know if you think maybe the hotel would have an all-day tour or would you recommend taking the train and if so, where would we catch it? Thanks all! Your info will be much appreciated! You can also send me an E-mail at cruiselover57@yahoo.com if that is more convenient.

    Thanks! Laurie

What about the Courtyard by Marriott, New Jersey Newport? It's right next to the Newport PATH station (all journeys are $2.75) and across from the Newport shopping mall. The views across to Manhattan from this area, along the waterfront, are stunning.

We stayed in the Hyatt Regency Jersey City, which is next to the Exchange Place PATH station. We loved it.

Do a search for the PATH station map and then look for hotels near to the stations. As mentioned previously, fly into Newark.

  9. The aft balconies will be larger but many people comment that in Epic aft cabins you feel the boat 'shudder' quite a lot. All the balcony cabins will be the same size. The ones at the start and end of the 'hump' will have slightly larger balconies as they are angled.

We sailed on Epic with two adults and a 10 year old. We went for a mini suite cabin. In a mini suite, the bathroom area is larger. You get either a double shower or a tub with a shower in it. We thought the room felt larger and more spacious. Have a look online and see if people have posted videos.

The Epic does have several balconies that are overlooked by those above them. It also has some hull balconies. Someone produced info on this. Here is the link -

Epic Hull Balcony Listing - Includes maps & features

You can also use a website called cruise deck plans and it has a feature where you can drag one deck on top of the other (just line up the elevators). That way you'll be able to see if your balcony is overlooked/exposed.

  10. vondofife: was your sofa bed in 12594 on the oasis by the balcony or by the bath? We have 8594 booked on the Oasis for the 3 where the sofa converts to a bed and I am trying to figure out the cabin configuration.

Is it true that all cabins on the Oasis & Allure that have a sofa-bed, the bed is near the closet and the sofa-bed is near the balcony?

The sofa bed was beside the balcony in 12594.

  11. Hi, I will be staying at a hotel near LaGuardia airport the night before departure from Cape Liberty Cruise Terminal. Has anyone on cruise critic done this before and would you have an estimate on cost to get from hotel in New York to Cape Liberty?

    Thanks so much!

We used Junior Luxury NYC as our private transfer company. Rated number 9 on Tripadvisor. I'd highly recommend them.

  12. Thank you.

So if the child orders from speciality menu it is $10 and I assume a child portion.

And if they order from children's menu it is free?

We are onboard Anthem at the moment and have now eaten at both Jamie's Italian and Chops Grille. Both restaurants did not charge us anything for our son as he ate from the children's menu. If he had ordered from the speciality restaurant menu then it would have cost $10.

  13. I am on Anthem at the moment with my 11 year old son.

I pre booked and paid for Wonderland, Chops Grill and Jamie's Italian in advance online. When I boarded the ship, I went to Wonderland and they refunded the price that I had paid online for the three restaurants and then charged me for the 3 speciality restaurant package. It showed on my on board account the following day. I kept the times that I had previously booked.

We were in Chops Grill last night. My son did not want to order from the adult menu and so they brought him a children's menu instead. As he ordered from the children's menu, he was not charged for eating in Chops. If he had ordered from the restaurant menu then he would have been charged $10.

We ate in Grande on the first night. It is an informal dress code on the first evening. No suit jackets required.

  14. I have sailed on both Oasis and Allure in early October - both Western Caribbean. Smooth sailings, lovely and very hot. We did have a couple of rain showers that lasted half an hour or so. The aqua theatre show was cancelled one evening, due to rain. I'd advise you book this early on in your cruise so, if it is cancelled, you have an opportunity to rebook.
