Is the rear of deck 11 not also grills I just got to where the wellness studio ia and there is a gate.  I thought it was all Grills only from there?

    Has this been clarified?

On a future voyage, I have a balcony cabin on deck 11.  Will I or won't I be able to walk to and use the rear deck on my cabin's level?

I think to many pay restaurants. People will go if on a 7 nightish cruise but can see them empty most of the time on the world cruise. Will have to find out as my sister is boarding tomorrow.

For a new, non-grill, WC passenger, which QA restaurants will be included in the price?

I don't think it's that hard to find the passenger capacity...

QUEEN ANNE 2,996 pax, 113,000 grt  =  37.71 grt per pax density

QUEEN VICTORIA 2,061 pax, 90,000 grt =  43.66 grt per pax density

QUEEN MARY 2 2,691 pax, 148,528 grt =  55.19 grt per pax density

Them's the facts, so you judge if you prefer a higher density of passengers on your cruise ship or a lesser one.  Carnival bean counters know what they prefer....

Another interesting comparison for "Bean Counters":

    QUEEN ANNE - Passengers/Crew members =  37

    QUEEN VICTORIA - Passengers/Crew members = 21

    QUEEN MARY - Passengers/Crew members = 20

More and more people are reporting that daily turn down service is only offered "on request" or not offered at all.

I want to see as many of the hard working crew keep their jobs - that's why I always request turn down service.

If HAL reduces the staff but doesn't reduce the daily tipping charges and the wine service charges, does this mean each staff member will be getting more money?  I hope so.

I don’t believe this is correct. I’m showing another loss of 1.9 Billion Q1 and 2.07 Billion Q2 for a net loss of close to 4 Billion so far this year. Ccl has said they expect to add to debt Q322, Q422, and Q123

Total in the hole is 35 Billion and climbing daily.

It was $3.7 billion.  In error, I got my 6 month (Nov21-May22) figure from a Carnival Group 10-Q, not from a Carnival Corp. 10-Q.

  6. Having lost FCC money when Genting HK (Crystal Cruises owner) collapsed, I learned that most of the creditors' claims (e.g. lenders, bond holders, crews, ports, suppliers, TAs, etc.) have a priority position ahead of customer claims.  Reliable insurance and good credit card back up are very important.

Carnival had a Net Loss of $10.2 billion for fiscal year 2020 and $9.5 billion for fiscal year 2021, ending on Nov 30.  They had an additional Net Loss of $1.3 billion for the latest half year, ending on May 31.

By issuing $1 billion of new stock they will improve their liquidity and cash positions, but they also need to eliminate their recurring losses.

A Bomb Cyclone is creating a blizzard in Truro, Cape Cod, MA today.  Wind is blowing at 40mph, with gusts to 70mph.  Atlantic Ocean is raging.  Owners of a cottage on the bluff above the ocean have been trying to get Town’s permission to move it, for the second time.  Folks are wondering what will happen to it today.

Today's morning high tide.  Dark water is where normal high tide ends.  Additional water is storm surge due to Nor'easter.

Amazes me the prices haven't changed in several years.

For cruises longer than 31 days, is it still the case that you use 31 day price and then add on the price of the additional days (e.g., for a 35 day cruise for the Surf package it would be $259.99 plus $59.99 for a total of $319.98)?

I would have expected the daily charge for 4 extra days to be $8.39, not $15 (I.e. additional  charge of $33.56).

  9. Holland America has been offering a Grand South America & Antarctica voyage for many years, during the South Pole’s summer season.  Has the Volendam been unable to meet the IMO’s Polar Code  requirements effective as of Jan 1, 2022?  Their map implies that the 2023 cruise will not sail below the 60 degree circle, thus eliminating spectacular coastal views previously offered.

Assuming no unforeseen circumstances, yes, there is a Catholic priest on every cruise.
Mass is normally held in the morning on sea days, and 5:00 PM on port days. Also, normally the Saturday Mass is in the evening as a Sunday Vigil Mass.

There are lots of Catholic crew members, and onboard  priests also provide services for them.  That keeps them pretty busy.

Many of them have limited ecumenical experience, and  they seldom provide non-liturgical, non-denominational, services.

The availability of Catholic priests is diminishing, and that may eventually matter.

  11. NO, unless the cruise line makes unvaccinated people identifiable, or segregates them.

Israel has discovered that vaccines begin to  wane after 6 months.

Unless boosters are eventually available for everyone , "breakthrough" cases will become more frequent.  There is a concern that "long Covid" may occur on some breakthrough cases.

Feel free to start threads discussing any or all of the above !

Perhaps I can do so, eventually .  My initial booking on QM2 (i.e. 2022 World Cruise) has been cancelled.

I agree with exlondener.   I encountered the same type of "off-putting" comments now provided  to MamallamaAndDaddy but was ultimately enticed by the itinerary.

Cunard has many other things to recommend it. The dress code may be one, but there are lots of other things - the peacefulness, the calming decor, the lectures, (usually) the food, the quiet kindness and efficiency of the staff.  Go for it.

I’m glad you said this, because this CC board does not adequately cover all of the outstanding reasons why Cunard cruises are exceptional.   Overall, balanced enthusiasm is lacking.

There are inadequate personalized discussions of onboard venues, shore excursions, lectures, special events, performances, favorite crew members, etc.  There are too many extended discussions of the dress code and themes for gala evenings.

  14. Outer Cape Cod is entering its peak summer vacation season.  Most visitors come from five New England states having the highest percentages of fully vaccinated Americans, i.e., averaging over 60%.  Masks are not required, but are often seen in crowded areas.

Summer workers, such as food servers, bartenders, cleaners, store clerks, lifeguards, health care and public safety personnel, are in short supply and high demand.  Foreign student workers won’t be coming this year.

Today’s weather is marvelous, so I took another photo of Cape Cod Bay from Lookout Bluff, North Truro..   The Mayflower’s first landing occurred on the distant shoreline in 1620 (center of horizon).
