Wow,  most of us have figured it out by now that rest of year or till late 2020 we won't be able to cruise!!  The CDC requests feedback from the public about resuming cruising and safety, AND the cruise lines needs to submit their protocols and guidelines before getting approval.  Also, COVID-19 won't be a  health emergency anymore.......... John Heald is the head of ITS ALL GOOD for October, but he needs to realize that it sends wrong message, and Carnival NEEDS to follow Princess' footsteps for canceling through Dec 15th.    By mid August they will cancel through at least mid December.

John Heald is doing his job, that's about all there is to what he says.  If he told people not to book, or to expect cancellations, then he'd be canceled by Carnival.

I don't see cruises in the US starting until well into 2021 and that's thanks to all the people who think masks & social distancing are unnecessary.

    No, see the title.
I posted about a BIG price drop at night.
Small price drops keep happening and don't bother me.

It must be a very large drop if it "more than covered" your OBC.

It sounds like you're better off leaving it alone.

Most likely if you booked at that low price the TA wouldn't have offered any OBC.  I'd consider it a wash.

None of us are qualified to make suggestions as to the safety of cruising. I'm interested to see how those who are actually qualified to make these decisions solve the problem of distancing on ships.

I don't think they'll be back before there's a vaccine or an effective treatment, so social distancing won't be necessary.  There's no way they can enforce masks or social distancing, which is why they won't be back any time soon

Carnival has made it clear the more bodies onboard the more spending. Extra cabins being squeezed in. Solo now paying double. The last thing imo they would do is limit how many to a quad cabin.

Remember they make their money from excursions and drinks and casino. Been moving more and more to casino cruises imo. The more bodies the better.

Imo limiting people in cabins is the opposite direction they would go

It's time for a change.  More bodies may mean more spending, but less bodies with people that have more money to spend also means more spending.

🎱 says  . . .  on an even larger scale, this 'may be' already happening, and with Carnival Corp definitely having a presence to see/hear what the avid consumer has to offer about the current challenging situation/s.

And that's why we should list our "hopes and dreams" here:

I wouldn't mind a price increase for a more upscale experience.  I would eliminate "more than 2 adults" per cabin and limit the size of families in cabins.

We rebooked for April 2021. Was feeling confident on that but as the days/weeks go on, that confidence is dropping.

I have Sept 2021 Early Saver booked; used FCC and OBC.  As it's a 6 day cruise I'm going to add on a 4 day cruise, but at fully refundable.

Not feeling too confident and don't want more FCC and OBC if everything gets canceled.

  6. Thanks for all the responses.

I agree that it isn't ideal to do the same ship but the dates work for us.  One sailing is 6 days and the other one 4 days.  Six days is "just too short" and 10 is "just right".  It's a spa cabin, so if the entertainment is redundant, I can always go to the spa!

Final payment for Leg 2 isn't until July 2021 (booking refundable) but I want to book now because the same cabin is available.

  7. I have a cruise booked for fall 2021 thru a TA.  I'm thinking of making a back-to-back, but directly thru Carnival, so it will actually be 2 separate cruises, but the same cabin.

If I book this, will I have to disembark and embark again, or can I stay on the ship?

Would this change if I booked the 2nd leg thru the TA?

If you mean better pricing by single occupancy friendly, that cuts across the grain of your reply.  I believe the occupancy control is inevitable in the early phases and I would agree that will impact pricing.  My guess on past performance would be that the vast majority of their cabins only had 2 adults, so I do think that is a big player.  50% increase sounds high to me based upon them being the value champion in the industry, but the old rule of supply and demand will surely take control.  Demand is still out there, it will be interesting to watch.

Perhaps a new target market?  More upscale with more upscale venues on board.  Not allowing "lots of people/cabin".

I believe the cruise lines knew long ago that they are in an untenable position (due to the virus, NOT the CDC) and meanwhile they have just been going through the pr motions to try to salvage any scrap of confidence in their future.

Absolutely.  And the "dreamers" keep the dream alive.

When cruising resumes, it will be a very different product than we have now and a more expensive product.  I'm predicting that the mass market cruises will be more like the luxury lines.

    1. Do you have any of this in writing? A saved e-mail with the refund request and any notification back that it was sent in and you didn't need to contact NCL?

If so, I would start by escalating this issue with the TA company, if it's a "major" company, they should do something to try and make this right. Second, if I got nowhere I would see if I could file a charge back through my CC and/or contact the better business bureau. I had a "major" travel company violate a contract with me and refuse to make it right. After contacting the BBB they did.

Agree with this advice about BBB.  Reputation is everything.

I don't know the rules for "everywhere" but in NYC you need to be a resident and the company needs to have an office here to file in small claims.

The FCC is worthless if the OP doesn't plan on cruising with NCL again.  TA should be offering "the value" in credit for any trip OP wants.

  11. Well I booked a cruise for December.

DH thinks it's ridiculous to fly to Miami for a cruise when we can walk to the dock in NY...but our winter choices out of NY are so limited...and it's cold the first 2 days and last 2 days.

I was telling DH about buffets all day long, quality entertainment and non-American passengers....and that we can combine this with some time in Florida before and/or after (hey...he doesn't own a business anymore...no time constraints)....so it all made sense to him!

BTW....this is MsTabbyKats....but I just realized that I signed in with a different account on the iPad
