  1. Would love to see other collections of the same type.

I have an almost complete collection of every ship I've cruised. The first cruise we took was back in 1995 on the Commodore Cruise Line. I have never seen one of that ship. Not sure they were even made. I do have an aftermarket but not the same. No biggie.

These ships can only be purchased on-board. I do see them on E-Bay quite regularly if you miss getting one on the ship. Done that before and even had a fellow Cruise Critic person purchased one for myself that was sold out when I cruised (Grand Princess).

  2. We just got off the Freedom of The Seas and they did not have any models of the ship. They said that the company that makes them for Royal Caribbean has gone out of business and they are in the process of finding a new manufacturor. Any one else run into this problem????

WOW that is bad news.... We are going on the Voyager of the Seas in March and to make sure I got one I bought one on E-Bay 6 month ago just to ensure if the ship was out. That happen to me on the Grand Princess. Someone here on cruise critic bought me one and then mailed it to me several cruises later.

  3. I didn't know there were any 1as up there!!! Did you pick the room or magically get assigned both times?? That is a very interesting option, except I don't know if the wife would do seperate beds!!

No I picked it from the 1a's that were available. The first time I didn't know that it would have the two lowers and the upper. That cruise was just the daughter and myself so I didn't really care. So I booked again for my mom and sure enough it still had the two lowers as a queen. She did it as a single and loved it. I would book that room again..... Low cost great location...

  4. we were in 8365, which is closer to Mid-aft. but we didn't get any noise at all. We were right below the grand buffet. We even skipped the gala that night and didn't hear anything/???

Hey sixgun we have had 8357 two doors down twice. It is a 1a that has two lowers and a upper for a 1A price. That room location was perfect mid ship right under lido. Very convenient location.

  5. Makes a good case for going to the ship's store at your first opportunity to be assured of finding a model!

    Gordon

That is the first thing I do as soon as the store opens. sometimes they have a endless supply and then other times they may just have a few.

  6. I am often surprised how each line handles this. Some are picky and some really don't care short of backing up a beer truck...

Last week on Princess, we took on (between two couples) three bottles in checked luggage, case of beer in checked bag and carried on two bottles of wine. No issues, no big deal. Just to let everybody know before they flame me, our bar bill to the line was still signficant as we still bought wine in the restaurant, and all drinks around the pool.

It was nice to see a line use a little common sense.....

No big deal from me. I took a case of Bud Light plastic bottles with no problems. Bought more than that from them. It's just subsidizing..... is the way I see it.:D

  7.

Save up a little more before your cruise and be a real sport..... buy your beer on the ship and follow the rules. Doesn't quite sit exactly right to pick and choose which rules you like and will follow and which you ignore. Who gets to decide how many you (or I) can ignore?

Save for a week or two longer and be a gentleman (or lady). JMHO .

one other thing to put on the must bring/smuggle on board list that they are charging for is Green Tea Bags. If you want Green Tea the only place they had them was at the Coffee Bar(Carnival) for $4.00. each..... I wonder if we'll get those confiscated if there spotted in our bags? or do you think I should just pay $4 buck each for them too????

  8. I can do Miller Lite. With the plastic caps they should go right through in my check in bags, right.

I would say that is your best bet. I'm not a Miller Lite fan at all so I did the Bud and had no problems. I also ask my room steward how often does he get ask to ice down beer? He said he takes care of 16 rooms and at least one passenger every week sometimes more. also I think there is a size limit to what size of cooler you can carry on now. The one I bought was a soft side with a removable hard plastic shell on the inside(Wal-Mart). This worked out great because it did not leak.

A little funny story, I was on my way back from the room on a sea day(Beer Run) and this guy gets on the elevator carrying 4 cans of Bud Light, I said now you aren't one of those booze smugglers are you? He said hell ya, I brought on 3 18 packs. We had a good laugh.... Buy the way the 16oz Bud Lights onboard are $4.75 each or a bucket of four $19.

  9. Now we're getting somewhere. Didn't think about the plastic bottle idea, and I love the idea of bringing an extra suitcase with fridgepacks of coke.

What brand do you drink? The Bud Light Plastic bottles have an aluminum cap. Miller lite plastic bottles have a plastic cap. Also Carnival does not sale Bud Lite in Plastic bottle onboard so I would put them in a long neck zipper Koozie. They do sale others made by Bub in the same bottles so no one will know.

  10. Just a report on my own question now that we are back.... I took 24 16oz “PLASTIC” Bud light bottles in my checked bags. They arrived safely to our room by 1pm and my room steward kept them on ice all week in an ice chest I brought my wife’s Cape Code fixings in. I tipped him $15 bucks right off the bat. I ask him how often people do this and he said out of the 16 rooms he takes care of at least one cruiser per week, sometimes more. I also bought 5 or 6 buckets of beer on deck as well at $19.50 for 4 16oz aluminum bottles.

Oh yea, I wasn't trying to give you "CRAZIES" any ideas....

  11. have any of you smuggled any beer on with you? I saw they have Bud Lite in plastic 16 oz. bottles at wal-mart.

  12. I would not bring glass bottles on a cruise for two reasons; they are more subject to breakage in checked luggage and they are prohibited on deck where many people will be barefoot. That leaves plastic bottles, aluminum bottles and cans.

My main stash stop before a cruise is Spec's, since you also live here in the Houston area you probably know them.;) Spec's has the largest selection of canned and plastic bottled beer I know of. They also have a wide selection of rums and other hooch available in plastic bottles.

We took the four day weekend cruise to Cozumel last month. We just brought a six-pack of Shiner Bock in cans and two four-packs of Boddington's Pub Ale. The Boddington's is sold on the ship so we felt comfortable walking anywhere with them. Ofcourse we purchased our drinks in any venue we frequented in the evenings. The Shiner was for cocktail hour in our cabin before dinner.

We have sailed Carnival a dozen times and the Conquest twice. We have never gone to any great lengths to hide our beer or hooch. We just pack things very carefully in our checked luggage and we always tip the porters $2/bag. Everything we have ever packed has arrived at our cabin in good order, knock wood. We also pack a soft sided cooler in a suitcase. Once our luggage arrives in our cabin I show our steward where our stash is organized in one of the closets and ask him to keep our cooler full and iced each day. I always give him/her a nice tip upfront and have never had any problem beyond a grin.

Oh...the Boddington's has that nitrogen cartridge in it that makes the creamy foam. You do not want to drink it our of the can. Just ask any bartender on the Lido deck for a large plastic cup, it's perfect for pouring a Boddington's while sunning on deck. :D

No I would never consider glass bottles, I mentioned that it was between cans or plastic bottles. Plastic bottles it is...... along with my wifes cape code fixings......Just need to find some limes on the ship.
