  1. Hôtel Marie Rollet-No shuttle from this charming boutique hotel but they will order a cab for you. We found it to be an excellent location.  Everything is very walkable but there are alot of hills and staircases.  Bring comfy walking shoes!

  2. If you aren’t purchasing internet etc the messaging app is free to use.

    1) download app at home on your device in your own name

    2) once on board, put your phone in airplane mode, then connect to the ships wifi (this is free)

    3) the app does not provide notifications so you have to keep checking the app for any messages (it’s a pain…but it’s free)

    4) older phones you may have to keep reconnecting

    5) the app is glitchy for all things not just messages so some patience is needed.

    6) fingers crossed that they make some improvements to the app.

  3. We just booked a IX category, which gives us the $50 Shore Excursion credit..to replace our Sept 2020 cruise.

When I first looked there was only ONE cabin to choose from but since booking yesterday it is a guarantee cabin, which is fine by me.So sometimes the inventory is there.

Hoping as the many 700+ days go forward that I will be able to change it to a cabin offering Free at Sea promos, as long as the price is right!

  4. We just cancelled our Sept Canada/NE cruise (before final payment) and re-booked for a cruise in Apr 2022.  NCL is certainly all over the map is how to re-issue our CruiseNext certificate which expires Dec 2020....we have had 3-4 scenarios on how this would roll but eventually came to an understanding.

So we cancelled the original cruise yesterday, have another on hold till the CN gets credited back to our acct (they said 2 days...we'll see) and then apply it to the new cruise (fingers crossed)  They were not particularly helpful on extending the expiry date initially and told us we would have to put a deposit on the new cruise, which is ridiculous when they already have our deposit.

I assume the amout of re-scheduling is chaotic making all this even more confusing to deal with.

Anyways....waiting for the CN to pop back in so we can move on!  Only 700+ days till the next cruise....😢

  5. As final payment was coming up soon, we cancelled our Sept Gem cruise and rebooked the Jewel out of San Diego to Alaska (May 2022).  We are hoping by then, the world rights itself a little better to make travel safe & do-able.  We are sad to give up the Canada/NE cruise but I really don't see comfortable stress free sailings till after the 2020 winter season. If I'm wrong...I'll be thrilled!

  6. Just did a 4 day on the Jade and very disappointed. Never been on a cruise that did not serve prime rib at least once. Very tough menu for us. Kitchen very busy serving kosher meals wrapped in tin foil for many quests. Pool deck closed the 1st day.

Just home yesterday from the Jade. Tons of beef options on the menu, prime rib offered once in the MDR on our 10 day cruise. I have been on cruises where the staff had alot of kosher meals to prepare...requires some extra work on their part for sure.

  7. Every port is exactly what you make if it. Many people pick up resort passes in many of the other ports. To me HC was a little like that except I didn't have to pay to use a lounger, swim in the pool or enjoy their small animal exhibit. Like any other port....food, beverage and attractions are extra, so no surprise there either. It's not "authentic" Belize (other than the location) but I don't think there is any pretense that it is. The people that work there are "authentic" and we had several engaging conversations with many of them. Like I said, it is what you make of it.

We have done Belize City on several other cruises and so were ready for a change and new experiences. So, yes, I enjoyed Harvest Caye!

WYTinman...My HC beach pictures looked so much like yours I thought we must have been there on the same day...till I noticed our beach was flagged green!

I will agree that the pm was definitely busier but there were still a ton of chairs for our group of 4 to pick from on the beach...less so around the pool. Each ship will be different, I guess!

  8. My friend just asked the stewardess to bring these items to her as the plane was starting to descend and they did. She kept a copy of the "instructions" to show them as some were not familiar with this technique. Here is a website for more info but it is easily searched as well. They may be reluctant to provide this for a child vs an adult and policies may vary from airline to airline as well.

  9. I really enjoy reading your reviews. They always offer very insightful and practical views/advice, gorgeous photos...and I hope I can repay the favour. (I haven't read this whole review yet, so I apologize if this has already been mentioned.)

    Re: your dtr's ear pain

My friend had some ear issues on our last flight and got this advice from a helpful stewardess. It's called "hot cups" Basically, hot paper towels are inserted into styrofoam cups. On descent, hold the cups tightly against both ears. Looks funny, but it worked! Worth a try if you haven't already.

  10. If you are in NOLA for a day or 2 pre-cruise, be sure and buy the 24 hr day pass for the streetcar. Only $3 and saves the feet after all the wandering you will do. Also take the St Charles to the Garden District...ride it to the end, it turns around and comes back the same way. Get off where ever you like to explore a bit more on foot. All the hotels will give you maps etc to find your way around. Super easy!

  11. Maybe they were updating their site?

Today, for the very first time ever that I have ever noticed, NCL is listing fare prices in CAD. We have always only seen USD pricing.

Just a guess? Any other Canadians notice this?

  12. There are a few.

Postcards on the run is the one I just sent after our Las Vegas trip but have not evaluated yet. (I should have sent one to myself...might try that yet). The delivery seemed long but it was sent to a Canadian address, therefore "international" which adds time.

It's a free app for iPads, android phones etc.

Canada Post also does one so I'm thinking your US post may offer same? (you can even create your own stamp!) You can search custom postcards and it should pop up.

    Crazy technology huh?

  13. Pre-address the white peel-off labels to send postcards from different ports. This eliminates having to bring the address book for everyone on your list. Just peel off their address sticker, put it on the post card ....

    :)

Even easier...we have just started using an on-line post card service where you can send your own postcards using your own pictures. You add your message on back (like a regular postcard), actually sign it...send it. You need Internet access but a lot of the ports have free wifi. We have only recently used this (in USA) but are looking fwd to using it on our next cruise

No running around looking for postage, stamps, mailboxes etc.....which is sometimes challenging in some of the ports.

p.s. the postcard is actually mailed via snail mail to your recipient's address...you just order it on line!

  14. To help sort ship or port photographs.

Take a close up photo of the Cruise Compass which will show date, port etc. as soon as you receive it. This will nicely divide photos to help with future identification.

Or the day plates on the elevators floors! Not sure if they are on every ship but they were on the Radiance. Not once did I witness them changing them either. Too funny!

  15. Tim rules!! :D

Actually the whole staff that were present on our sailing on the Jewel seemed to have an excellent rapport with each other and the passengers. How could you NOT have fun after this greeting...

2096779500044007101uGlZSL_th.jpg....and we weren't even on the ship yet!

  16. Not a great photo but you get the idea! We just added the birthday girl's photo to a ready made sign. Princess put up balloons.

We also used those plastic peel & stick decorations (usually for windows) on the mirrors inside the room.

No tape, glue or fasteners required!
