  1. Just got off the Zuiderdam. I had 5190. Unbelievable balcony. The room itself was a little smaller than other Neptune suites, more the size of the a Signature suite.

Here are some pics of the balcony and the interior as well as one of a glacier I got from the balcony.

These are a long walk from the Neptune lounge. But the great thing about being on decks 4 5 or 6 is it's easy to get to deck 3 and the exterior promenade. That way you can see the other side.

  2. I was debating the same.

I leave Vancouver tomorrow and picked the helicopter and glacier trek. We go to Glacier Bay and I have read some really good reviews of the glacier trek. If my itinerary didn't include glacier bay, I would be doing the Tracy arm excursion.

The thought of being able to hike on a glacier appealed I me.

  3. I'm leaving from Vancouver tomorrow.

Every time I looked at flights from Indy to either one, their wasn't much of a difference. Every city if different but don't assume flights are cheaper to Seattle. They may not be.

Southwest would have been cheaper but their flight times were horrible back to Indy. We would have have had to spend an extra night in Seattle which would have ate any savings. And I'm one that likes to get home after a cruise.

  4. Very excited.

Originally booked a VH guarantee. Got upgraded to VA. Then today got upsell offer to SA-SC for $200 ($100 pp but I am cruising solo so $200).

Ended up with SB5190 on Zuiderdam for next week in Alaska.

All for less than $1800 all in.

Now hopefully the Noro scare will be done.

I had an aft balcony in the Caribbean and never though I would get another. Very excited.

Pays to be off season. Especially since I don't mind the cooler weather.

  5. Why should the non drinkers pay more for a cabin than they do now so drinkers can get cheaper drinks?

My bar tab on my upcoming cruise will be $300 probably. On NCL, same amount of drinks it would probably be $400.

But why should HAL raise all cabin prices so they can lower drink prices or bring on unlimited amounts? You are punishing all and rewarding only a subset of those harmed.

The market forces have obviously dictated the pricing practices. Live with it.

  6. I'm looking at that as well. I read in a thread I can't seem to find that the trailhead is mostly uphill and it was suggested to take a taxi. Then downhill on way back to ship. Hopefully more will chime in.

  7. I booked the Zuiderdam last week for May 17. Booked a VH guarantee and got my room assignment yesterday. Got bumped up to a VA.

So if they stay consistent, you know guarantees will start being assigned at least by Monday if not sooner.

  8. Have a priceline reservation at the Hyatt on Burrard street. Will be coming from the airport.

I'm by myself and in good shape. So I don't mind a little walk.

Looking at google maps and the canada line map, looks like either I transfer at Granville, at the waterfront station or I get off at City Centre and walk. Looks like 3 or 4 tenths of a mile.

Is it an easy walk? Id really like to avoid transferring to a different line but also don't want to lug my luggage for longs ways. Google maps can make things look easier than they are.

    Comments?

  9. Why aren't you pleased with being on the "waist part" of the ship? If you are referring to the middle of the ship, most people prefer it because it has less motion than fore or aft. And you will notice that those cabins are the priciest.

Just my over analyzing self. I'm concerned being so close to the bump out well hinder my view aft. I have a tendency to over think these types of things.

I'm sure I will love it. And the price I got is great. Even paying solo fares, less than $1400 not counting taxes and fees.

  10. If you can do last minute, do that.

I booked a verandah on Holland America solo for 1580 counting taxes and fees. Booked lowest grade verandah and just got upgraded to highest cat. Cruise if Vancouver RT on May 17.

I was originally going to do NCL northbound in Sept for about 2800 for a verandah. Quite happy.

  11. I booked a VH guarantee for Vancouver RT on May 17.

Just got my assignment today and got VA 4129.

Pretty happy with that. Not terribly thrilled with being right next to the "waist" part of the ship but bigger balcony on deck 4 and glass under the railing instead of steel is great.

  12. This is a kind of convoluted way of getting your answer, but the information is spread across three posts and this one links to them.

Scroll to the bottom of post #351 and you will see the SBP wines by the glass links.

    http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=42154126

Short answer: Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Prosecco. There are more choices if you want to count dessert wines.

Thank you. Have a $50 drink card so probably will skip the SBP.

  13. In looking through the drink menu on Halfacts, I only saw one red and one white that would qualify for the Signature Drink package.

    Am I missing something?

Sailing solo in a couple of weeks and it seems kind of limiting.

    Thank you.

  14. I am thinking about booking last minute Alaskan cruise.

I was planning on the fall but the current specials for mid May are really good, especially for a single.

Anybody have a feel for when this promo will end?

I know it is capacity controlled. I just haven't been following the promo so I don't know when it started.

    Thank you.

  15. I second Merrell. They have plenty of hiking shoes that are good looking enough to use everyday. And depending on what you mean by walking shoes, they may not have proper tread on the sole.

And ditto to bringing a second pair of socks. I almost ruined a hiking trip in Colorado because on the first day my feet got very sweaty and ended up blistering. Ever since then I switch to dry socks half way through.

Finally whatever you plan on wearing I would do dry runs in before your trip. Making sure you are comfortable in them before hand will help.

  16. I am helping my company with a web redesign. It looks like they moved to a format that is more mobile friendly. I looked at it on my iPad and moving from landscape to portrait is seemless. The boxes resize themselves based on the mobile device you are using.

This is getting more common and lessens or eliminates the need to have a different mobile site.

  17. Who is charging you $50? Princess or your travel agent?

In the carriage contract it states there is a $50 fee for changes after final payment. But it is very vague. I did a CC search and found a post from 2009 indicating the $50 fee applies to name changes.

I booked direct. I was looking for some thoughts without calling Princess.

This forum has been helpful in the past so I thought I would give it a shot.

  18. All your questions can be answered by speaking to Princess or your TA

As can a lot of questions posted in this forum. Do you reply this way to all of them?

I read through the carriage contract and it does not address this specific situation.

But thanks for your reply. It was very helpful.

  19. Hello

I may end up taking a cruise currently scheduled for my wife and I by myself. I found that there is a $50 fee to change names on reservation. But what about going from 2 to 1 person?

I assume the $50 fee would still apply if after 100% refund date.

I also assume that the cost of the actual cruise would not decrease.

But I think that port fees are based on # of people so I would assume I could save that.

What about if I just showed up to check in by myself?

    Anybody have any insight?

  20. We are planning on taking the train from Anchorage to Whittier and doing the Prince William Sound boat tour. I've read very good reviews. It starts right at the port and from what I've read, you check your luggage at the train station in Anchorage and then it get's transferred directly to the cruise ship.

The PWS cruise lasts until just before 6PM more than enough time to get on board. The next two days on that itinerary are non port days so I'm not in a huge hurry to get on board.

This is the cruise we are taking:

    http://www.phillipscruises.com/experience.htm

They will let you book train with cruise ticket but be aware it is for R/T train travel. I checked and if you give them a call, they will book one way for you but the price is the same as booking directly with the railroad.
