  2. We like ATD. We prefer the company of family and friends over strangers. We also like to eat on our schedule. Not sure if we would quit sailing on Carnival if ATD was cut but it would make us take a harder look at other cruise lines.

Problems Bed worn and uncomfortable. Cabin Steward could not replace the mattresses.

Comments Other than the mattresses, we were very happy with this cabin and location - perfect for cruising Alaska. The Lido deck over-hang kept the rain off us on the balcony. Inside the cabin we never heard any noise from the Lido deck. We did hear some Lido deck noise when on the balcony but it was not bothersome.

  4. Research is the best thing you can do in selecting which cruise is best for you and your family. We have our first Alaska cruise scheduled for May 2016 on Princess. We did about 6 months of research before deciding on which specific cruise and excursions to take. The many reviews and excellent advice here on CC made it easier. Friends who have been on an Alaska cruise are another excellent source. We now feel we have the best cruise for us. All the best.

  5. It's irrelevant if you, I, or anyone else on CC would never get bored on a cruise. It's only relevant if the OP's DH would. Cruising is a very niche way to travel. I know lots of people who have tried it and HATED it. Lots of them find it BORING! Others find it a very superficial way to experience new places. We all like/love cruising and the cruising experience but many do not.

You are correct - the OP's DH is what the point of this discussion. He may get bored on the at-sea days. Or he may find ways to happily occupy the time. It is up to them. My point in the original post was to state there are ways to have a good time on a cruise at-sea day without spending a lot of money or constantly eating. Anyways, I hope they have a great cruise.

  6. I love sea days. I too need to be doing something. While I may stop a few times during the day, I'll usually spend it walking around the ship and checking everything out. I may read for an hour max. While the DW is napping, I'll be topside with my binoculars or at the gym. I've never gotten bored on a cruise. Have a great cruise. :)

  7. We had and aft balcony a few years ago on the Carnival Freedom, deck 7. The cabin was directly centerline and airflow was non-existent when the ship was underway. In the sun it was unusable. We like to use our balconies alot. Therefore we will not book an aft cabin again. (I know, never say never! :))

  8. Based on my experience, here are my worst ports for the world and for the US.

    Alexandria, Egypt

    Naples, Italy

    Ankara, Turkey

    Los Angeles

    NYC

    Miami

Having said this, Alexandria is the only port where I would refuse to get of the ship (and I have).

  9. I had GBP several years ago. I don't eat any differently on cruise than I do at home or on business travel. By now you know the feelings of being full, eating too much and dumping. You also know what you can and cannot eat (milk and sugar for me). My advice, eat to your new norm.

As for alcohol, I do not have the over-sensitivity that others have expressed and can drink as I could before my surgery.

Good luck and enjoy your cruise.
